“Collective waterscapes� envisions Paraiba Valley cities as unified players for improving the water and health quality of the greater region of Mina Gerais, Sao Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro. To address the region’s pressing water issues, this proposal establishes a landscape framework for future waste water management by maneuvering surfaces and implementing simple place-making strategies. We believe that access to clean drinking water is not only a daily necessity, but an asset which will become the driving force for a healthy and resilient environment. By providing local actors with the tools and techniques to implement waste water treatment micro-infrastructures into the city fabric, a new urbanity of culture and living will emerge from the water systems that sustain it.

Pollution in the region According to World Health Organization (WHO), the headwaters of the Paraiba River is highly contaminated. Toxic bacteria in the water level are at least 25 times greater than WHO standard. Despite the poor water quality, six million people living in the river basin, including the eight million residents of the Rio metropolitan region, depend on Paraiba do Sul for potable water.

To implement this vision we focused our design on the creation of new urban centralities through the synergies between water infrastructure and socio-economic spaces. visible, a series of spatial typologies are grafted onto water infrastructures to create social and recreational spaces. Most importantly, these considerations will become “locally rooted” through decision making and participation at the community and municipal scale, allowing residents to foster a healthy relationship with the river.

Replicating this along the Paraiba, the collective effort of cities can capture, reuse and clean water before it flows into the Paraiba do Sul, contributing to a healthier water ecology for the larger region.

01 COLLECTIVE WATERSCAPES | SCALES OF CLEANING WATER Focusing on household sewage, stormwater and the water in Paraiba do Sul, our intervention consists of a multi-scalar approach organized along an urban tributary that flows into the Paraiba River. Through embedding water cleaning infrastructures into new surfaces and landscapes, our proposal restores on a larger scale the existing ecology of the tributaries as well as add layers of social spaces and public
amenities accessible to the local community. Using the spatial concepts of gradient and cascading in combination with technologies of biodigesters and phytoremediation, the new water-cleaning landforms also serve as urban tools defining public and private edges, creating shading devices, generating spaces for new economies, as well as giving a new identity for communities.

Long Island City is the westernmost residential and commercial neighborhood of the five boroughs of New York City. Along with this mixed fabric, it holds three NYCHA settlements that mark this site. Long island city is in close proximity to Manhattan and Roosevelt Island, and is greatly supported with all the modes of transport. The site under consideration is the 21st street which in many ways forms the spine of this neighborhood linking the two NYCHA developments. The idea of the project is to strengthen this spine that will directly aid in activating the neighborhood. But how can one do that? The future scenario of this neighborhood is going to be largely influenced by the developments in and around, like the Cornell tech campus, which will put pressure for future growth in these areas. The site in consideration has a scope for this expansion and these prospective developments can happen with interventions of art and technology that will flow hand in hand to create a beautiful synergy for a new vision. The project demonstrates this idea not only by predicting what can happen but also by integrating the old and the new through a unique mixture of varying landscape strategies with commercial development that will cater to the needs of the residents as well as serve to the new neighborhoods in the site. An art bus stop with dynamic use of colors and design that starts reflecting on the streetscape in conjunction with information pavilions and exhibition spaces that will establish a continuity and vibrancy to the currently mundane roads. By generating a free flowing public realm, Long island city has the potential to witness this expansion and the project demonstrates a way in which the site could be shaped for a better tomorrow.

The idea of the project is to visualize a possible rezoning which provides possibilities for tech start-ups and artists. The design mainly focuses on transforming the 21st street, the spine that connects queens bridge and ravenswood by integrating a unique mixture of varying landscape strategies with tech commercial development and art interventions.

By examing a particular American cities and regions whose functioning is integral with one or more rivers; analyzing different urban systems which enable the city/ region to operate and change We were trying to get the view of how urban and regional systems interact, overlap, and co-produce spatial and social conditions. We deciphered the roles and studied how each system operates within the city, and how the relationships among these systems inform exchanges between cities and their regions.

Lredo is located on the north bank of the Rio Grande in South Texas, across from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, which is the number one inland port in the United States and the third largest U.S. customs district. The city population was 236,191 making it the tenth most populous city in the state of Texas and 3rd most populated on the United States-Mexican border, after San Diego and El Paso.Laredo is part of the Laredo-Nuevo Laredo Metropolitan Area with an estimate population of 636,516. One of the 10 fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the United States. NAFTA’s effects economists, whose findings have been reported in publications such as the World Bank’s Lessons from NAFTA for Latin America and the Caribbean, NAFTA’s Impact on North America, and NAFTA Revisited by the Institute for International Economics.

AveRy is an Augmented Reality application designed for architects and urban designers. By simply playing with 2D drawings (plans, sections, diagrams), we could see the 3D spatial attributes, easily and quickly do the spatial organization and design in a single app, which in the past need to be first modeled in computer software and then rendered either into images or animation. This is a more convenient and responsive way for architects and urban designers to interact with the design; it is the future design aid for architects and urban designers.

In 2013, Gina Bellafante of the New York Times wrote that Brownsville has “an unusual kind of promise: it is a place so immune to gentrification that it is also immune to the negative fallout from gentrification, which means it has the capacity to serve as a template for a different model of revitalization” and that, “Brownsville has an authenticity for which there is no external market” Inspired by these sentiments, Unique Immunity Community works toward a provocation rather than a conclusion. Its purpose is to understand and explore Brownsville’s ‘immunity’ to gentrification and the ‘authenticity’ which this immunity both depends on, and in turn, reinforces. The video first contemplates how and why this immunity has occurred, and second, reveals the psychographic manifestations of this immunity: what it looks at feels like from the inside. But what does this so-called ‘immunity’ mean for the future of Brownsville’? What is this unique kind of promise that Brownsville offers?
