FINANCE

Businesses need to be profitable to survive, which is why every industry needs experts to understand where the money comes from and where it goes. Accounting majors can pursue careers in auditing, tax planning, cost accounting, budgeting, bookkeeping, consulting or even management positions across many industries.

Students learn relevant industry skills through hands-on active learning techniques supplemented by the knowledge of industry trends; the economic decisions businesses must make; laws and regulations pertaining to the energy industry; and the geopolitical importance of energy.

Finance is the business of deciding how money is invested. Finance professionals gauge potential risks and returns, and then determine the value of the investments. Finance majors are prepared to become innovative leaders in the banking, finance, or real estate industries.

Option to participate in the accelerated bachelor’s to master’s program.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

MANAGEMENT

Designed for students who want to gain a better understanding of business while pursuing another major outside of Rawls College. Only open to dual degree majors, not a stand-alone program.

IT majors learn concepts that help organizations utilize their information resources to make better decisions. With the increase in technology there is a demand across all industries for qualified IT professionals.

Management focuses on the understanding of critical processes and resources needed for an organization to achieve its mission and measure results.

Option to participate in the 150-hour accelerated bachelor’s to master’s program, designed to prepare students to sit for the CPA exam.

Available concentrations: Application Development, Business Analysis, Cyber Security

MARKETING

SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

Marketing creates, communicates and delivers value to customers. Careers include sales, customer relations, purchasing, retail and brand management.

Supply chains link multiple organizations together. When supply chains are managed properly, the right products are in the right place at the right time in order to effectively and efficiently meet customer needs. Careers include logistics, sourcing/ purchasing, transport/distribution, and inventory management/warehousing.

Certificates allow students to pursue a special area of interest that complements their major areas of study. Rawls College certificate programs range from 9 to 15 credit hours (i.e., 3 to 5 courses).

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Business is a restricted major. New freshmen from high school must have assured admission to Texas Tech to qualify for business. Transfer students must have 15 credit hours and a 2.75 GPA. Students who do not initially qualify for business will be placed in their second major choice, or placed in the undeclared major. To transfer to business, students must have a minimum 2.75 Texas Tech GPA and 15 Texas Tech credit hours.

SNYDER CENTER FOR BUSINESS COMMUNICATION

Each semester the CMC hosts over 120 local and national organizations for a career fair exclusively for students studying at Rawls College. Students and alumni meet with potential employers to discuss career and internship opportunities.
