Every Employee Wellness Program Should Measure These Four Magical Numbers When it comes to wellness professionals they really have a daunting job with various tests, equations and numbers to choose from for determining an employee’s health. Nowadays, there are various options available to measure physical health, and it often becomes difficult for an employer to choose one. They range from measuring of absenteeism, disability, insurance premiums, hospital admissions, health risk assessments, health risk factors and many more. But a majority of health experts agree, that when we talk about measuring an individual’s health, there are 4 key factors that can actually save lives. Let’s know more about them and try to apply them in our workplace wellness program. 1. Total Cholesterol Ideally Should Be <200 Cholesterol is considered as a fatty substance that our body requires to function. But when there’s an excess of cholesterol in the blood, it has a high risk of building up on the inside walls of arteries which increases the risk of stroke and heart diseases. There are no exact symptoms of high cholesterol, hence, it is very important to measure it. 2. Blood Pressure Ideally Should Be 120/80 or less With high blood pressure, there’s an increased risk of stroke, kidney disease, and heart attack. It might also damage the eyes, arteries, as well as the brain. Anyone can suffer from a high blood pressure, and a lot of people do not even have its symptoms. 3. Blood Sugar (Glucose) Ideally Should Be <130 The sugar stored in our body is glucose and it is the main source of energy. For any individual average blood sugar level ranges between 80 and 120. If the blood sugar level gets too high or too low, it might be a symptom of diabetes. If left untreated, diabetes can lead to kidney disease, heart disease, as well as other complications. 4. Body Mass Index Ideally Should Be <25 Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of weight in relation to the height of an individual. If the BMI of an individual id over 25 that means that a person is overweight, and if it is above 30 it indicates obesity.
