Unlike a privately-owned business, a cooperative is owned by its members. Because of its cooperative structure, Agtegra’s member-owners can influence the governance of the cooperative by electing the 15 farmers or ranchers who serve on the board of directors. Additionally, up to two nonvoting advisory directors, appointed by the board, serve on the board.

The board is backed by a delegate council, which consists of a minimum of 60 farmers or ranchers who are also elected to their positions by members of the cooperative. Delegates serve as a liaison between the members and the board and provide the board with valuable insight on how decisions could impact their farms or ranches.

“I thoroughly enjoy being a part of the governance process for our memberowners,” said Osterday. “The things you learn and the people you meet through this process are the most valuable parts I cherish as being a director.”

Growing up on a small farm in Iowa, Klootwyk’s agricultural roots run deep.

“I joined Agtegra because of the opportunity to be closer to the U.S. farmer and closer to how I grew up, working with people who remind me a lot of my dad, my uncle, and my grandpa,” said Klootwyk. “Once here, I fell in love with this company, and I’m so proud of the people that work here and what we do every day.”

Klootwyk is excited for what the future holds for the cooperative.

“When I think about Agtegra and the future, I’m really excited about the prospects for growth,” said Klootwyk. “We’ve got so much untapped potential in this organization with so many opportunities to serve customers in new ways, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
