Welcome & Collect of the day Celebrant: People: Celebrant:

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Holy Trintiy, you are neither monarch nor monologue but an eternal harmony of gift and response: through the Uncreated Word and the Spirit of Truth include us and all creation in your extravagant love through the Wisdom of God, who raises her voice to call us to life. Amen.

(Please be seated for the Lessons.)

The First Lesson Reader:

Proverbs 8:1-4,22-31

A reading from the book of Acts.

Does not wisdom call, and does not understanding raise her voice? On the heights, beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand; beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries out: "To you, O people, I call, and my cry is to all that live. The Lord created me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of long ago. Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water. Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth-- when he had not yet made earth and fields, or the world's first bits of soil. When he established the heavens, I was there, when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside him, like a master worker; and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always, rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the human race." Reader: People:

Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s People. Thanks be to God.

The psalm

Psalm 8

The refrain will be sung twice at the beginning, the first time by the cantor, the second with the congregation. Then everyone will speak the verses. REFRAIN

REFRAIN O Love, my Beloved, how powerful is your Name in all the earth! You, whose glory is sung in heaven by the angels and saints, Who with the innocence and spontaneity of a child, confound those who are mighty and proud, You comfort the unloving and fearful. When I look up at the heavens, at the work of Love’s creation, at the infinite variety of your plan, What is woman that You rejoice in her, and man that You do delight in him? REFRAIN You have made us in your image, You fill us with your Love; You have made us co-creators of the earth, guardians of the planet, to care for all your creatures, to tend the land, the sea, and the air we breathe; all that You have made, you have placed in our hands. O Love, my Beloved, how powerful is your Name in all the earth! REFRAIN From Psalms for Praying © 2007 Nan C. Merrill Reprinted with permission of the publisher Continuum International Publishing Group www.PsalmsForPraying.com

This summer, rather than use the standard NRSV scripture translations for our Psalms, we will be using Nan Merrill’s transliteration of the Psalms. The complete book of Psalms is titled Psalms for Praying: An Invitation to Wholeness.

The second Lesson Reader:

Romans 5:1-5

A reading from Romans.

Since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. Reader: People:

The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

The Gospel Officiant: People:

John 16:12-15 The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. Glory to you, Lord Christ.

Jesus said to the disciples, "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you." Officiant: People:

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ.

Affirmation of Faith

from Shore to Shore

(Please stand as you are able.) We believe in God, the creator of all life and beauty, who blesses our journey. We believe in Jesus Christ, who lived as a friend and savior to all he met as he traveled, and who ate and laughed, wept and celebrated with them in love. We believe in the Holy Spirit, who rides on the gentle breeze, who strengthens our bindings, and who offers hope eternal. We believe in the church, which stands open to all travelers, and bears witness to the everlasting love of God. Amen.

The Prayers of the People Intercessor: People:

Spirit of fire, inflame in us a passion for justice and equality: That we may know the cleansing of our prejudices and fears and proclaim your freedom boldly, caressing your Earth with humility.

Intercessor:

Spirit of compassion, infuse us with your longings for wholeness and happiness: That we may reach out to those who are hurting and disordered, enfolding one another with your love and tenderness.

People: Intercessor: People: Intercessor: People:

Spirit of wisdom, be within us in our journeying, gently guiding us along the right paths: That we may be led towards transformation and new beginnings in our world. Spirit of gentleness, touch us anew, releasing in us all that we are afraid of: That we may know your acceptance of us, and freely accept and embrace others.

Intercessor: People:

Spirit of power, hold us in our powerlessness: That we may know your strength and become a voice for the voiceless, healing for the wounded and empowerment for the weak.

Intercessor: People:

Spirit of judgement, be tender with us and show us your mercy: That we may humbly learn of you and not be afraid to be your prophets in the world.

Intercessor:

Spirit of comfort, draw near to us in all grief, confusion and pain; in your graciousness, bring hope, consolation and renewal: That many may look up and discover you in the midst.

People: Intercessor: People:

Spirit of dance, be our playfulness: That we may leap and laugh and enter your joy. Give us confidence in life and assurance in death.

Celebrant: Holy, sprightly Spirit of God, we delight at your dancing among us, filling the world with joyful possibility, revealing the music of the Creator. We rejoice at your daring spontaneity and find ourselves caught off guard by your unexpected communications. In a world that can seem predictable, you spark into being new possibilities. In a world that can seem drab, you weave your ever-changing patterns into the fabric of our beings. In a world that can be hostile, your meditating love builds a path from antagonism to co-operation. In a world that can appear purposeless, your vitality shouts out a mighty ‘Yes’ to life and declares that source of all living to be the One from whom you proceed, Creator and Lover of all. We offer our prayers in the name of Jesus, who promised your coming and reigns with you in the eternal fellowship of the Creator, one perfect Trinity of love. Amen. 7

The Confession of Sin & Absolution Celebrant:

Let us confess our sins to God.

(Silence may be kept.) Celebrant and People: God of all mercy, we confess that we have sinned against you, opposing your will in our lives. We have denied your goodness in each other, in ourselves, and in the world you have created. We repent of the evil that enslaves us, the evil we have done and the evil done on our behalf. Forgive, restore, and strengthen us through our Savior Jesus Christ, that we may abide in your love and serve only your will. Amen. Celebrant:

Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through the grace of Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life.

