CLIENT REPORT The Client Mark Anderson is a minister from a church in Auckland and has been with the church for over 20 years. He is a family man with a wife and three daughters and is also famous for his artistic side of photography and poetry. About the Church & Cafe The church is multi-cultural, multi-generational and regional; not a building, an event or a proposition, but a community for the people. They have a permanent staff of 11 people, about 50 volunteers and over 400 members. There are two Sunday services during the morning and one evening service. The Cafe is equipped with an Industrial Coffee Machine, a basin, storage cabinet for cutlery, a Granite Kitchen Island and a fridge. The Main Kitchen is nearby which holds the Industrial dishwasher and basins for washing up the dishes Cake or food made by members of the church will sometimes be served but never made in the cafe. The cafe will only be serving coffee and tea. The coffee/tea is for free and is subsidised by the church. However there is a donation box on the table if you wish to contribute. Purpose of the Project: To meet the demand and challenges of Ministry in the 21st Century. “Christian fellowship where people meet people” to be the gathering place for young and old after Services and Functions. Concept Modernise the existing coffee shop/cafe and also create the right ambiance, a distinct and vibey atmosphere. Church Building and Cafe Space The church was designed and built 11 years ago by a well-known architect. The cafe is located in the church building with a lovely open plan space. The design of the cafe is modern and contemporary with high ceilings, steel beams and a cement floor, with lots of natural light that flows through the bi-fold doors. Currently, the space feels blunt and dated with raspberry coloured couches, chairs and a feature wall in maroon. There is a lack of “cafe feel and style” to it.

The Solution A wow factor can be achieved within a realistic and down to earth budget; the space only needs a revamp with no major structural changes. Placement of furniture in “zones” will instantly set the tone and the original features add character, we keep the cement floor, ceiling and steel beams. Industrial pendants to be placed over the kitchen island and attached a galvanised iron sheet to the island, also install Mason Jars lightning for the right atmosphere. Benjamin Moore Paint – “Vanilla Milkshake” for walls, white is the perfectly balanced colour, clear and natural in its influence and endlessly versatile. “Iced Slate” for the steel beams and Black Board Paint for the back wall for the “Industrial Style” look. Add rugs to anchor the two zones with the couches, chairs and coffee table. Slipcovers can be an easy way to change the look of a room without incurring the expense of buying new furniture. Retro wall clocks will be used as wall art. These will display the time in major cities worldwide, representing the multi-cultural diversity of the members. Furniture to keep I would suggest that all existing furniture to be kept as it is in very good condition, almost new. Existing furniture as follows: • • • • • • • •

2 x Standard arm chairs 2 x Two seater couches 3 x Solid Wooden Tables (160 x 120cm) 7 x Tolix Replica Tables (120 x 80cm) 7 x Tolix Replica Tables (80 x 80cm) 3 x Round Silver Tables (80 x 64cm) 2 x Round Coffee Tables (100 x 100cm) 72 x Ola Chairs – Anthracite (49(W) x 54(D) x 82 (H)
