Small Group Adventures

Trips created by Travellers

At Tucan Travel, we believe that the best things come in small doses and that’s why we specialise in small group tours. Travelling with fewer people allows you to have a more personal experience while still retaining all of the social aspects of travelling in a group.

Each one of our tours has been designed by people with extensive knowledge of highlights and hidden gems around the world. All of our tours are tested out in advance by Tucan Travel to iron out any kinks before the first departures begin. The aim is to run trips in the most authentic and exciting way possible.

Experienced Tour Leaders & Specialist Guides

Responsible & Sustainable

We only hire Tour Leaders who share our key values and who want to show the part of the world they work in to you. They are resilient, passionate, inspiring and energetic. All of our Tour Leaders are supported on a daily basis by local guides and office-based staff, many of whom are former Tour Leaders themselves.

We believe that it is our responsibility to care for our planet, protect it from damage and secure its future for generations to come. We work within our strict Responsible Travel Guidelines and believe that the true rewards of travel come from experiencing a different culture while giving something back to the communities who make us welcome.

Who travels with us? Travel with friends

Solo Travellers Welcome Of our passengers travel solo

One of the best things about travelling is the people you meet along the way. Our tours allow you to share the adventure with friends you haven’t met yet. As long as you are relatively fit, able to carry your own bags and enjoy meeting new people, you will fit right in.

Our trips are perfect if you are travelling on your own. The vast majority of our tours don’t have a compulsory single supplement so you can share with another fellow traveller of the same gender.

Your Local Payment The Local Payment helps us to keep your tour price as low as possible. It is a non-refundable, fixed amount which is paid to your Tour Leader in US dollars on the first day of your tour and goes towards its smooth running. The money is put straight back into the local economy, often to small suppliers in remote locations without banking facilities. Having this exibility means we can stay in out-of-the-way places which benefit you as well as the local community.

In South America It can be very diďŹƒcult to access US Dollars in South America. Remember to obtain all the cash you will need for your Local Payment before leaving home.

North America

Welcome to

North America

Looking out over the Grand Canyon, Arizona

About North America New for 2017, we have a selection of tours that head to the USA and Canada! Search for bears in Alaska, go celeb-spotting in LA and say aloha to Hawaii. Trek through Canada’s greatest national parks, play your hand in Las Vegas and dance the night away in New Orleans.

Your Transport

Your Accommodation

There is no better way to travel around North America than in a mini-van pulling a trailer behind it. On our camping trips, the little trailer carries everything you might possibly need for a real adventure from sleeping mats to a gas stove while on our hotel based trips, the trailer has plenty of room for the occasional souvenir or shopping trip.

We use a combination of hotels and campsites through North America depending on the region. All equipment is provided on our camping tours apart from your sleeping bag so you don’t have to worry about packing a tent into your backpack. Where possible, we camp inside national parks or stay in hotels within walking distance of the main attractions. Campsites in North America have some of the best facilities and depending on the time of year, you may be able to upgrade to cabins.

Your Meals

Stay Connected

Get ready for a feast. North America is known for its huge portions, from fluffy pancakes to greasy burgers. On our camping trips, your Tour Leader will run a food kitty for meals around the campsite. You will be able to show off your culinary skills as you take it in turns whipping up a dish or two for your group. When not camping, only a few meals are included so there is plenty of opportunities to sample the local cuisine.

14

#tucantravel

With free wifi on board our minivans, it has never been easier to make friends and family jealous back home. While it isn’t unlimited and you have to take it in turns, those long drive days will whizz by faster as you can upload photos, chat with family and choose that perfect Instagram filter.

Day 8 - 10 Seward: From Seward we board a boat to tour the Kenai Fjords, the best way to experience the beauty of the park. Watch out for whales and sea otters and listen out for the

sound of the glaciers crashing down into the sea, a process known as calving. Days 11 - 12 Homer: Homer is a small fishing town but in the heart of bear country. You can join a bear viewing tour to glimpse the elusive animals. Surrounded by dramatic wilderness and stunning ocean, there is heaps to do. The halibut fishing capital of the world, one night, you will enjoy a dinner of freshly caught fish. Central America

Welcome to

Central America Admiring Teotihuacán, Mexico

About Central America NEW FOR 2017! We have a small range of tours that visit Central America. From Mexico all the way down to Panama, get under the skin of this colourful continent. Sip cocktails by the Caribbean Sea in Belize, get off the tourist track in El Salvador and enjoy tours of the biggest and best Mayan ruins.

