GRAMMY® nominated Blake Shelton, CMA Awards’ Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year for the third consecutive year is celebrating eight consecutive #1 singles, 13 overall with his latest multi-week #1 single “Sure Be Cool If You Did,” and back-to-back wins on NBC’s hit show The Voice. His current smash hit single, “Boys ‘Round Here,” which he premiered on the Academy of Country Music Awards, marks his fastest rising single to date. “My fans, country radio, friends, family, you name it - they know I love to perform,” Blake said with a devilish smirk. “This summer is going to be a blast. I want everyone at my shows to leave feeling like they got every penny’s worth of their ticket. I am going to give them every ounce of me on that stage because they deserve it. My fans are die hard country fans, they love to laugh and have a good time and I’m going to join them in what truly will be the Ten Times Crazier Tour.” Blake is “becoming the most important and visible ambassador from Nashville to the American mainstream” (The New York Times). He has been nominated for five GRAMMY® Awards, including a nod for Red River Blue, the Associated Press calling the album “the best album of his career” as Country Album of the Year, won ACM’s Male Vocalist of the Year for a second time, and then made history by winning three consecutive CMA Male Vocalist of the Year awards and Song of the Year with his wife and Grammy winner, Miranda Lambert. Blake’s infectious multi-week #1 hit, “Honey Bee” holds the record for the fastestselling digital Platinum single for a male country solo artist.

Possessing of one of the most distinctive voices in all of rock and roll, Frankie Valli continues to dazzle. Inspired by fellow New Jersey native, Frank Sinatra, and such jazz inuences as the Hi-Lo’s and the Four Freshman, Frankie Valli always knew he wanted to perform. “We used to sing around the Newark area where I grew up,â€? Valli recalls. “I’d always wanted to be a singer, ever since my mother took me to see Sinatra at the Paramount Theatre in New York as a kid. I decided then and there that’s what I was going to do‌ be a successful singer.â€? With “Sherry,â€? the Four Seasons had crystallized a distinctive musical style‌ the popular doo-wop music of the 1950s inected with the rhythm and blues inuences that would come to deďŹ ne much of the music of the 1960s. With Frankie’s dazzling falsetto as its trademark, the Four Season’s sound would become one of the most enduring in all of rock and roll. Over the next few years the Four Seasons would follow their hit, “Sherry,â€? with such unforgettable original songs as “Big Girls Don’t Cry,â€? “Walk Like a Man,â€? “Candy Girl,â€? and “Rag Doll,â€? all of which became rock and roll classics. More recently, “December, ‘63 (Oh, What a Night)â€? appeared on the soundtrack to Forrest Gump, and re-entered the singles chart. Owing to its second lease on life, it became the longest-charting single in history with ďŹ fty total weeks. A true American pop music icon, Frankie Valli’s incredible career as a solo artist and with the Four Seasons has produced 19 top ten hits and sold over 100 million records worldwide. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and named longevity champ of the rock era by Billboard Magazine. Frankie Valli has continued to woo audiences throughout the world both with his recordings and live performances for almost four decades, truly making him one of rock and roll’s most enduring performers.

HEART

SATURDAY, JUNE 29, 2013

Ann Wilson and her younger sister, Nancy Wilson, first showed the world that women can rock when their band Heart stormed the charts in the ‘70s with hits like “Crazy on You,” “Magic Man,” “Barracuda,” “Straight On,” “Even It Up,” “Kick It Out” and many more. Not only did the Wilson sisters lead the band, they wrote the songs and played the instruments, making them the first women in rock to do so. Heart continued topping the charts through the ‘80s and into the ‘90s with huge hits like “These Dreams,” “Alone,” “Never,” and a string of other hits that showcased the sisters’ enormous talents as both musicians and singers. Across four decades and 14 studio albums, Heart has sold more than 35 million records, had 21 top 40 hits, sold out arenas worldwide, and profoundly influenced the sound and direction of American rock music while inspiring women (and guys too!) around the world to rock out in bands of their own. In 2010, Heart released its first album in a dozen years. Red Velvet Car received both critical and commercial acclaim, debuting in the Top 10 in Billboard’s Top 200 Album Chart. In 2012, Ann and Nancy released a memoir, Kicking & Dreaming: A Story of Heart, Soul and Rock & Roll, which became an immediate New York Times best seller. As individuals, the sisters have also achieved significant success. Ann sang on songs that were both chart successes and motion picture themes, like “Almost Paradise” from Footloose, “Best Man in the World” from Goldenchild, and “Surrender to Me” from Tequila Sunrise, while Nancy composed and performed the scores to a half dozen motion pictures including the award-winning Jerry Maguire and Almost Famous. The Wilson Sisters were also awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on April 18, 2013.

