MAPPING GREAT GROUP GETAWAYS This Winter 2017 edition of TRIPinfo’s Quarterly Digital Magazine is devoted to Mapping Great Group Getaways. In it you will find 45 destinations across the country that may be easier to get to than you think! That is where maps throughout this issue may assist! First, I must admit to be one of the original Google Maps fans. Others have preceded and followed that satellitebased mapping product introduced February 8, 2005. But Google has done an excellent implementation of zoom capability on roads—including pin location of many retail dining + shopping + other outlets. Their tilt-able street views are also great! Second, despite the neat technology available in the last dozen years, it would be naïve to dismiss widespread loyalty to non-digital maps—as first appeared ~25,000 B.C. Traditional maps are still very popular among users that want to understand the “big picture” of destination locations relative to major markets or state borders. The TRIPinfo USA Map is a good example. Finally, many recall these Quarterly Magazines launched as print in 1993--for 12 segments of group planners that all shared a need for planning reference. With it we created our own map library: 50 states, 80 destinations, the Southeast USA & USA. They are all printable as PDFs for your use. This issue maps Great Group Getaways that survived the test of time! Average Year Founded: 1838 Average Year Founded simply adds all the years together and divides by the number of Great Group Getaway destinations. In 1838, Martin Van Buren was USA President to only 26 states. The New Orleans Mint struck its first coinage. The Trail of Tears began, forcing removal of the Cherokee Native American tribe. Median Year Founded: 1849 Median Year Founded derives from sorting our 45 destinations into date founded order, and finding the one in the middle. There are 22 founded prior to or in 1849 in our roster, & 22 after. Mode of Year Founded: 1821 Mode of Year Founded is the date that appears most often in our roster of numbers. In each of 1790, 1847, & 1889 two Great Group Getaway destinations in our roster were founded. But in 1821 there were 3: Little Rock, AR + Sandy Springs, GA + Indianapolis, IN. We think you will find this a fun collection of Great Group Getaways! This issue is designed to be an ongoing, useful reference for group travel ideas. We hope our map collection—here and online at TRIPinfo.com—is helpful in discovering that many of these spots may be along your way! And don’t interesting, easy-to-access, detours & side trips make group travel memorable?

Maps Maps are essential for group leaders as they plan trips. First, of course, you establish a travel route, but the chosen route varies depending on the purpose of the trip. Are you planning on getting from point A to point B in the fastest, most efficient way? Or is your group tour looking to see the sights and explore the area? This issue featuring Maps fulfills both needs. We prioritize travel to 45 great group getaways via the most efficient routes on high capacity roads so that planners may find the most direct routes. But when it is time for the leisure

trip filled with memorable sightseeing and side trips, we included scenic byways and listed eight prominent area attractions and landmarks for each of the 45 destinations across the nation. To find out about other areas, please visit our online maps. Use these maps as a tool to plan itineraries, then print the pdf versions and share the maps and itineraries with members of your group. Have a great TRIP!
