The History of Wolf Blass
Born in a town in East Germany in 1934, Wolfgang Franz Otto Blass kickstarted his career in winemaking as an apprentice. It was when his parents made him choose between his regular school and winemaking apprenticeship of 3 years that he decided to choose the latter. After completing his study of Champagne techniques in France in 1957, Otto Blass became the first ever youngest person to have graduated with a Master's degree in Oenology from Veitshöchheim Würzburg. Afterwards, he went to England to learn the art of blending in 1959 and finally, the year 1961 saw him moving to the famous wine region of Barossa Valley. Starting from scratch, he laid the foundation of Wolf Blass Wines under a tin shed in 1966. And, the rest, as we all know, is history.