She unselfconsciously introduced Bob Dylan to the world in 1963 and has focused awareness on songwriters ranging from Woody Guthrie, Dylan, Phil Ochs, Richard Farina, and Tim Hardin, to Kris Kristofferson and Mickey Newbury, to Dar Williams, Richard Shindell, Steve Earle and many more. Baez’s most recent album, How Sweet the Sound (2009), features tracks spanning her whole musical career, including some of her most distinguished hits: “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” “Diamonds and Rust,” and “Oh Freedom.” Baez is joined by INDIGO GIRLS, who are described as a simple formula of earnest, intelligent songwriting, commanding harmonies, and effortless live performances. A favorite folk act for more than 20 years, the duo of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers have released multiple platinum records including the popular Rites of Passage and Shaming of the Sun and GRAMMY® Award-winning single “Closer to Fine” which topped the charts in the late 1980s.

From performing at the WOODSTOCK FESTIVAL IN 1969 to winning an International Bluegrass Award and the GRAMMY®’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Joan Baez’s enduring musical journey has been a remarkable one driven by a love of folk music and a passion for human rights. More than 50 years after she began her career at the famed Club 47 in Boston, Baez remains a musical force and activist whose influence is incalculable. She marched on the front lines of the civil rights movement with Martin Luther King, Jr. She inspired Vaclav Havel in his fight for a Czech Republic. She sang on the first Amnesty International tour, and she stood alongside Nelson Mandela when the world celebrated his 90th birthday in London.

On Assignment: Woodstock Photos by Rolling Stone photographer Baron Wolman

ON DISPLAY THRU AUGUST 18 In 1967, when Jann Wenner published the first issue of Rolling Stone, the music media was dominated by trade journals such as Billboard. Local underground newspapers were sprouting up in major cities, but the idea behind Rolling Stone was a music paper for the broader, national listening public. Baron Wolman was Rolling Stone’s first staff photographer — a position he held for three years — and his work set the visual tone of the magazine well past his tenure there. “I was…earning a living as a photojournalist,” he writes, “working for anybody who would pay me to take pictures — magazines, newspapers, ad agencies, universities, anyone…and then Rolling Stone came into my life.” The Woodstock Music and Art Fair was photographed by scores of professional photographers and photojournalists, but only Baron Wolman’s images of the festival told the story in Rolling Stone magazine immediately following the event. Wolman’s photos focus on the attendees and behind-the-scenes action rather than the performers on the stage. “I spent more time photographing the festival ‘experience’ than I did the musicians,” Wolman writes. “I had shot most of the bands before so I thought why would I want to photograph them again? I didn’t need any more band pictures. But all those people... that was something else. I had never seen anything like this before in my life.” His iconic images helped to create the long-lasting, idealized myth of the festival. In 2012, Baron Wolman agreed to donate a selection of his Woodstock festival images to The Museum at Bethel Woods’ permanent collection. One hundred of the best of those photographs were selected, and The Museum is proud to share them with the public in its Spring 2013 special exhibition, ON ASSIGNMENT: WOODSTOCK, running through August 18.

