ALPHA TAU OMEGA The brothers of ATO are excited to this year’s Spring Recruitment. Alpha Tau Omega is a strong brotherhood that stands for scholarship, fellowship, and character. We pride ourselves on our philanthropy, Walk Hard. This year we have 36 men slated to make the 128.3 mile journey to Panama City, Florida. We have become Jeep Sullivan’s Outdoor Adventures largest contributor, raising over $25,000. We are excited to up that number this year. Along with our largest philanthropic donation last year, we were also awarded the National Top Chapter award by Alpha Tau Omega Nationals. This is an impressive feat, seeing that there are between 140-150 open chapters nationally, and our chapter is only eleven years old. We as a chapter are striving diligently to follow this success both nationally and locally. We are entering this spring’s Greek Week as last year’s champions, and are excited for the fun of this years. With all of these things being said, it is a great time to be an ATO. Most importantly, it is a great time to be Greek. We hope to see you all sign bids at any of the eight great fraternities on campus. With Love and Respect,

Gus McKenzie

Why to rush from a new member... During my pledgeship I have learned many things and met so many great people who I will remember for the rest of my life. When deciding to pledge, I wanted to be a part of something that was bigger than myself. I was looking to grow as a person, in my faith, and have the chance to impact as many people as I can. ATΩ has provided that for me so far, and I couldn’t be prouder. Going into pledgeship I knew a couple of people already in the fraternity so that helped me a little bit. However, along the way I was presented with numerous brotherhood events and times where I could just hang out and get to know my pledge brothers. One way that helped me get to know them was by being on the pledge flag football team. From memorable practices to games, I was able to connect with my pledge brothers who I can now say are some of my closest friends. Grades are very important to me, and it encouraged me to know that ATΩ requires a mandatory 2.6 GPA to become initiated. It is one of the highest on the row, so you must be dedicated in your studies. We are really here to get an education but being involved with an organization helps you maintain the balance between school and social life. I personally have grown up a lot since coming to college and pledging ATΩ. Last but not least, ATΩ was the first fraternity based off of Christian principles. This was a very important thing to hear during pledgeship. I mentioned earlier how I want to grow in my faith while in college and this fraternity can certainly help me achieve that goal. Numerous bible studies and small groups are held within the fraternity and there are tons of guys around you who can hold you accountable for your actions. Everyone is this fraternity cares for you and wants you to succeed and be successful. Ultimately, ATΩ was everything I could want in a fraternity. I’ve made many memories so far and the exciting thing is that it is just getting started. With Love and Respect, Eric Lee, Chi Pledge Class, Fall ‘16

DELTA CHI

Reed Kelley

Delta Chi is looking more forward toward this upcoming spring recruitment than ever. Being the first chartered fraternity on campus and just celebrating our 50th anniversary last year we are seeing more alumni than ever come and help out and get to know all of our active chapter members. Delta Chi at Troy University is one of the longest consecutively running chapters in the country and that comes from following our core values of Friendship, Character, Justice, and Education. The Jimmy V foundation for cancer research we raised over $5000 for last spring and have surpassed our goal we set to raise for our philanthropy every year since I have joined. Delta Chi was founded on the principle of bringing together men of similar interests to work towards a common good. This doesn’t mean that men in a particular chapter are just clones of one another, but rather that the common bond of personal development through brotherhood can motivate a group of men to accomplish great things. This close association of college and university men produces life-long friends. Fraternity men are given more opportunities to succeed such as Delta Chi alum Ashton Kutcher and Kevin Costner in their acting careers to Reince Priebus who is Chief of Staff for Donald Trump. Joining a Delta Chi is not just something you partake in for four years, it is a bond you have for life. Born Proud Raised Proud Reed Kelley, Delta Chi, Rush Chair 2017

