One cloudy Sunday afternoon my friend and I decided that we were in the mood to go on a shopping trip. Not wanting to go to an undoubtedly busy and crowded mall situation, we stumbled upon a market on Instagram that looked small but impactful.

It was called The Front Market. Not knowing what exactly to expect, we ventured over. Upon arrival (locations vary by date), there is an information booth at the entrance with friendly volunteers. Come to find out The Front Market is an Austin-based marketplace focused on local small businesses showcasing women and LGBTQ+ creatives, designers, artists, etc. from the Texas South.

They are open every Spring and Fall with over 300 vendors every year. All markets are outdoors only and dog-friendly. Being that it is Winter now, we were actually attending the Holiday Series which was four weekends from the end of November to the middle of December.

All of the information for any upcoming marketplace dates and locations are available on their website:www.thefrontmarket.com and IG @thefront.market

Overall, we had an amazing time at the Front Market. I purchased several unique hand-made jewelry pieces from a few WOC-owned stores and a really cool print featuring a tiger to hang in my office.

My friend went all out and bought several fashion pieces from a vintage seller and other on-trend accessories. We felt great knowing that we were supporting and contributing to sustaining the local small-business community. Not only did we feel great but we were excited to look great too. Everything we bought was killer and not something you can just buy at your local big box store.

If you ever feel like you want to shop for some amazing and unique things but don’t know where to go, then please check out the Front Market in the Spring when they open up again. I promise you won’t regret it!
