A part of the Willson family-owned company, Bremerton Vintners Pty Ltd, Bremerton Wines & Bremerton Vineyards is located in the Langhorne Creek in South Australia. The history of the area goes back to the 1850s when Frank Potts, an English shipwright, planted grapes. Known for its cool climate,
Langhorne Creek is made up of rich soil that enables it to produce exceptionally high and consistent quality fruit.
In addition to the lovely climate, the fresh cool evening breezes from Lake Alexandrina give a microclimate of mild to warm summer days and cool evenings, perfect for the long ripening of the grapes producing intense and sought after cool climate flavours.
Bremerton Lodge property was bought in 1985 and the Bremerton wines evolved three years later with their first wine made with grapes bought from a neighbour. This continued over the next five years when the first batch was planted in 1991 and Shiraz was launched.
It was in the year 1993 that the decision to become commercial winemakers was made, following which the cellar door was opened in 1994 and two white wines and a third red was
launched. At present, the range varies up to 18 wines, a third of which are exclusive to the Cellar Door and Bremerton Wine Society.
Bremerton wines have sales across all major states of Australia while they export to the UK, Hong Kong, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Singapore, Brazil, the Netherlands, China, Philippines and Dubai.
Using a modern winery, their production has increased multifold. The efforts of the Willson sisters, Winemaker Rebecca Willson and Marketing Manager, Lucy Willson work while focussing on the family’s wine range maintaining high quality and individualistic wines.
They have collectively given Bremerton a stronghold in the highly competitive Australian wine market with Rebecca’s first label at age 25 — the 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon that went on to
win a trophy and was also rated the third-best Cabernet in Australia by Winestate magazine.
Ever since then the sisters have taken Bremerton Wines to be a well-known brand
from South Australia’s Langhorne Creek wine region.