The Peace Celebrant: People:

The peace of the Risen Lord be always with you. And also with you.

Leon Bridges Enriching Our Worship Prayer 3

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Celebrant: All thanks and praise are yours at all times and in all places, our true and loving God; through Jesus Christ, your eternal Word, the Wisdom from on high by whom you created all things. You laid the foundations of the world and enclosed the sea when it burst out from the womb; you brought forth all creatures of the earth and gave breath to humankind. Wondrous are you, Holy One of Blessing, all you create is a sign of hope for our journey; and so as the morning stars sing your praises we join the heavenly beings and all creation as we shout with joy:

Sanctus

Holy, Holy, Holy

Grayson Warren Brown

Celebrant: Glory and honor are yours, Creator of all, your Word has never been silent; you called a people to yourself, as a light to the nations, you delivered them from bondage and led them to a land of promise. Of your grace, you gave Jesus to be human, to share our life, to proclaim the coming of your holy reign and give himself for us, a fragrant offering. Through Jesus Christ our Redeemer, you have freed us from sin, brought us into your life, reconciled us to you, and restored us to the glory you intend for us. We thank you that on the night before he died for us Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, gave it to his friends and said: “Take, eat, this is my Body, broken for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” After supper Jesus took the cup of wine, said the blessing, gave it to his friends and said: “Drink this, all of you: this cup is the new Covenant in my Blood, poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.” And so, remembering all that was done for us: the cross, the tomb, the resurrection and ascension, longing for Christ’s coming in glory, and presenting to you these gifts your earth has formed and human hands have made, we acclaim you, O Christ: Dying, you destroyed our death. Rising, you restored our life. Christ Jesus, come in glory! Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts of bread and wine that they may be to us the Body and Blood of your Christ. Grant that we, burning with your Spirit’s power, may be a people of hope, justice and love. Giver of Life, draw us together in the Body of Christ, and in the fullness of time gather us with all your people into the joy of our true eternal home. Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, we worship you our God and Creator in voices of unending praise. AMEN.

The Lord’s Prayer Celebrant:

(The New Zealand Prayer Book, from the Anglican Church in Aotearoa)

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say:

Eternal Spirit, Earth-maker, Pain-bearer, Life-giver, Source of all that is and that shall be, Father and Mother of us all, Loving God, in whom is heaven: The hallowing of your name echo through the universe! The way of your justice be followed by the peoples of the world! Your heavenly will be done by all created beings! Your commonwealth of peace and freedom sustain our hope and come on earth. With the bread we need for today, feed us. In the hurts we absorb from one another, forgive us. In times of temptation and testing, strengthen us. From trials too great to endure, spare us. From the grip of all that is evil, free us. For you reign in the glory of the power that is love, now and forever. Amen.

Toledo Pride: August 16-18, 2019 It’s time for us to start talking about how we might join and support our LGBTQ community at this year’s Toledo Pride Parade, Saturday, August 17th. We don’t have a ton of information from the event coordinators, but we want to begin getting us organized! At this point we are asking for two things from the entire membership. 1. Who will be willing and able to join us on Saturday, 8/17 to either march or volunteer for a stint at a Trinity booth at the end of the parade? 2. Consider the possibility of stepping into a leadership role this. We would like two individuals who are willing to pair and up and be co-chairs for this year's Trinity presence at Pride. Responsibilities would include:  Hold 2-3 preparation/rally meetings with anyone else interested in participating  Determine if we march only, try collaborating with other parishes, participate in Promenade Park Booth  Coordinate any logistics with Staff and resources needed to participate  Determine swag, t-shirts, banners, etc. that Staff can help order Sign up on our website’s homepage, trinitytoledo.org, to stay updated with participation information! Thank you as always for being God’s love out in the world, and especially for your willingness to be a bold expression of the values we hold dear as a community of faith- inclusive, progressive and creative. What we do at events like this has the potential of gifting someone else with a glimpse into a different reality. A reality where all are truly welcome and wanted and maybe even the courage to act on that possibility. What we do matters, not only for us on our individual journeys but out in the world as we radiate a love too big to be contained.

Trinity Sunday June 16 2019

Trinity Pages #LOVE IS THE WAY! Good morning and “welcome home” to Trinity! Whether you are new to our community or have found yourself coming back again and again, we want you to know you are both welcome and wanted here among us. For some, church is as comfortable and familiar as a good pair of jeans, or like coming back to your childhood home (if it is one filled with good memories). For others, church might be like visiting a foreign country where you experience unfamiliar language or customs. And then, sadly, for some church has become equated with feelings of hurt, rejection, or shame. We get all of that and believe that church can be different. We hold in real tension the beauty of our tradition with Jesus’ mandate to welcome all, no exceptions. And we get that if people are brave enough to walk through the doors of a big, Gothic-looking church in downtown Toledo, we’d better be serious about being progressive, inclusive and creative. We love our Episcopal tradition, but we love people from all walks of life even more. It is our hope and prayer that together we will navigate our way through each gathering, worship service, outreach activity, class, meal and social time with humility, grace and laughter. So thank you for being here today; for trusting the yearning that brought you through those ancient doors. May we all find our way into the heart of God’s love as we make room for each and all of us at the Table of love we set together week after week. And may you never forget you are loved,

Lisa
