Forged & Found is a spontaneous exploration of a smithy hidden in an old movie house situated in the heart of Observatory, Cape Town. The Bijou was opened in 1941 and remained open as a movie house until the year 2002. It was under the ownership of architect, William Hood Grant, who was also responsible for the cinema’s design. Currently under the ownership of one South Africa’s most renowned artists

and blacksmiths, Conrad Hicks, The Bijou has since become both a smithy utilized by Hicks, and an art gallery. There is such an enigmatic aesthetic within this space that sets it apart from what is expected. Hopefully this body of work is able to translate that.
