CIVIC COMMONS AS CATALYST (CCC)
Reseacrh Position Supervisor- Alberto de Salvatierra September 2020-present
Location: Calgary Greater Downtown, AB Project Partners
Civic Commons Catalyst, is a one-year research project examining the role that underutilized public spatial assets- “the civic commons” can have in catalyzing economic development and impact investment in Canadian boomtowns in the age of climate change. The Catalyst is a collaborative ideation platform to address three core challenges in the study city of Calgary,AB: 1. The potential impacts of COVID-19 on the near and long term planning, design, construction, and operations on the built environment. 2. The exacerbated downturn in the oil and gas sector. 3. The significant pre-existing and exacerbated vacancy and underutilization of built-form assets in the downtown core. My work revolved around the mapping analysis of the Calgary Downtown area based on a number of factors like- Flood zones, Traffic intensity, watershed to name a few.

Completing the Green Circuit- Landscape Studio II
Academic : PostGrad (Year 2) Instructor : Enrica Dall’Ara January 2021
Location: Inglewood-Ramsay, Calgary, AB
This project focused on developing a Masterplan strategy for the Inglewood and Ramsay community in the light of upcoming Green LRT Line adjacent to the existing CPR route. Masterplan strategy for this area revolves around developing a green circuit by reactivating the connection between the brownfields, green corridors, and proposed bike routes. The Masterplan has been divided into 3 Phases, focus area being the Phase-1.
PHASE - 1
Redevelopment of the surrounding areas around proposed Green line station to create vibrant and active spaces for the travellers and community people

Rails to Trails - Regional Landscape system Studio
Academic : PostGrad (Year 2) Instructor : Kris Fox September 2020
Location: Southern Alberta
This Regional studio was about exploring a part of Southern Alberta, and bringing out the character of the place. To explore the prairie landscape of Southern Alberta, my project revolved around designing a directed treasure map to explore these hidden areas in the prairie. This project was divided into 3 phases highlighting the future scope and went through intensive mapping analysis in order to select the appropriate site for the interventions. After the site selection, my design approach was inclined towards desiging an experiential journey for traveller by incorporating design interventions at different scale to highlight landscape as a system.

#Reimagine Catwalks Project
Volunteer Work (Published in the policy proposal document for submission to the Cityof Calgary) June-August 2020
Location: Rundle Community, Calgary
What are Catwalks? Catwalks are the network of engineered pathways designed to connect children to schools, families to parks and people to retail spaces. Sustainable Calgary wanted to spread awareness among people about the significance of these hidden gems in the neighbourhood communities. After analysing various communities based on the accessibility to school, parks and public spaces; Rundle community was selected for the Catwalk intervention. This project was about to design a dream catwalk in the community catering to the major safety concerns and maintenance issues that arise due to heavy snowfall in winters.
SUDBURY 2050
Urban Design Competition May-August 2020
Location: Sudbury, Ontario
This competition was to create a new vision for the urban core of the City of Greater Sudbury. A 2050 vision that is far-reaching and one that will serve the city well in a rapidly changing environment. We tried to design with the existing constraints to shape the future of Sudbury downtown core. Our approach was focused on re-structuring and defining various transportation corridors in order to remove barriers that prevent people from accessing the downtown.

The project was to analyse a site located in Mayland Industrial Area which once used to be a complex of different industries and storage areas connected to the city via Railway network and is not in use anymore. This exercise was about understanding the ‘Spirit of the Place’ and how those ruins are adding a certain character to the site and what oppportunities and constraints does the site offer for future development.

MAKING CONNECTIONS
As per Landscape ecology, row of stepping stones (small patches) is intermediate in connectivity between a corridor and no corridor, hence intermediate in providing movement of species (humans/wildlife) between the patches

