TOP GUN: MAVERICK
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLEFILMS APART, TOM CRUISE HAS LARGELY STEERED CLEAR OF SEQUELS. So it’s a big deal that he’s returning to one of his most celebrated characters, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, in this eagerly awaited follow-up to his 1986 megahit. Picking up the action 34 years on, Joseph Kosinski’s “love letter to aviation” sees Cruise’s ageing hot-shot become instructor
and mentor to Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of his late flying partner, Goose. Time, though, hasn’t relieved Maverick of his need for speed –something he will get a lot of, if the awesome aerial sequences we saw in the trailer are anything to go by. Jennifer Connelly and Ed Harris also appear, and Val Kilmer returns as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky.
