WORKING HARDER: Few things are more critical to our daily lives than our health. And this cannot be truer for people who live in rural areas. Located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, St. Luke’s Hospital has risen to one of the top critical access hospitals within a 200-mile radius of Polk County. And we have a “patient experience” rating thirteen percent higher than the national average! As we’ve worked harder to become one of the best hospitals in the area, we are now working to become the “model” for critical access hospitals in the entire south.

BRINGING WORLD-CLASS: To become the best, we needed to hire the best. And we’ve worked very hard to hire world-class talent. To summarize:

• St. Luke’s Urology Associates is guided by Cleveland Clinictrained urologist Dr. Barry Bodie. Dr. Bodie with offices in Columbus and Forest City, provides several services not widely found in the region. With procedures such as “retrograde intrarenal surgery, Dr. Bodie can non-invasively remove large kidney stones, significantly reducing both recovery time and post-surgery complications. • St. Luke’s Cancer & Infusion has ascended to new heights under the leadership of nationally renowned oncologist and hematologist— Dr. Joe Stephenson. He is an excellent doctor who profoundly knows the practice of oncology and hematology and is involved in cancer research at the molecular level, the science behind the therapy. Dr. Stephenson is fluent in chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and other treatment options. StLukesNC.org/Cancer

• St. Luke’s Orthopedic & Sports Medicine features five-star surgeons Dr. George Azar and Thomas Cadier, providing hip, knee, and shoulder joint replacement surgery. In addition, the practice offers a full complement of sports medicine, fracture care, and hand surgery. StLukesNC.org/Ortho

• St. Luke’s General Surgery is led by highly regarded five-star surgeon Dr. Josh Knollhoff. He is an accomplished surgeon in endoscopic, laparoscopic, and open procedures. Moreover, Dr. Knollhoff is highly skilled in breast, hernia, biliary, colon, skin, imageguided diagnostic, elective, emergent, and acute care surgery. He has also done an extensive burn and trauma residency and is proficient in lines and ports. StLukesNC.org/Surgery

• St. Luke’s Cardiology is directed by nationally recognized and Vanderbilt-trained cardiologist Dr. Evans Kemp. While in Nashville, TN, Dr. Kemp led a group of 70 cardiologists. He is interested in structural heart imaging, valvular heart disease, congenital heart disease, coronary artery disease, and preventative cardiology. StLukesNC.org/Heart

• St. Luke’s Senior Life Solutions is an intensive outpatient counseling program that addresses the emotional and behavioral health of adults over 65. Through a combination of therapies, education, and wellness programs, Senior Life Solutions assists older adults experiencing depression, anxiety or have recently experienced a traumatic event and a host of many other symptoms. • St. Luke’s Emergency Department is open 24/7 and is staffed by a very experienced group of doctors certified in emergency medicine. StLukesNC.org/ED

• St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Center is a hidden gem in the western Carolinas. Located at the hospital, our center boasts 5,500 square feet of state-of-the-art equipment and some of the best licensed physical therapists in the region. We offer one-on-one physical and occupational therapy, lymphedema therapy, oncology rehabilitation, pelvic floor therapy, balance/vertigo therapy, and aquatic therapy. StLukesNC.org/Rehab

UNLEASHING WORLD-CLASS: With the amassing of worldclass talent, we knew we needed to acquire best-in-class technology to unleash their expertise. We’ve acquired 3D mammography, an ECHO stress-testing lab, and most recently, the GE Revolution Apex Elite Computerized Tomography. The technology we’ve invested in is simply the best in the world. And with these tools now online, we’ve unleashed world-class healthcare in Polk County and the surrounding region. StLukesNC.org/Radiology, StLukesNC.org/Scan

Today, St. Luke’s is more robust and better positioned to care for the greater region. As our complex services continue to reach people of all ages, we’re attracting more patients from Asheville, Hendersonville, Rutherfordton, Forest City, and Spartanburg. While once a tiny hospital offering little more than essential life support, we’re emerging as a small yet significant player in regional healthcare.

We’re working harder every day, not because we want a better hospital, but because we want a healthier community.