The project was to analyse a site located in Sunnyside with area around 2628 sqm and locate two building element with specific footprint, and design a series of public spaces around it. In order to do so it was important to consider : 1. The immediate and larger context of the site 2. Main view points 3. Current flow of people (pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles) 4. Sun exposure & shadows 5. Topography 6. Landscape elements
CAFE
PATIO TOWER
• Concept behind my design was to create a public plaza with clear line of sight between the buildings & the views. • By rotating the buildings at an 45 degree angle focus our vision towards the major views. • Taking inspiration from the existing river side plaza around Simmons building in East Village in SE part of Calgary I designed a seating module having trembling aspens at the centre of the module & staggered concrete blocks used as seating & placed in a way to enhance our views.
CHILDREN’S VILLAGE & ELDERLY HOME COMPLEX Academic : UnderGrad Thesis (Year 4) 2017
Location: Noida Sec-62, Delhi NCR, IN
Hundred thousands of children all over the world are growing up under dreadful conditions. Most of the time they are children that have lost one or even both of their parents and in some cases the children have been neglected, physically or psychologically , abused by their parents or their legal guardians. The purpose of the thesis is to create an environment where orphaned children are able to enjoy living conditions that are as close as possible to normal family lives. More or less same issue of deprived family care was noticed in the case of aged people. Children on maturing moved on in their life leaving behind the person who helped them achieve it.So both the orphaned and the aged people have an emotional hole to fill up in their lives. That’s why we came across this idea of designing a combined complex where both orphaned and aged people could live together and fulfill the emotional need in each other’s lives.
The most unique feature of SOS Village is the home like environment. The SOS Children’s Village work is based on 4 principles: - The Mother: Every child has a caring parent. - Brother & Sister: Every child has family ties & they grow up with a sense of responsibility & spirit of sharing. - A House : A place where child feels secure & has a sense of belonging. - The Village: A community that surrounds the child, so that every child has roots.

CHILDREN’S VILLAGE & ELDERLY HOME COMPLEX Academic : UnderGrad Thesis (Year 4) 2017
Location: Noida Sec-62, Delhi NCR, IN
Since, main objective of the thesis was to bridge the gap between the orphan kids and old retired people. The central plaza played an important role in the project. This plaza consists of an auditorium, open air theatre and a kindergarden which offers area of interest for both
indiviuals. In this way it will give them an opportunity to come on common grounds and interact more. Recreational areas like Indoor sports complex & outdoor skating ring was also designed.

RESTRUCTURING OF METRO STATION PRECINCTS Academic : UnderGrad Urban Design Project (Year 4) 2017
Location: Karol Bagh, New Delhi, IN
The site is located in Karol Bagh, New Delhi. To know about the existing scenario which is happening in this urbanisable area study is done at macro level for a total area of 2sqkm. Delhi is divided into 15 zones out of which 8 zones (A to H) are falling within urban area and the rest of the 6 zones(zone J to P except zone I) are in the urbanisable area of MPD 2021. The planning Zone-B with an area of 2304 Ha. includes Karol Bagh . The primary aim of this problem in Urban Design is about deconjesting the main stretch of Karol Bagh i.e. Ajmal Khan Road and making connections between people and places.

AJMAL KHAN ROAD
The concept behind planning this street is to pedestrianize the entire Ajmal Khan road. Due to the intense traffic and informal shops on the road, there is no space for the pedestrians to walk around freely. Therefore, all the informal shops are redesigned at the centre of the road in an orderly fashion and also blocking the vehicular movement for smooth circulation.
RESTRUCTURING OF METRO STATION PRECINCTS (DECK DESIGN)
Academic : UnderGrad Urban Design Project (Year 4) 2017
Location: Karol Bagh, New Delhi, IN
The primarily concept behind planning of this adjoing deck between old Rajendra Nagar and Karol Bagh is to deconjust the pedestrian footfall onthe main Pusa road, and to design a complex on the deck itself where people can sit, relax, shop, work and roam all at the same time away fromthe congestion below on the road. LEGEND: 1 : Pedestrian Entry/Exit 2 : Connecting bridge from metro station 3 : Connecting bridge b/w IAS & Ajmal Khan Deck 4 : Informal flea market 5 : Central Courtyard 6 : Formal Shops 7 : Library 8 : IAS Coaching Centre 9 : Open Sitting
YOUTH CENTRE
Academic : Competition (Year 3) 2016
Location: Dwarka Sector-11, New Delhi, IN
Youth is a period of transition from the dependence of childhood to adulthood’s independence and awareness of our interdependence as members of a community. We envision the Youth Centre as an institutional building for the future educational and learning venue as well as a dramatic space that embodies the integration of various recreation related functions. It was a group project to be done in team of 4 students. My contribution in this project was to develop the schematic diagrams, overall layout of the poster and 3D rendering.
