SPRING/SUMMER 2019
“A great photograph is great light, great composition, great atmosphere and a great story.” RON TIMEHIN
WELCOME TO TROPE
2019 marks our second full year as a publishing group, with six exciting titles coming for the spring/summer season and eight additional titles coming in the fall. The six titles include Trope Hong Kong, the third book in the Trope City Editions photography series, which follows the Chicago and London Editions. We are also thrilled to launch the Trope Emerging Photographers series, beginning with street photographer Ron Timehin, whose moody images of London are showcased in London Fog. This title is followed by Ope Odueyungbo’s edition Parallel Lines, the photographic journey of a London social influencer and photographer who has combined both commercial and personal work to amass nearly 100k followers on Instagram. The third installment in the series, Unfinished Stories, highlights pure street photography and essays reflecting “stolen moments” by another London photographer, Lucy Hamidzadeh. Our collection also includes Corkin’s Lodge: At the End of the Road, a 70-year oral and photographic journal of Phil & Frances Corkin, who spent their entire lives managing 3,600 acres of land in northern New Mexico. Personal interviews and over 80 archival photographs depict their lives in this remote region in the Southwest. The title also includes 90 new images throughout the seasons by photographer Tom Maday, taken over a 15-year period. For the avant garde photographer and enthusiast: Space Becomes You: A Mythology, by creative agency Someoddpilot, is a 288-page narrative art book replete with surreal intergalactic landscapes, psychedelic rituals, and curious beings. Odd and mesmerizing, a book that is hard to put down. We hope you enjoy these books; we certainly enjoyed bringing them to life. Our ongoing focus is to work with talented photographers and writers, as we continue in our belief that beautiful and thoughtful books have a place of relevance in the world today. SPRING/SUMMER TITLES
Space Becomes You: A Mythology Someoddpilot Space Becomes You: A Mythology is a 288-page narrative art book replete with surreal intergalactic landscapes, psychedelic rituals, and curious beings. Inspired by the quick and intense rise of political and cultural tribalism in the U.S., and Someoddpilot’s own practice of brand creation and worldbuilding, the studio dove into an examination of mythology by constructing their own myth. Space Becomes You is a story born out of the brands that we consume, the gods we create, and the shared languages that mediate these forces. It’s a psychedelic trip that examines the big questions myths are based on: “who are you?” and “why are you here?” Someoddpilot has been within the nucleus of Chicago’s art and design world for 20 years – designing album covers, band posters, sites and books; photographing musicians and making music videos; building digital platforms for indie record labels, editorial sites, venues and magazines; and branding some of the largest independent voices in our culture.

Showcasing old world tradition alongside the modernism of contemporary Hong Kong, the images here reveal distinctive and dramatic visions of one of the world’s most multi-faceted cities.

Corkin’s Lodge: At the End of the Road Sam Landers & Tom Maday “When you think hunting and fishing, think Corkin’s Lodge. Located 167 miles from Albuquerque and 104 miles north of Santa Fe. At the entrance to the famous Brazos Box, in one of the prettiest spots in New Mexico, surrounded by large Pine, Balsam, Spruce and Quaking Aspen. At an altitude of 7,900 feet, the noted Brazos River runs through the property and the fishing is always good. We are centrally located for all fishing in the Chama district, fishing in large or small streams can be had according to your taste, with twelve streams to pick from.” FROM A 1929 POSTCARD USED TO PROMOTE CORKIN’S LODGE
Owned and operated by Phil and Frances Corkin, the couple managed the nine-cabin hunting and fishing lodge that sits on 3,600 acres of land on the northern tip of New Mexico for over 60 years. Corkin’s Lodge: At the End of the Road is a tribute to Phil and Frances Corkin and the enduring legacy they’ve left for future generations. Their story is told through personal interviews and 86 archival photographs from the family collection, along with a visual record of what Corkin’s Lodge looks like today as seen by Tom Maday, who photographed the lodge over a 15-year period starting in 1998.

Lucy Hamidzadeh: Unfinished Stories Trope Emerging Photographers “I never know what I’m going to capture, it’s all spontaneous and that’s what I love the most. I often find myself walking the streets for hours and hours taking photos. Every image I capture is the result of a little flicker that happens to catch my eye in such an overwhelming way that it becomes impossible for me to simply ignore.” LUCY HAMIDZADEH
LUCY HAMIDZADEH:

PHOTOGRAPHER:
Unfinished Stories is an extensive collection of photographs that capture the daily lives of people: on the streets, in trains and at cafés, going through their day, often without much thought or notice, but captured in an indelible way by Lucy’s eye and camera. Their “unfinished stories” are the inspiration for her first solo book of words and pictures, making for a lasting glimpse at the fleeting moments she encounters on the streets of London.

Ron Timehin: London Fog Trope Emerging Photographers
“I prefer it when the skies are dramatic and mysterious. When I played the trumpet I used to play a lot of jazz. Jazz can be sad yet beautiful at the same time, and that feeling likes to come through when I shoot with the camera.” RON TIMEHIN
LONDON FOG SOFT COVER 144 PAGES SIZE: 7.5 X 11 INCHES 70+ PHOTOGRAPHS
Ron Timehin is a young photographer from Bromley, in the south side of London. He attended the University of Gloucestershire to study music and traveled the world as a young trumpeter, but could never remember all of the places he visited until he started shooting with his phone. That serendipitous moment launched him on Instagram and the reaction from his followers gave him the confidence to pursue a career in photography. The rigor, training and dedication required of a musician served Ron well in his development as a photographer. He doesn’t think twice about going to the Tower Bridge at 4am to capture the perfect light and moment. London Fog is a compilation of spectacular London images, foggy, moody and atmospheric, seen through Ron’s eyes and influenced by his music.
