WHO ARE THE WHITE TIGERS White Tiger Martial Arts was founded on the concept of Excellence through Discipline.

White Tigers, being a rare

breed of tigers, are known to be one of the strongest and fiercest fighters in the animal kingdom.

Along with their

strength come wisdom, courage, respect, honor, control, and perseverance. We adopt these characteristics to guide us to the true meaning of Martial Arts, which provides us with the necessary foundation for becoming a true Black Belt. Only through hard work and dedication, can we achieve our goal of Black Belt. As Black belts, we strive to better oneself, others, and the world around us. As White Tigers, we will face our fears, overcome our obstacles, and achieve our goals with a positive attitude and unwavering commitment.

Martial Arts Philosophy For Our Tae Kwon Do Parents Practice: How, What & Why – The idea behind this philosophy is that children need to be taught exactly how, what and when to practice, and why they’re doing it in the first place. Rating on a Scale of 1 to 10 Students who develop the habit of rating their performance on a scale from 1 to 10, with level 10 being the ultimate goal, increase their skills abilities faster than those who are unaware of the level at which they’re operating. Healthy Competition A healthy competition is what happens between two training partners and classmates when they try to out-do each other. It’s a healthy competition because both parties encourage each other in a positive way rather than a negative way. I Can Always Do Better Than I Think I Can This philosophy is basic, but a vital one for children to know. Easily proven using a high kick and target, this concept is a great one to have your child recite. What Is State Management? State Management is the ability to manage – in a positive way – one’s body, mind and emotions. To “manage one’s state” is to maintain control of oneself in times of pressure and stress. When teaching children to “manage their state,” we first get them to focus on and adjust their physiology (posture and breathing), then replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts (instead of “Why am I so slow?” to “How can I become faster?” from “What does he think I am, a dummy?” to “I wonder if this person is having a bad day?”). And finally, to operate from a rational place rather than an emotional place. When teaching children to deal with the emotional aspects of state management, the attitude to convey is that the stressful experience they’re going through isn’t punishment or a “drama,” but instead an important opportunity to learn something empowering. “Fall Seven Times, Stand Up Eight.” - Japanese Proverb To be a champion of the martial arts and life, you have to keep working towards your goals no matter what gets in your way. No matter how many times you fall, you always get up again and move forward. All winners stand up at least one more time than they have fallen.

29

Caring for your Dobok Part of the discipline of Tae Kwon Do is maintaining a clean dobok. Keeping your dobok clean displays a high degree of respect for yourself, our dojang and Tae Kwon Do. Below are directions to help you keep your dobok looking sharp. 100% cotton uniform Machine wash warm/cold rinse with like colors. Use detergent with color safe bleach additive Line-dry only. If you must use a dryer, don’t dry it all the way. Take it out while it is still damp and spread it out on a flat surface. Use starch when ironing to get that “crisp” look. Do not iron logo. Cotton/Polyester Blend Machine wash warm/cold rinse with like colors. Use detergent with color safe bleach additive. You can use a dryer on low heat. Your dobok must be cleaned and pressed for all tests.

30

Tying the Belt Hold the belt in the middle with the ends hanging evenly. Place the middle of the belt against your belly button. Wrap it around once and bring both ends back to your front. Bring the left end up to the middle. Overlap the right end up and then tuck it behind and under both layers (this step is important because if it comes undone it won’t fall to the floor). Pull both ends out, making sure they are still even. Tie a square knot by bringing the right end under and over the left. Pull both ends even and make sure the knot is in the middle. It is a matter of pride that neither end should hang lower than the other when finished.

If you can’t get it, don’t worry. Just like anything else in Tae Kwon Do it will get easier with practice.
