Nagel Know How: 7th Grade ProgressBook/Exploratory Session: The 7th Grade Schoology session is meant to introduce students to ProgressBook. The goals and content for the session are listed below. You may choose to introduce the content in a way that is most comfortable to you. GOALS By the end of the session students should be able to: 1) log into ProgressBook successfully 2) distinguish between uses of ProgressBook & Schoology 3) explain that the Internet is full of some great Web 2.0 tools but some sites have age restrictions & they are responsible for abiding by those restrictions CONTENT 1) What is the difference between Schoology & ProgressBook? (*Student knowledge of Schoology will differ depending on if they have already attended the Schoology session) Briefly review the following: Schoology is an online learning management system for students, parents, and teachers that is aimed to promote student engagement, communication, collaboration, and increased access to course materials. On Schoology you will find the following: • • •

Homework Assignments Electronic Dropbox for Homework Assignments Team Information & Events

Upcoming Classroom Events & Assignments Course files and handouts Classroom Discussions

ProgressBook is an online grade book where you will find the following: • • •

Course Averages Individual Assignment Grades Missing Assignments

• •

Course Schedules Report Card and Interim Grades

In summary, ProgressBook is used to check your grades on assignments, class averages, and view your Interims and Report Cards, whereas Schoology will be accessed to see team information and homework assignments, handouts, class discussions and other resources that pertain to individual classes. 2) Ask students to Log into ProgressBook: 1. Using any Web Browser, go to the Nagel Homepage: www.foresthills.edu/nagel 2. Locate and click on the ProgressBook link to the left under “Quick Links”. 3. Locate and click on the icon associated with the Forest Hills school district. 4. Click “Create an account”


5. Select “Student” under the account type & Click START

Enter the correct Student Information & Press Continue

7. Students should enter the following: - Username: firstnamelastname - Password: FH & Student ID & Birth Month & Birth Day (An example PW: FH1234560131) - Registration Key -Each student has a unique registration key. Look up parent and student registration keys here: http://powerup.foresthills.edu/PBCodes.aspx

8. Click Register 9.

Click “Log in to your new account”


10) Enter your username & password from Step 7. Click “Sign On”

11) The home screen will display. This is where students can view assignments and grades. (Homework will be posted on Schoology.) The menu to the left provides a link to additional information.

12) Have students click on “Schedule” on the menu to the left. Students should verify their information is correct (they see the correct schedule, etc.). Please report any problems by sending the names & student IDs of students to Trisha Underwood.
