SCENE

Dahanu is a narrow transect between the Northern western ghats and the Arabian sea comprising diverse units of landscape varying from highland forest, midlands to the coastal wetlands, mudflats and marshes.

The Vahindra river starts from the highlands and empties in the coastal area. It acts as a connector for the different landscape units and the communities (Warlis, Kolis, Wadwals, Parsis) that reside within it.

DETAIL PLANTING OF A PATCH

From Solid to Hollow

The moist deciduous forest of Baratang island, Andaman

Project type | Research and Documentation

CEPT University M.La | Semester 1 | Foundation Studio

This project explores a unique karstland forest and ecosystem, tucked amidst the tropical rainforests of the Baratang Island, of the Andaman Islands, which are the south eastern extension of the eastern Himalayas.

Karstlands are highly isolated and fragile terrains housing rare endemic flora and fauna that exclusively depend on the karstlands. The study starts with exploring the tropical rainforest setting and its monstrous features, which changes in character as the underlying geology changes from sandstone to limestone as we approach the karstland, making it visibly unique.
