LE DUC TRONG
Growing up in a small village between Vietnam and Laos, I was surrounded by a vibrant blend of cultures, landscapes, and traditions. These early experiences nurtured my curiosity about the deep connections people have with their surroundings and ignited a lifelong passion for culture, art, and history.
My journey into interior design was rooted in my countryside upbringing, where I first sought to understand the interplay between people, place, and heritage. Over time, I realized that interior design provided a unique lens to explore these themes, allowing me to merge aesthetics with cultural storytelling to create spaces that resonate with meaning and identity.
By presenting works over 5 years since i start my passionate in interior design, each project fuels my motivation to showcase Vietnam’s unique contemporary identity on the global stage. My ultimate vision is to design spaces that connect people to culture, history, and tradition while embracing modern innovation. Looking ahead, I am excited to continue evolving my design philosophy, expanding my horizons through advanced study and creative practice abroad.
Finally, I invite you to explore my portfolio and join me on this journey to craft spaces that are not just visually captivating but rich in cultural narratives, blending tradition with contemporary insights to create distinctive environments that resonate globally.

Hanoi Museum – The Flow of a Thousand Years
Individual Work Phd. Ho Nam
The capital city, in its fullest sense, symbolizes the nation, serving as a pivotal geographical hub that bridges internal and external realms. It brings global civilization to its people while showcasing the nation’s refined values to the world. Hanoi, a thousand-year-old capital, is a land steeped in history, rich in cultural identity, and deeply rooted in tradition. It encapsulates the essence of “geography, spirit, and talent,” representing Vietnam’s nature, culture, and people. This city pulsates with the vitality of the past, present, and future, embodying the convergence of life’s streams—a starting point for new journeys. However, these profound values face numerous challenges today. Modern issues such as environmental pollution, the erosion of national identity by external influences, and a disrupted value system threaten to tarnish Hanoi’s historical image as the “Land of Ascending Dragon.” This raises a critical question: where will our cultural identity stand amidst growing disruptions that dilute timeless values?

The project draws from an exploration of Hanoi’s nature, people, and culture, observing place-based elements and anthropological traits. Key areas of focus include:
Thousands of years of historical context.
The essence of culture, religion, and spirituality.
Modern challenges and transformative post-pandemic narratives.
Concepts of convergence, rebirth, and new beginnings.
The concept of flow symbolizes a guiding pathway, a cycle of convergence, renewal, and the inception of new beginnings. Therefore, the Hanoi Museum aligns its narrative with the natural and cultural historical flow of Hanoi, featuring thematic spaces:
1. Lobby Space
2. Ceremonial Hall (Overview)
3. Hanoi’s Natural Environment: This section explores Hanoi’s geography, climate, flora and fauna, hydrology, and territory.
4. The Thang Long Journey: A historical narrative tracing Hanoi’s transformation from its pre-Thang Long days to the modern era.
5. Hanoians: This topic delves into the characteristics, lifestyles, and culture of Hanoi’s people, from traditional costumes to the role of women and family life.
6. Hanoi from the Late 19th Century to the 21st Century: Key historical milestones, including the Nguyen Dynasty, the colonial era, wartime, and contemporary Hanoi (1986 onwards).
7. Hanoi – The Land of Craftsmanship: This segment highlights Hanoi’s iconic craft villages such as Bat Trang and Van Phuc.
Hanoi - the land of a hundred occupations
Target audience
Design goal
Inspired by these reflections, the Hanoi Museum design seeks to create a journey that vividly, intimately, and evocatively brings Hanoi’s millennia-old elements to life. With the theme “The Flow of a Thousand Years,” the museum conveys messages of a peaceful city, a cultural confluence, and an informational hub. It aims to leave a lasting impression on visitors—be it as a starting point for first-time arrivals to Hanoi or a “reset button” for those already a part of the city but yearning to grasp its soul more profoundly.
Hanoi Museum with the theme “Thousand-year flow”, has the purpose and meaning as an important corridor in connecting fragmented life elements and is the place to start “new beginnings”.
This restaurant design project at Thanh Lanh Resort in Tam Dao, Vinh Phuc Province, is deeply rooted in the tranquil yet majestic beauty of the surrounding natural landscape. Drawing from the cultural harmony between Eastern traditions and Western influences from Vietnam’s French colonial past, this space is designed to evoke both the elegance and the warmth of Vietnamese heritage.
Design Inspiration Inspired by the natural beauty of Tam Dao and its serene ambiance, I incorporated earthy tones and materials that reflect the local landscape. The design bridges Vietnamese aesthetics with a subtle nod to French colonial heritage, blending decorative elements, colors, and materials that convey both history and elegance.
Color Palette & Materials The color palette is carefully selected to embody both sophistication and warmth, with copper tones and a soft pink center, contrasted by ceiling greens and light blues on the walls. This color scheme reflects the lush, verdant nature of the region, while subtle pink and copper accents add warmth and create a welcoming environment. Materials like locally sourced wood, copper fixtures, and artisanal decorations further celebrate the essence of Vietnamese culture.

