DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS Leading management scholar Mike Hitt received his B.B.A. and MBA from the Rawls College. He is a University Distinguished Professor Emeritus of the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University and a Distinguished Research Fellow of the Neeley School of Business at Texas Christian University. The Times Higher Education listed him among the top scholars in economics, finance and management based on the number of highly cited articles he authored. The Academy of Management Perspectives listed him as one of the top two management scholars in terms of the combined impact of his work both inside and outside of academia. In recent years, he was listed as a Thomson Reuters’ Highly Cited Researcher. During his more than 40-year career as a teacher and researcher, Hitt worked at four universities, the longest of which was Texas A&M. He has authored and co-authored a number of books and journal articles largely on topics in the field of strategic
management and entrepreneurship. He is a former editor of the Academy of Management Journal and a former co-editor of the Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal. Hitt is a Fellow in the Academy of Management, the Strategic Management Society and the Academy of International Business. He is also a former president of the Academy of Management and Strategic Management Society. He received an honorary doctorate from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and is scheduled to receive one from Jonkoping University in Spring 2018. He has received the Irwin Outstanding Educator Award, the Distinguished Service Award and the Distinguished Educator Award from the Academy of Management.

Rawls College Dean Margaret L. Williams has more than 30 years of experience as an educator, researcher and administrator in both management and psychology. Prior to joining the Rawls College in April 2017, she served as the Page Endowed Dean of the College of Business and Public Administration at the University of North Dakota. Her experiences as a dean include managing a budget of more than $25 million, managing the creation of a new School of Entrepreneurship, steering development and alumni relations, enhancing research portfolio and addressing curricular needs. Williams also held faculty and teaching positions at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business, the University of Tennessee, Purdue University, Indiana UniversityPurdue University-Indianapolis and Indiana University.

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS R. Duane Ireland, who received his Ph.D. from the Rawls College in 1977, is the Executive Associate Dean of the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University as well as a University Distinguished Professor and the Benton Cocanougher Chair in Business. Ireland has been recognized on two separate occasions in the Economics and Business section of Thomson Reuters’ “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds.” Ireland has authored or co-authored nearly 30 books, including his most recent Entrepreneurship: Successfully Launching New Ventures and Strategic Management: Competitiveness and Globalization. He has published numerous articles in journals, such as the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review and many more. He served a three-year term as editor of the Academy of Management Journal. He also served as an associate editor for the Academy of Management Journal, as a consulting editor for Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and as an associate editor
for the Academy of Management Executive. Ireland has served on editorial review boards for more than two dozen journals. He has been a co-editor for 12 special issues of journals, including Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal and Journal of Business Venturing. Ireland is actively involved in the Academy of Management and served as the 69th president in 2014 and as a member of the Board of Governors from 2002 to 2005. Among the awards he has received over his career, in 2017, Ireland received the Academy of Management’s Career Achievement Award for Distinguished Service for his significant contributions to the field of management including his service, research, innovative teaching methods and breakthrough developments in the profession. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Management and a Fellow of the Strategic Management Society.

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS Matthew Malouf is the owner of Malouf Interests, Inc., a real estate development company he formed in 1995 after a long career in retail. A Lubbock native, Malouf earned a B.B.A. in Management from Texas Tech in 1974. While in Lubbock, Malouf served on numerous city boards, including the Urban Renewal Board and the Civic Center Board. He was a director of Carillon Place, Lubbock Country Club and Covenant Health System. He served as a volunteer for 22 years with United Way of Lubbock and for five years with the Arthritis Foundation. Malouf worked at his family’s clothing store for many years, learning to love the retail business, including the relationships formed and the “serving the customer” attitude. Malouf’s is now one of the nation’s premier retail establishments. Seeking a change after 30 years in retail, Malouf joined a close friend to learn the real estate business and opened his own office
in Dallas in 1996. Since then, Malouf has developed over 130 retail, office and medical projects in 12 states. In December he broke ground on a landmark project, the Gabriella, a mixed use/high rise development adjacent to Dallas’ Central Business District. After moving to Dallas, he served as co-chairman of the Business School Capital Campaign and was a member of the Texas Tech Foundation Board. Malouf has continued community involvement while in Dallas with his support of the Momentus Institute as a member of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas and numerous other charities, including Hope Farm and The Gatehouse. He is also currently a director of PlainsCapital Bank.

Former Chancellor of Texas Tech, The Honorable Kent R. Hance has served in many roles, as an attorney, businessperson and politician. After a highly successful seven year tenure as Chancellor, he rejoined his law firm Hance Scarborough in 2014. In addition to his private practice of law, Hance continues to serve TTU as Chancellor Emeritus. Hance earned a B.B.A. in Finance from Texas Tech and his J.D. from University of Texas. While teaching at Texas Tech, he was named outstanding professor in 1973. He began his career in politics in the Texas State Senate in 1974. Four years later, he was elected to the 19th Congressional District. After Congress, Hance was elected to the Texas Railroad Commission. Hance is a proud native of Dimmitt. He and his wife Susie have five children and seven grandchildren.

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS Temple native Dan Pope graduated with a degree in finance from Texas Tech in 1985 with an emphasis in accounting. While at Texas Tech, he was active in a variety of campus organizations, including Phi Delta Theta, Student Government Association and Mortar Board. He also served as president of the Interfraternity Council. After graduation, Pope worked for Xerox Corporation. He spent a decade in sales and sales management roles for Xerox in Midland, Austin and Nashville. In 1994, he returned to Lubbock and founded Benchmark Business Solutions. Over the next twenty years, he built Benchmark into the most successful Xerox Agent/Dealer in the U.S., creating 75 jobs and serving communities in Texas and New Mexico. Pope has served in many leadership roles in nonprofit, healthcare and educational organizations, including Covenant Health System, Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees, the Lubbock Area United Way and, in 2012, he joined the Rawls Advisory Council. He and his wife
of 25 years, Denise, are active members at First United Methodist Church. They are also the proud parents of Manning and Anne Claire. Today, Pope serves as the Chief Development Officer of Covenant Health System, where his responsibilities include philanthropy leadership. He also serves on the board of directors for Tyler Technologies. Pope was elected Mayor of Lubbock in May 2016. He is focused on working with the City Council to move Lubbock forward by focusing on common sense leadership, effective use of city resources, public safety, communication, job creation and proactive planning for growth. He loves being described as “Lubbock’s biggest cheerleader.”

Led by David G. Alderson, president and CEO, Alderson Enterprises is one of Lubbock’s most respected businesses. Established in 1949 as Alderson Cadillac in Lubbock, today the company represents major luxury car brands across the High Plains. Alderson started with the company in 1984 and became general manager in 1992. Alderson served on the board of directors of Lubbock Economic Development Alliance, Lubbock Area United Way, Talkington School for Young Women Leaders, Chancellor’s Council at Texas Tech, Lubbock National Bank, Lubbock Country Club and the City of Lubbock Downtown TIF Board. He has also served on the Cadillac National Dealer Council, Texas Automobile Dealers Association and on the board of the Lexus Dealer Council. Alderson earned his B.B.A. in General Business from Texas Tech in 1986.
