The beauty of nature that surrounds St. Luke’s Hospital provides peaceful views and a comforting environment; it’s no wonder the hardwoods, natural light, mountain views and natural stone have helped create a unique healing environment for patients and families. With the opening of a new patient care wing and rehabilitation center, St. Luke’s Hospital has enhanced the patient experience through the healing powers of nature.

Opened in January 2014, the new wing on the hospital campus provides dedicated care and rehabilitation of orthopedic patients. Large private patient rooms feature expansive views of nature, full private baths, a daybed for visitors, and a flat-screen TV, all to enhance the short but impressive stay following surgery.

A state-of-the-art Rehab Center provides a comprehensive range of therapies in an open therapeutic gym and five private treatment rooms. An underwater treadmill provides one-on-one aquatic therapy, and a ceiling-mounted harness system allows patients to continue their rehab without the fear of falling. Featuring a full kitchen, bathroom and car simulator, the Rehab Center provides opportunities for patients to practice and master Activities of Daily Living (ADL) before leaving the hospital.

In addition to orthopedics and rehab, St. Luke’s Hospital is well-known for providing “high touch” healthcare right along with “high tech” services such as digital imaging, 24-hour physician-staffed Emergency Department, impressive surgical services and respectful geriatric-psychiatric care for older adults suffering with depression, dementia, Alzheimer’s and other mental health issues.

Fully accredited by The Joint Commission, the country’s premier accreditation agency for hospitals, St. Luke’s Hospital received national recognition as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for 2013 for treating pneumonia and for surgical care. In announcing this milestone for the community hospital, The Joint Commission states, “This achievement demonstrates St. Luke’s Hospital’s commitment to assuring that evidencebased interventions are delivered in the right way and at the right time because it is the right thing to do for our patients.”

St. Luke’s was also recognized in 2014 as a top performing hospital by iVantage Health Analytics for overall excellence in Quality and Patient Satisfaction.

With support from St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation and St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, St. Luke’s remains a private, not-for-profit acute care hospital. Both the hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation are managed by a local board of trustees. St. Luke’s Hospital is affiliated with Carolinas HealthCare System for management, contracting and purchasing assistance.

SERVICES PROVIDED TO THE COMMUNITY INCLUDE: • 24-hour emergency care (EMS transport and helipad on campus) • Orthopedic surgery and nursing care • Physical, occupational, hand and speech therapy; Lymphedema therapy • Perioperative services (general, ophthalmology, urology) • Intensive care unit • Medical-Surgical nursing unit • The Center for Behavioral Medicine (an inpatient geriatric-psychiatry unit for older adults suffering with depression, dementia, Alzheimer’s and other mental health issues) • Senior Life Solutions (an intensive outpatient therapy program for older adults facing life’s challenges)

St. Luke’s Hospital has been an important part of the Foothills’ history, providing needed healthcare services to the area for more than 85 years. The individualized attention and teamwork St. Luke’s staff display in caring for patients has helped our community hospital dispel the myth that bigger is better. Indeed, St. Luke’s Hospital provides exceptional care, close to home.