The open kitchen concept is a key feature, drawing customers’ attention and creating an engaging, lively atmosphere. This openness allows guests to feel connected to the culinary process, adding an element of excitement as they watch meals being crafted. Meanwhile, the central bar and service areas are designed to efficiently accommodate buffet settings, desserts, and utensils, ensuring a seamless dining experience.
Research focus a significant part of this project involved extensive research into the kitchen’s operational circulation, aiming to optimize the flow for chefs, streamline food imports, and improve ingredient handling. This meticulous planning ensures that the kitchen’s layout supports a smooth, efficient workflow, enhancing productivity and reducing downtime. My analysis extended to the movement of staff, ingredient storage, and service strategies, creating a foundation for a functional yet dynamic dining experience.

This thesis project presents the concept design for a Banyan Tree Resort located in Vinh Hy, Ninh Thuan, Vietnam, a breathtaking region where the lush landscape meets the ocean. The design reflects the harmonious balance of nature, local Cham ethnic heritage, and traditional Vietnamese architectural elements, embodying Banyan Tree’s mission of respecting both environment and culture.
“Banyan Tree is a resort brand with a service concept that distills and “packages” the beauty of tradition combined with the standards of global luxury tourism, giving visitors a sense of difference and novelty compared to what the market is familiar with.”
Existing Conditions
The architecture of the project is located on the pristine beach south of Vinh Hy, Ninh Chu, 36 km east of Phan Rang city and 68 km from Cam Ranh airport. The project is completely located in the complex of Nui Chua National Park, surrounded by the majestic natural landscape of giant rocky mountains, in front is a panoramic view of Vinh Hy Bay.
The resort exhibits an architectural form that interacts with nature, both integrating and contrasting. Integrating to highlight each other.
Sustainability and Cultural Preservation
This project reflects Banyan Tree’s dedication to sustainable luxury by using environmentally considerate materials and techniques. Emphasis is placed on locally sourced materials and design choices that minimize environmental impact. The architectural language and interior details are crafted to sustain the legacy of Cham culture, allowing guests to experience a unique, respectful blend of luxury and heritage. Each space in the resort exemplifies a thoughtful integration of past and present, providing a serene environment where history and luxury coexist.

Introduction to the Daybed Collection: The Tà-Oi
Our innovative daybed collection, titled The Tà-Oi, is a product of collaboration among the students of the DH18A1 class at the University of Industrial Fine Arts. This project embodies our commitment to sustainability and cultural heritage.
The Tà-Oi collection draws inspiration from the poem “ Lullaby for the Big Babies on Mother’s Back” by poet Nguyễn Khoa Điềm, which evokes the image of a Ta Oi mother carrying her child while working in the fields, surrounded by corn and sunlight. This imagery encapsulates warmth and tranquility, reflecting the essence of family love.

From Cornhusk to Modern Design
The Tà-Oi collection emphasizes sustainability by transforming agricultural waste—specifically cornhusk—into modern, aesthetically pleasing furniture. Through careful processing, this natural material is flattened and handcrafted into beautiful pieces that embody both functionality and artistic design. The use of cornhusk, combined with natural wood, creates a connection to the land and the traditional practices of the Ta Oi people.

Cultural Heritage and Craftsmanship
The Ta Oi people, residing in central Vietnam, have a rich cultural heritage. Their communities often feature a communal house, known as the “Nhà Rông,” which plays a central role in cultural events like the A Za Koonh Festival. The Ta Oi women are renowned for their craftsmanship in weaving Zèng fabrics, utilizing the colors of nature. This collection pays homage to their traditions while bringing them into contemporary design.

