DAN SANDERSON
DIRECTOR OF SPORT
Welcome to Sport at Truro School. We pride ourselves on being a top-ranking UK independent school for sport. In addition to first-class facilities and teaching staff, we provide a wide range of opportunities and activities to explore and enjoy during your time with us. Truro School has a fine tradition of sporting achievement, but there is far more to sport than the final result. Being part of a sports team provides the opportunity to meet new friends, develop skills and find new passions. Sport helps to instil many of the values you will need as you leave school and progress through life, including confidence, courage, curiosity, creativity and compassion, along with a healthy body and mind. At Truro School, we want all of our pupils to experience a broad range of sports and enjoy being active. It is important that pupils lead the way to both help drive the sports they enjoy and encourage others to pursue an active, healthy lifestyle. We offer high-level competitive opportunities alongside local fixtures and recreational sport, allowing everyone to find an access point into sports that suits them.
Sport is essential and should sit alongside your academic life. A balanced curriculum allows you to achieve your potential, both in and outside of a sporting arena. I hope you enjoy this snapshot of sport at our school. We are incredibly proud of our offering here at Truro School and hope that it inspires you. We cannot include everything on these pages, but please do get in touch if you have any questions. I wish you well with your academic journey, and I hope you remain healthy and active. Yours sincerely, Dan Sanderson DIRECTOR OF SPORT

GOOD HEALTH AND ENJOYMENT Keeping active and engaging in sports is an integral part of maintaining and developing a strong body and mind. It helps foster teamwork, discipline and friendships, and we encourage students to lead the way in establishing a sporting curriculum that inspires everyone at every level.
INTER-SCHOOL MATCHES, LEAGUE AND CUP COMPETITIONS
PARTICIPATION We emphasise the importance of participation and offer a range of competitive opportunities, including inter-house and inter-team matches. Pupils will progress at different rates across various disciplines, with sport being one of the most challenging environments for this. We select our fixtures on the strength of the year group and the number of players for each sport. Our focus is to ensure that all pupils are challenged and allowed to progress. Through this approach, every pupil develops a deep-rooted love of exercise, regardless of their ability.
Our school teams are regularly engaged in inter-school matches as well as county, regional and national competitions. Whilst participation comes first, we will guide pupils who excel at sport to reach their full potential. Truro School is regarded nationally as a top-ranking school for sports. We regularly feature in a list of the UK’s top 20 independent schools for sport (as determined by School Sport Magazine). This annual ranking is based on 20 different sports, covering over 120 national competitions. Many of our pupils represent county-level teams, with some progressing to regional representation. In the last five years, we have won or been through the final stages of national competitions in netball, football, surfing, squash, swimming, rugby, crosscountry, badminton, and fending. We also have a current world champion in the iQFoil (windsurfing) under-21 event and a future Olympic hopeful.