Why to rush from a new member... As a pledge of Delta Chi here at Troy University, I have had the opportunity to be a part of something truly amazing. This fraternity has helped to teach me the importance of gaining a solid education, building strong friendships, and securing a brotherhood bond with my pledge brothers and the members of the fraternity. Coming from the small town of Elba, Alabama, I did not know what to expect coming to a larger university. Delta Chi has helped me to grow accustomed to the school, community, and all around atmosphere of Troy University. I have also been presented with many activities to help me become closer to all of my pledge brothers throughout the semester. These have included homecoming events, intramural sports, pledge retreats, and most importantly just spending time with each other every day. As a pledge of this great fraternity, I have discovered that it is not just a house. It’s not a club. It’s not a party. It is a challenge and a promise. It is a million moments of truth. It’s old as well as it is new. It’s a gift entrusted to me to cherish and then to give away. It’s a shared mission. It’s a lifelong expectation. It’s a daily call to action. It is a future of opportunity. It’s a chance to matter. Chase Moseley, Fall 2016 New Member

BORN PROUD RAISED PROUD

DELTA KAPPA EPSILON My name is Furman Taylor I am a sophomore political science major here at Troy University, and also the active Rush Chairmen for the gentleman of Delta Kappa Epsilon. Going Greek is something that almost guarantees the likelihood of your success in life will increase, but rushing DKE is much more than that, it’s the unweathering brotherhood that means no matter what path you take you will have a support system pushing you toward success and at times even opening the doors you once thought were locked. Standing alongside such an exclusive group of members and an even more prominent association of Alumni you will observe how to win and develop the skills necessary to dominate in every situation. As its written in the history books since 1844 Delta Kappa Epsilon has shaped this country, with 6 U.S Presidents over 140 U.S Representatives and over 50 U.S Senators including Senator Paul Bussman a Troy alum we have proved that 200,000 men can masked by 40,000 with greater resolve. So Rush DKE and help us continue to maintain the Fraternity Spirit here at Troy University. With Love and Respect,

Furman Taylor

Why to rush from a new member...

During my first semester here at Troy University, I was the epitome of an average student. I attended my classes, I studied, and then I spent the rest of my time playing basketball in Sartain Hall. Coming to Troy was not solely an extension of my education, it was a new beginning for me. I made fair grades, as well as a handful of friends throughout the semester, however, I was searching for something more, something bigger than myself, but I was not sure how to find it. Spring semester one night in the gym that I spent most all of my time in, I got invited to play a game of basketball by a someone I saw around campus occasionally who I had never spoken to before. Initially, I looked at fraternities as groups of young men who were on the pedestal that I wanted to be on. However, I felt as if the members were not going to accept me due to my background, or my financial situation. The beginning of my Sophomore year I received a text from Furman inviting to a trip to Lay Lake. I was confused why he was so consistent about me, was it because he saw more potential in me than I saw in myself? I thought so, however, one day, Furman called me and convinced me to come by saying it was him and a few brothers having some fun before the fall semester started; little to my knowledge, it was a fall rush trip that was going to completely change my view of greek life forever and introduce me to my closest friends, my pledge brothers. If it had not been for the consistency of Furman Taylor I would still be searching for what he was trying to bring me too all along, and I am so sure of it. Delta Kappa Epsilon has been a blessing to me in more ways than I ever thought possible. It has truly been an eye opener to see all the achievements I can be a part of, as well as opportunities that I could receive, by joining this prominent fraternity and I am willing to do everything in my power to cross into this organization and join the Pi Beta chapter as a gentleman, a scholar, and a jolly good fellow when that time commences, because true wealth is not of the pocket, it is found in the non-tangible treasures that we choose to pursue and embrace. So rush DKE, true wealth is only one experience away. John Cole, Delta Kappa Epsilon New Member

FRIENDS FROM THE HEART, FOREVER

FARMHOUSE When looking to rush a fraternity you should be looking for lifelong friends and people who you can call your brothers. To rush FarmHouse is to be apart of something bigger than yourself. FarmHouse itself is an acronym: Faith, Ambition, Reverence, Morality, Honesty, Obedience, Unity, Service, and Excellence. This is what FarmHouse stands for and we live these simple words everyday. FarmHouse Fraternity strives for excellence in the classroom, on the intramural fields, and in the community. We have won the Deans Cup five times out of the last six years including four in a row. We have also won the all sports trophy for the past two years. Rushing FarmHouse will ensue that you are built into a man physically, socially, morally, intellectually, and spiritually. Rush FH! Joseph Nixon, FarmHouse Rush Chair

