Dear Friends of Bethel Woods, It’s time again to inaugurate the fall season with a new rendition of the Harvest Festival at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. Built on the location where music influenced history and the ideals of a decade were put into action to affect positive change, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is a not-for-profit cultural organization committed to inspiring expression, creativity, and innovation through the arts. Now in our eighth year, we continue to provide outstanding artistic performances, while supporting the needs and expectations of children, teenagers, adults, and seniors throughout the local community and the region as a whole. The Harvest Festival at Bethel Woods plays an integral role in bringing thousands of guests to our site to enjoy our multi-weekend festival featuring close to 100 vendors each week as part of the farmer’s market, craft village and festival food areas. Farmers, artists, and performers all share this gathering space where they provide bountiful foods, unique crafts, and outstanding musical talents from throughout the region. The Harvest Festival is central to the core values and mission of Bethel Woods and supports a commitment to the surrounding community. It continues to provide a vital resource in Sullivan County. We are grateful to the Gerry Foundation for building Bethel Woods and supporting the last fifteen years of the Festival. We thank our sponsors and vendors for making it possible to share the talents of local growers, musicians, and artisans with our guests in this exceptional setting. We also ask that you consider making a donation, however large or small, toward Bethel Woods, as this will help offset the cost of operating this Festival. Please visit http://bethelwoodscenter.org/support.aspx Thank you and enjoy the Festival. Sincerely, Darlene Fedun

A COMMUNITY FESTIVAL
Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is dedicated to bringing enriching cultural experiences infused with discovery and joy to the community and area youth and families. The Bethel Woods area created especially for children and families is part of this growing tradition, and like the Harvest Festival itself, has grown and evolved each year. There is a long list of activities for children, ranging; these include working with teaching artists like Matthew Sherman to provide themed arts and crafts, to incorporating special Bethel Woods programming led by our education staff and volunteers, to inviting community groups to showcase their mission while offering arts related activities for young people. With each season the Festival offers new programming and activities in an area focused on children and families. This year, the “Creation–Innovation–Imagination” area includes the traditional corn maze, hay maze and arts & crafts and will introduce some new activities. A Festivalthemed story time featuring readings of children’s stories will be one of the exciting new attractions. In addition, a sing-along, where participants learn catchy songs, movement activities, games and improvisation, will be incorporated. A few other surprises will also be a part of the fun. Mark Robinson, Education Programs Manager said, “The Education Department hopes that these new additions will grow into traditions of the Harvest Festival experience. Join us at the Bethel Woods’ tent each week to find out what new and interesting things we are up to.” Bethel Woods continues reaching out to invite the community to be involved. The corn maze, which is planted by the Michel Dairy Farm in Bethel and designed and cut by Bethel Woods staff, has served as a fundraising opportunity for community organizations. In keeping with tradition, this season both the corn and hay mazes were offered to area PTAs / PTOs to help raise funds for student activities and field trips. “As Bethel Woods continues to develop so does our interest and commitment to engaging young audiences,” added Margaret Hughes, Director of Educational Initiatives. 37 37