845-794-3030 1997 Route 17M Goshen, NY

Over Natalie Merchant’s 30-year career, she has earned a distinguished place among America’s most respected recording artists with a reputation for being a prolific songwriter with a compelling artistic vision and a unique and captivating performance style. With her latest and highly acclaimed Nonesuch recording entitled, Leave Your Sleep, Natalie Merchant embarks on a new artistic path, creating songs from literary inspiration which are composed for expanded musical ensembles and orchestra. Natalie Merchant began her musical career as the lead vocalist and lyricist of the pop music band 10,000 Maniacs and released two platinum and four gold records with the group between 1981 and 1993 (The Wishing Chair, In My Tribe, Blind Man’s Zoo, Hope Chest, Our Time in Eden, and MTV Unplugged). Together with artists like R.E.M., they defined college rock and created the first wave of alternative rock bands and what became known as the alternative rock format on FM radio. In 1994, Natalie Merchant began her solo career with a self-produced debut album, Tigerlily (1995). In the years following, she released Ophelia (1998), Natalie Merchant Live (1999) and Motherland (2001). In 2003, Merchant independently released an album of American and British folk music, The House Carpenter’s Daughter, on her own label, Myth America Records. In 2005, she curated a collection of her own work for a double album, Retrospective and another for her former band, Campfire Songs.

Teaching the Skills of Awareness

Yo-Yo Ma once again embraces styles and traditions that go beyond classical music by bringing together four American string virtuosos and creating a new kind of chamber ensemble. Joining world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma are legendary Bluegrass fiddler Stuart Duncan, acclaimed bassist Edgar Meyer, mandolin wizard Chris Thile and guest vocalist Aoife O’Donovan. While each artist is a prominent figure in his own music sphere, they have come together as a unified ensemble on a most remarkable and organic cross-genre project. The music feels both new and familiar – it’s composed and improvised, uptown and down-home, funky and pastoral and above all, uniquely American. Yo-Yo Ma’s multi-faceted career is testament to his continual search for new ways to communicate with audiences, and to his personal desire for artistic growth and renewal. Whether performing new or familiar works from the cello repertoire, coming together with colleagues for chamber music or exploring cultures and musical forms outside the Western classical tradition, Mr. Ma strives to find connections that stimulate the imagination. Yo-Yo Ma maintains a balance between his engagements as a soloist with orchestras throughout the world and his recital and chamber music activities. He draws inspiration from a wide circle of collaborators, creating programs with such artists as Emanuel Ax, Daniel Barenboim, Christoph Eschenbach, Kayhan Kalhor, Ton Koopman, Bobby McFerrin, Edgar Meyer, Mark Morris, Riccardo Muti, Mark O’Connor, Kathryn Stott, Michael Tilson Thomas, Wu Man, Wu Tong, Damian Woetzel, and David Zinman. Each of these collaborations is fueled by the artists’ interactions, often extending the boundaries of a particular genre. One of Mr. Ma’s goals is the exploration of music as a means of communication, and as a vehicle for the migration of ideas, across a range of cultures throughout the world. To that end, he has taken time to immerse himself in subjects as diverse as native Chinese music with its distinctive instruments and the music of the Kalahari bush –people in Africa.

ZAC BROWN BAND

ROEBLING INN ON THE

DELAWARE

SATURDAY, AUGUST 17, 2013

ZAC BROWN BAND may have ten hit singles, two platinum-selling records and countless dedicated fans, but to hear its members talk they’re just getting warmed up. That’s right — after numerous nights in front of packed arenas and amphitheaters, things are just beginning to come together for this accomplished band of brothers, led by one of the most charismatic individuals ever to don a beanie and dominate radio. The band’s latest album Uncaged (Atlantic/Southern Ground) which debuted at #1 on Billboard 200 is proof positive. The result of a highly collaborative process, it’s the sound of a group of versatile musicians gelling into a formidable unit and realizing they’re capable of anything their fearless leader happens to dream up, from traditional country (“The Wind”) to Caribbean rhythms (“Jump Right In”) and even slinky bedroom R&B (“Overnight”). Running roughshod over genre boundaries, and bringing its audience along for the ride, its title is absolutely accurate — this is truly the sound of a band Uncaged. “I think that we’ve grown so much over the past few years as individual musicians and as a cohesive unit,” observes drummer Chris Fryar. “As a band we have really grown together. And we play really, really well together. That increasing level of maturity really shows up on Uncaged.” “We’re always trying to push the barrier of our musicianship and I’m proud to say that there is a little bit of something for everyone,” adds Brown. “It’s your basic country-Southern rock-bluegrass-reggae-jam record.”