James Cottingham

Why to rush from a new member... I chose FarmHouse because I felt more at home there, and the close-knit brotherhood that they had. Whenever you walk into a room you could tell these guys really wanted me to be apart of their fraternity. These things really meant a lot to me. The respect I got from them made me want to be a FarmHouse man. The fact that they took making grades so seriously and that they had a competitive intramural team that I could be apart of really sold me on the fraternity. FarmHouse’s motto, “Builder of men” made me realize in my short time of being there as a new member, that FarmHouse has already made me a better man. “Progress Shall Mark Our Every Step” is a part of our object and we take that too heart. We live by that saying and how everyday you should be striving to become a better man than you were the day before. Going Greek was the best decision I have ever made. I have met my lifelong friends and had the time of my life with them. If I hadn’t gone Greek, I do not know what I would have done with my college experience. Go Greek and enjoy your time here at Troy University! Lane Mitchell, Fall 2016 New Member

BUILDER OF MEN

LAMBDA CHI ALPHA My name is Clark Campion and I am a brother of the Sigma Tau Zeta chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha here at Troy University. This year I had the privilege to serve the chapter as the recruitment chair. I had a blast meeting all of the future Trojans who were interested in going Greek. At Lambda Chi Alpha, we offer a very diverse brotherhood with having brothers from all over the nation, which automatically drew me to the fraternity. Lambda Chi Alpha at Troy University in my opinion has the strongest brotherhood bond because I know that if I ever needed help that they would all be there for me and have my back no matter the circumstance. We also take great pride in our philanthropy. In the spring of 2016 we raised $5,000 for Tenley Norman, a two year old baby girl from Robertsdale, Alabama who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. She is now cancer free and the brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha were very much honored to be a part of this family’s journey toward health. The brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha take great pride in every aspect of a successful college career. Going Greek was one of the best decisions I have made since being in college, and being a Lambda Chi Alpha has made it even greater.

Why to rush from a new member... My name is Cody Gandy and I am an associate member of the Sigma Tau Zeta chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha here at Troy University. The ways in which this fraternity has affected my life are innumerable. The best part of the whole experience is the fact that I have gained 37 brothers in my life that I know would do anything to help me out. Coming from Pensacola Florida, I didn’t know many people at Troy, but joining Lambda Chi Alpha has introduced me to many people. I have bonded with brothers who will become lifelong friends and many other people as well. Being a part of this fraternity has also held me to a higher standard with my grades and my overall character. There are many brothers in the fraternity who have reached out when I have struggled in classes. They have been able to help me and tutor me. Joining Lambda Chi Alpha has helped me get involved around campus, including getting a job with Dean Reeves and building relationships with faculty and staff. I would highly recommend joining Lambda Chi Alpha because it has given me numerous opportunities to do great things and be a part of something bigger than myself. EVERY MAN A MAN

PI KAPPA PHI

James Cottingham

Pi Kappa Phi has been a major force on the Troy campus since our inception as the first fraternal organization 1964. From our humble beginnings, our chapter has spanned to include over 1100 brothers over five decades in a long standing tradition of excellence and brotherhood. One of the major components of what makes the journey to fraternal excellence the most rewarding is our chapters exhaustive philanthropy, The Ability Experience; a nonprofit organization which supports people with disabilities. In 2015, our chapter was able to raise over $5,500 for this philanthropy, in addition earning three Fraternal Master Chapter Awards in Campus Involvement, Service & Philanthropy, and in Branding and Communication regarding our efforts on campus Along with the previous year’s efforts, in 2016 after his possessions were destroyed in a house fire, the brothers of Pi Kappa Phi successfully held a $15,000 fundraiser to replace the E-Sight device (which helps combat visual impairment) of Professor Joseph Arnold. Also to increase fundraising and awareness, at least one of our brothers rides a bicycle in an event called Journey of Hope each summer, biking across country and raising nearly a million dollars annually for the organization. Along with our vast charity efforts, the brothers of Pi Kappa Phi also commit ourselves to academic excellence and campus involvement. Complying with a National Standard of 2.70 but personal standards at 3.0, our Chapter managed to achieve a 3.152 Spring 16 GPA, placing second among all fraternities on campus. As a result to the diligent work, we have also earned the Most Improved in Scholarship Award for the first time at the National level and were also awarded Best Sportsmanship for Troy University in All Sports events. Regardless of all our achievements on paper as a chapter, however, we regard the most important experience, quality, and goal of our chapter is the eternal bond of brotherhood we instill in all loyal members who call themselves brothers. We have much to be proud of as Pi Kappa Phi brothers here at Troy University. We look forward to meeting you and encourage you to meet the challenge and become part of the first established fraternity at Troy University, Pi Kappa Phi! – Steven Sain

