Brian “Binna” Swindley’s mother Shirley was the inspiration behind Janbal Gallery. This authentic Indigenous art experience was created to grow awareness and appreciation for Aboriginal art through hands-on painting and storytelling. Binna and Shirley’s works depict Dreamtime stories, Kuku Yalanji life, the animals of the Great Barrier Reef and the rainforests of the World Heritage listed Wet Tropics. Garth Murgha and Estelle Tranby of Native Creations Australia have been producing artefacts and paintings for the Cairns tourism market for over thirty years. The Yarrabah Arts Precinct is made up of the Art Centre and Menmuny Museum. The Art Centre is a dynamic space for local artists to undertake many local art forms and cultural activities, including ceramics, painting, weaving, textiles and arts and crafts. It is available for bookings by the public or community service agencies looking to engage in or to facilitate arts or cultural activity programs. The Menmuny Museum displays a large amount of Indigenous artefacts, history and local knowledge and is supported, if requested, with a guided tour of the museum.