Project Introduction: “Vong” - A Kitchen Design Concept
In today’s rapidly evolving world, where globalization intertwines with the preservation of cultural identity, young designers face the critical challenge of honoring traditional values while embracing modernity. Our project, “Vọng,” reflects this balance, serving as a tribute to the rich cultural tapestry of Vietnam.
The name “Vọng” symbolizes the echoes of the past resonating in the present and reaching towards the future. This concept captures the essence of how traditional beauty can be reimagined in contemporary contexts, connecting generations and ensuring that these cultural narratives continue to thrive.
Colours and Material
Our design integrates elements inspired by the Hàng Trống paintings, utilizing a palette that includes six vibrant colors, harmoniously combined with contrasting tones of black and white. These colors reflect the diverse aspects of Vietnamese life, culture, and nature, encapsulating a rich visual narrative.
Location
Situated in Đống Đa, a district in Hanoi known for its blend of modernity and history, the kitchen embodies the warmth of family memories. It serves as a vibrant hub for creating lasting connections among family members, while also celebrating the beauty of Vietnamese culture.
Owner of the house
The kitchen design is specifically tailored for Trịnh Thu Trang, an ardent advocate of traditional Vietnamese art, particularly the Hàng Trống folk painting style. With her commitment to preserving these values, she has spent nine years researching and creating the book “Vietnamese colors from Hang Trong paintings,” which aims to digitize and celebrate the rich heritage of this ancient

The project is located in the Pu Luong nature reserve complex, home to the Thai and Muong ethnic groups. In Thai, Pu Luong means the highest peak of the village. This design draws its inspiration from the rich cultural tapestry of the local ethnic communities and the distinctive natural elements found only in this region, such as the unique “Dốc Fish” native to Pù Luông. Our project aims to create a serene retreat that harmonizes with the environment while celebrating the heritage of Pù Luông’s people.
Architecture - Landscape:
The architecture is designed to blend seamlessly with the landscape, with structures that mimic the natural contours of Pù Luông’s hills. The villa’s layout allows for ample natural light and ventilation, promoting sustainability and enhancing the guest experience. Inspired by the region’s terraced fields, our garden areas mimic the layered look of rice paddies, creating a connection between the resort and Pù Luông’s agricultural heritage.
Villa-Resort Design Inspired by Pù Luông’s Ethnic Heritage and Unique Ecosystem
This villa-resort project celebrates Pù Luông’s natural and cultural heritage by integrating the symbolic Dốc Fish, using authentic materials, and collaborating with local artisans. We believe this approach creates a unique, immersive experience that not only honors the region’s identity but also offers guests a sense of belonging within this extraordinary landscape.
Concept & Inspiration
Ethnic Influence:
The ethnic minorities in Pù Luông hold a deep connection with nature and a legacy of craftsmanship that includes unique patterns, materials, and architectural styles. Our concept seeks to honor this heritage by integrating traditional designs into a contemporary resort experience.
Drawing from their artistry, we have incorporated local motifs and craftsmanship, particularly in textiles and wood work, to create spaces that are both authentic and inviting.
Symbol of the “Doc Fish”:
The Dốc Fish, found exclusively in Pù Luông, serves as a symbolic and unifying element in our design. This fish, adapted to the area’s mountain streams, represents resilience and the beauty of Pù Luông’s ecosystem. We have embraced the form and symbolism of the Dốc Fish in both architectural elements (such as flowing rooflines and organic shapes) and interior accents. This motif will be subtly woven into wall textures, decorative panels, and cus tom artwork throughout the resort.

Situated within the Hanoi Museum, an architectural homage to Hanoi’s Old Quarter, the Hanoi Creative Activities Coordination Center represents a dynamic fusion of heritage and innovation. Our design transformation re-envisions this historically resonant exhibition building into a vibrant hub for the city’s creative community. This center stands as a meeting point for both designers and the public to engage with contemporary design deeply rooted in Vietnamese traditions.
Our mission was to revitalize the existing interior into a flexible, multi-functional space that adapts seamlessly between exhibition, discussion, and collaborative events. The center supports Hanoi’s “Creative City” designation by UNESCO, enhancing community engagement with displays that showcase Vietnamese traditional craft techniques reimagined in modern contexts. Modular display zones integrate both traditional materials and innovative design, creating immersive interior spaces that highlight the versatility of Vietnamese craftsmanship in today’s living environments.
