Bursary Campaign
A message from the Chairman
Truro School Foundation Awards
The Gift of Education – For Future Generations
Excellent education is a life-changing experience
The Truro School Foundation has taken on the challenge of extending the School's bursary programme. It brings together members of the whole School community who share my belief that we should commit ourselves to educating talented and enthusiastic young people. At Truro School they will have the opportunity to develop existing talents, find new ones and achieve their ambitions.
Truro School is committed to giving access to a Truro School education to as many children as possible, regardless of parental means. In order to do this the school already offers a small number of bursaries. We aim to augment these with our Foundation Awards: for boys and girls who we believe will thrive in the Truro School environment but due to family circumstances require full or part assistance with school fees. They will have the understanding, commitment and willingness to make a significant contribution to the life of Truro School, positively influencing others along the way.
To celebrate Truro School’s 140th Anniversary, The Truro School Foundation is launching the "20 x 20 Campaign".
Our vision To be able to support 20 Foundation Bursaries by 2020, providing the gift of first class education for those children and young people who do not have the financial means to access this alone
Your generosity Your generous support is vital in enabling us to realise these ambitious goals.
20 x 20 Campaign Objectives: By the end of 2020
• 20 new Foundation Awards will have been created to support 20 new bursary places at Truro School. • A fund will be in place to further support Foundation Award recipients with any additional educational opportunities. • The Foundation’s capital will be boosted to maintain and support additional Foundation Awards year on year until there are 20 or more bursary award recipients in each year group.
Whether Truro School has a place in your heart as a former pupil, parent, or friend of the school, you can make a huge difference by either giving on a regular basis or making a one-off donation. I urge you, the Truro School Community, to join together and help us create something wonderful for now and for future generations. The Power of Our Community combined with
The Power of Collective Giving Foundation Awards that would otherwise not be possible. Alone, a single gift is amazing, joined with others that gift becomes infinitely more powerful. We hope to unite groups of like-minded people, creating professional groups, and harness the immense power of collective giving. Imagine what can be achieved when we come together as a Community.
just 50 like-minded people coming together to form a Collective. If the group continue their donations for just 12 months, £7,500 would be raised to support a child’s education. A group continuing for 7 years would support a child with a 55% Foundation Award for the full duration of their senior education.
For example, if you are an individual giving £10 per month, joining with a group could raise that amount to £500 per month, with

From the Headmaster I was delighted for the whole Truro School community when last year ISI Inspectors arrived at both the Prep and Senior Schools and rated us ‘Excellent’ in all areas. It recognised that not only do the pupils of Truro School attain the highest academic standards but they also benefit from a wealth of opportunities to develop the personal qualities that will allow them to live their lives to the full and to benefit those around them. What was also reflected in our Inspection was the importance of the Community to all those at Truro School; that “Pupils have a very well-developed moral and spiritual awareness, underpinned by the Methodist values of the school’s foundation and a strong respect for everyone within the school community.” We now look to the generosity of the school’s alumni, parents and supporters, who have all benefitted from being part of that same community, to enable us to offer bursary places. These will provide a great opportunity to boys and girls who will value that community, make the most of all the opportunities it provides and go out into the world to meet life’s challenges. This brochure outlines how you can help, individually or as part of a year group, professional group or those with similar interests. We can make sure that a donation, small or large, can make a life-changing difference to a child which will contribute to a brighter future for us all. Please do help if you can.

CAN YOU
give a small amount each month?
Perhaps the cost of a Cappuccino Coffee each week? How many of us easily spend at least £2.50 on a coffee each week, or maybe even each day?

Donations
Legacies
Since the launch of the Foundation in April 2017, we have received a number of gifts, which is very encouraging. They are a mixture of very generous one-off donations and instructions for monthly and quarterly recurring donations that allow us to plan for the future. We now hope to build upon this tremendous start.
We are very fortunate to already have been given a large legacy. This incredibly generous gift has enabled us to provide our first 7-year, 100%, Truro School Foundation Award.
Your gift can be made as a one-off donation, a monthly, quarterly or annual direct debit transfer, anonymous or by name. If you would like to help in this way:

Don’t forget Gift Aid Gift Aid is an invaluable source of “extra income”. If you are a UK taxpayer, giving to the Truro School Foundation (TSF) with Gift Aid will enable us to increase the value of your gift by up to 25% at no additional cost to you. To make a Gift Aid donation, you must pay at least as much Income Tax as the amount of tax reclaimed by TSF. This is currently 25 pence of every pound donated.
A number of alumni have also already completed legacy pledge forms indicating they have made a provision in their will in favour of the Truro School Foundation. If you would like to leave a legacy gift to help fund a pupil in a particular field of expertise, for someone originating from a specific area, or perhaps create an award in memory of a loved one, we can help to support your wishes. We have a number of helpful guides available on request, or for more information, please visit: https://www.gov.uk/donating-tocharity/leaving-gifts-to-charity-in-your-will
Leaving a legacy in your will, no matter how great or small, is leaving a gift for a child’s future.

Gaining a bursary to Truro School enabled me to grow academically and personally. On leaving school, I went to the University of Southampton where I gained an honours degree in Adult Nursing and then joined the Royal Navy as a nursing officer.
If the Bursary Scheme was not in place, I would simply not have had the opportunity to attend Truro School. I now realise what a significant impact on my life this was: a combination of an excellent education and opportunities to discover and develop my skills and talents.
Sport has always been a major aspect of my life but it was only at school that I truly understood its link with developing leadership and teamwork. This, and having the honour of being Head Girl, provided me with the skills I have since transferred to the busy life of a hospital ward. I will always look back fondly on my time spent at Truro School and will be forever grateful for the opportunity that laid the foundations for my future. I truly believe I wouldn't be where I am today had I not been able to make the most of all that Truro School had to offer. I am very grateful to the former members of the school community whose generosity created the fund for my Bursary.

Esse Quam Videri Society The Society has been created in order to give the Headmaster and Foundation Trustees the opportunity to thank all those who donate or are considering leaving a legacy. Every person who makes a gift to the Foundation will automatically become a member of the Esse Quam Videri Society (unless they choose to remain anonymous). Members will receive invitations to selected school events, productions and presentations. The name was chosen for the Society as the School motto, To be, rather than to seem to be, remains at the heart of all we do at Truro School and now it seems evermore fitting when applied to such a group of generous individuals.
The Award Process Everyone applying for assistance with fees will have an initial review of family financial circumstances, with updates on an annual basis. Only students who are eligible for financial assistance, have exhibited a clear ability to benefit from a Truro School education through the admissions process (examination, report and interview) and show a willingness to contribute to the co-curricular life of the school will be recommended to the Trustees of the Foundation.