TAU KAPPA EPSILON “Rushing a fraternity is much more than just going Greek. It is a time where you make a decision to choose not only a brotherhood, but a support system that will last through college and many years after you graduate. Coming from the small town of Sylacauga, Alabama, it amazes me the opportunities that were never presented to me until I let my social barrier down. Rushing a fraternity has shown me if you really put yourself out there, you can experience great things. For me, TKE showed me that you don’t have to buy your friends. Tau Kappa Epsilon takes pride in being the true definition of brotherhood. When you join our fraternity, you immediately tell the difference in the person you are and how much we help you grow. We hold all of our brothers to a high standard because we want all of our men to enjoy their college years but be as successful as possible while they are here. Being the recruitment chair has helped me really connect with men on a personal level and I believe that is the first step in choosing the right home for yourself - making friends. Our biggest goal is to help you shape into a better man for a better world and to impact the world in a positive and effective way.”

Joshua Byrd

Joshua Byrd, Recruitment Chair

Why to rush from a new member... When I first came to Troy, I had no intention on rushing a fraternity. Now, I’m glad I rushed during my first semester. Not many things grab my attention but when I was introduced to the brothers of TKE, they showed me a different side of the typical fraternity. Tau Kappa Epsilon is not a stereotypical “frat” which parties all the time, but a true fraternity which focuses on brotherhood, scholarship, and becoming a better man. My pledge process was a life changing experience. The brothers really know what to do to guide me in the right direction and to help expand my horizons socially and academically. Whenever I’m struggling in school or with personal issues, I know I can rely on my brothers to help me out. I know I have made friends for a lifetime. I would encourage everyone to consider rushing TKE because we truly help develop better men for a better world.” Jake Harris, Brother

BETTER MEN FOR A BETTER WORLD

SIGMA CHI When I came to Troy University, I was looking to join a brotherhood where I could be pushed as a leader and developed as man, but also I wanted to go somewhere that celebrated men of different temperaments, talents, and convictions. A place where everyone is the same is a place of complacency. Many times through my college career I have faced adversity and I am glad that my fraternity has prepared me for those people who do not always agree with me. As the Pledge Class President of my pledge class I was tasked with the duties of relaying information from brothers to pledges and vice versa, Jake Doggett Matthew Anderson as well as organizing all pledge events and tasks within the pledge class. This helped me grow more responsible as a person and more assertive as a leader. All men want to be a part of something bigger than themselves. At Sigma Chi I have found that through a brotherhood that champions me in my victories and supports me in my sorrows. These men push me to strive toward the positive qualities of masculinity that had previously been instilled by my family. Many of my closest friends and brothers have strengthened themselves due to the values and ideals built upon by our pledgeship. Rush Chairs Matthew Anderson & Jake Doggett

Why to rush from a new member... When I came into pledgeship, I was anticipating the stereotypical fraternity scene. Instead I was taught about Sigma Chi’s beliefs and characteristics it takes to become a man of good character within the first few weeks of pledgeship. I got to meet and build relationships with pledge brothers with a wide variety of personalities from many different backgrounds. I was pushed to reevaluate my moral code and strive toward the standard in which the fraternity started and is embodied by. The packed schedule that comes with pledgeship forced me to learn time management and how to work alongside over 40 other guys towards a common goal. One of the most important things I’ve gained through this experience are the memories I’ve made with guys I hope to soon call my brothers. All of the ideals we have learned and memories we have made through pledgeship I know will better my whole pledge class and I as men. Alex McGinty, New Member Fall 2016
