The International SeaKeepers Society Founders Celebration

On Wednesday, October 26th, Triton was proud to support The International SeaKeepers Society 2022 Founders celebration during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. This exclusive event united the yachting, science, and educational communities. Over the past 20 plus years SeaKeepers has worked to engage the yachting community in a continued partnership for the health of the world’s oceans. This event recognizes leadership and investment in SeaKeepers’ mission honoring leadership in marine conservation and acknowledging members of the DISCOVERY Yacht Fleet.

This year’s event was inspired by navigators and voyagers and honored the 2022 SeaKeeper of the Year, Nainoa Thompson. President of the Polynesian Voyaging Society, Nainoa is a pwo (master) navigator and is the first Native Hawaiian since the 14th Century to practice wayfinding (the art and science of ancient non-instrument navigation) for long distance ocean voyaging. The NextGen Awardee is Lehua Kamalu, Hokulea’s first female captain and navigator, and an emerging National Geographic Explorer. Explorer, navigator, cultural revivalist, educator, and storytelling: Nainoa Thompson has led the rediscovery and revival of the ancient Polynesian art of navigation. Through his voyaging, teaching, and engagement, he has opened a global, multi-generational dialogue on the importance of sustaining ocean resources

and maritime heritage. Nainoa has dedicated his life to exploring the ocean, maintaining the health of the planet, and ensuring that the ancient marine heritage and culture of Polynesians remain vibrant into the future.

The International SeaKeepers Society ® SeaKeepers is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization focusing on the health of the world’s oceans and climate. SeaKeepers works with the boating and yachting community to take advantage of their unique potential to further marine research and to raise awareness about the issues our oceans face. SeaKeepers acts as a global catalyst working with governments, scientists, institutions, and other marine organizations to further its mission and support sensible, achievable marine protection and restoration.
