Assured Admission – Students graduating from an accredited high school that have the required combination of high school class rank and college entrance test scores indicated below will automatically be admitted. The required SAT scores for assured admission are based on the math and critical reading portions only.

Transfer Students – Students transferring into the Rawls College of Business from another institution must have taken a minimum of 18 credit hours and have a 3.00 transfer GPA. Students transferring from another college within Texas Tech University will need to have completed a minimum of 18 credit hours with a minimum cumulative 3.00 Texas Tech GPA. Admission to Texas Tech University does not guarantee admission to the Rawls College of Business. Admission to the Rawls College of Business does not guarantee acceptance to a specific major. While every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of information outlined in this publication, the University reserves the right to make changes at any time.

General Requirements – The Rawls College of Business requires students to maintain a minimum cumulative 2.75 Texas Tech GPA in order to progress. However, there are specific business programs that have additional program requirements. For details visit with an academic advisor in the Undergraduate Services Center in RCOBA 145.

How It Works by Year – All students will be classified as COBA (College of Business Administration) until they have completed their lower division coursework with a minimum cumulative 2.75 Texas Tech GPA. Students will then apply to a specific major within the college once they are within nine to 12 hours of completing the lower division coursework.

Find the major that fits you – As a Rawls College of Business student, you have the option to pursue one of seven majors. Within a major, you may choose to pursue a specific concentration (ex. a Marketing major can pursue the Supply Chain concentration). Many of our students double major (ex. Finance/Accounting) or earn a minor outside of the Rawls College of Business. Additionally, the Rawls College of Business offers an accelerated program in Accounting that prepares students to sit for the Certified Professional Accountant (C.P.A.) exam. Students also have the option to pursue a dual degree.

Majors ACCOUNTING is a business discipline where students learn to prepare and interpret key financial statements used by businesses and organizations. Careers include auditing, budget analysis, financial reporting, tax planning and cost accounting.

ENERGY COMMERCE focuses on the upstream (exploration and production) business operations side of the oil and gas industry. Careers are in-house negotiators, division order analysts or in lease administration.

FINANCE is the business of deciding how money is invested. Finance professionals gauge potential risks and returns, and then determine the value of the investments such as companies, projects, real estate and stocks. Careers include financial analysis, cash management, real estate, investor relations and financial reporting.

GENERAL BUSINESS is designed for dual degree students and is not a standalone program. Students pursuing a minor in Construction Management can declare General Business as a major.

MANAGEMENT focuses on the understanding of critical processes and resources needed for an organization to achieve its mission and measure results. Careers include human resources management, consulting, sales, insurance and purchasing.

MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS is the management of information using technology. MIS majors learn concepts that help organizations utilize their information resources to make better decisions. Careers include system development, network technology, consulting and web design.

MARKETING is the process of creating a product, communicating a message and building relationships while delivering value to the customer. Careers include sales, customer relations, purchasing, retail and brand management.

Certificates CERTIFICATE IN ENERGY Designed to prepare non-Energy Commerce students for careers in the energy industry. Requires 15 hours of Energy Commerce courses. Admission requirements are a minimum 3.25 TTU GPA, completion of the lower division business core and approval from the Energy Commerce area coordinator.

ISQS UNDERGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN MIS The purpose of this certificate is to allow non-MIS students to expand their knowledge of information technology. Requires 12 hours of MIS courses. Admission requirements are “C” or better in ISQS 2340, minimum cumulative 2.75 TTU GPA and admission to major.

UNDERGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN LEADERSHIP Allows business majors to build and reinforce interpersonal skills necessary to be successful in a management role. Requires 12 hours of related Management courses. Students must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 TTU GPA to apply.

UNDERGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN FINANCE The certificate in finance for business majors is designed to provide undergraduates a strong foundation in the essential topics of finance. This certificate allows non-finance students to expand their knowledge of finance so that they are prepared to participate in business and personal financial decisions that enhance value. Requires 15 hours of Finance courses, 2.75 TTU GPA and a “B” or better in FIN 3320.

UNDERGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS – The International Business Certificate enables students to establish an international business and culture knowledge base that provides preparation for meeting global business challenges. Combined with an international experience, the curriculum enhances students’ abilities to communicate and engage in evolving world economies, with a greater appreciation of diverse commerce, cultural and social contexts. Requires completion of: 1) MGT 4375; 2) MKT 4358; 3) IB 4361or BECO 4366; and 4) BA 4382 or a minimum of three study abroad credits.


For 2015-2016, the Business Learning Community will be located in Murray Hall and is open to freshman business majors. Murray Hall is conveniently located adjacent to the Rawls College of Business. The Business Learning Community provides a unique experience for students in the Rawls College of Business to live together in an environment supporting their academic, personal and professional success. The Rawls Business Leadership Program is a dynamic learning program designed to develop students as leaders. This program focuses on developing the “complete” student, a student who has both a strong academic foundation and the real-world experience necessary to be a successful leader. The four elements of the program consist of experiential living and learning, real-world application, international experience and interactive personal development. While this program is not an independent major, it is designed to enhance a student’s learning experience at Rawls by providing the opportunity to participate in action-based leadership activities applicable to all business majors. Frequently asked questions Are Scholarships and/or financial aid available for incoming freshmen?

Yes, scholarships and financial aid are available for incoming freshmen through the ApplyTexas application and Office of Financial Aid.

Can I be in the Honors College and the Rawls College of Business at the same time?

Yes, in fact it is encouraged. Most students have other majors outside of the Honors College.

When do I sign up for classes?

You will sign up for classes when you come for orientation after you have met with your advisor.

What can I get involved in?

There are over 450 student organizations across campus and 22 organizations within the Rawls College that provide opportunities for personal and professional development.