Your Transport

Your Accommodation

Get ready to travel like the locals do as you crowd into packed public buses alongside everyone’s most treasured belongings. There is no better way to travel in Central America. When not practising your Spanish with your new friend from El Salvador on board the bus, we will shake things up a bit and take a mixture of private vans, short regional flights and overnight sleeper buses to get you from A to B.

While we know you would rather swing on that hammock hanging over the Caribbean Sea at Caye Caulker, we use a mixture of hotels and hostels to rest your head in Central America. Where possible, you will be staying in the middle of the action, close to the main attractions and nightlife so that it is never too difficult to find your way home at the end of the night.

Your Meals

Local Payment

Central America is known for its food. Tacos, refried beans and rice, guacamole and mole are all plentiful here and a walk through the local market will only whet your appetite even more, leaving you with an insatiable hunger for all things delicious. We only include breakfasts in our itineraries leaving you with plenty of opportunities to try every type of local delicacy possible.

30

#tucantravel

Your Local Payment pays for the little things that go towards the smooth running of your tour. From the odd empanada as a sneaky snack on the side of the road to bus tickets and local taxes, it’s amazing how much the small bits can all add up. The Local Payment means that you don’t have to worry about these little costs and you can concentrate on having as much fun as physically possible on your trip.

Inca Trek

6 DAYS

Tour Code: BXRPITT

Peru

Four challenging days of trembling knees and quivering thighs, filled with laughter, breath-taking views, delicious food and Inca ruins. The Inca Trek is the best way to reach Machu Picchu, arriving at the Sun Gate in time for the sunrise after three days of trekking through the Andes. It is quite an achievement and a big tick off the bucket list.

Day 1 Cuzco: Arrive early today for time to explore the old city of Cuzco. Wander through the narrow cobbled streets, try a traditional Lomo Saltado for lunch, haggle in the bustling market or explore the cathedrals and museums. Tonight, you will have a pre-trek briefing before enjoying one or two pisco sours with the group.

Day 4 Inca Trail: A long day of hiking awaits. The terrain is not as difficult today as we pass many Incan ruins on the road to Machu Picchu. Arriving at the final campsite, there may be time to visit Wiñay Wayna, a site almost as impressive as Machu Picchu itself. You may even have the sprawling ruins to yourself.

Day 2 Inca Trail: Grab those walking sticks and tie up your hiking boots as we depart for the Inca Trek. Take a group photo under the iconic sign before trekking to our first campsite. Today’s hike will be quite flat with only one steep climb uphill. Tonight, you will enjoy your first delicious meal cooked by your own chef.

Day 5 Inca Trail & Machu Picchu: Today we are woken early to be one of the first groups to reach Machu Picchu. It is only a three hour hike and the route is busy with other eager trekkers desperate to reach the Sun Gate for sunrise. On arrival at Machu Picchu, your guide will give you a tour of the site, explaining its history and significance. After one final selfie, we board the train back to Ollantaytambo where we jump on a bus returning us to Cuzco.

Day 3 Inca Trail: Waking up to a cup of hot coca tea, today you will conquer Dead Woman’s Pass. A steep climb of 1000m, you will hike at your own pace being overtaken by porters who take each step in their stride. Your guide may show you how to chew coca leaves, a local remedy to help with altitude sickness. Arriving at the top of the pass, there is no other way but down as we head to our next campsite. Tonight it may be a bit colder as we are much higher up.

Welcome to

Asia Exploring Angkor Wat, Cambodia

About Asia Our adventures in Asia showcase some of the most exciting countries on the continent. Visit remote villages, haggle in exotic markets and tick some of the biggest world highlights off your bucket list. Visit the breathtaking Taj Mahal in India, enjoy panoramic views of the Himalayas in Nepal and discover four very different countries in South-east Asia.

Your Transport Hold on tight! Asia is known for its motorbikes, traffic jams and fastpaced way of life and we are going to get stuck in. We will use a huge variety of transport in Asia to get us from A to B including tuk-tuks, rickshaws, taxis, trains and buses. There is always something to see out the window and someone interesting on board to chat to so you will never have a dull moment.

Your Accommodation Sleeping is going to be the last thing on your mind on your trip through Asia. We mostly stay in small hotels, hostels and guesthouses which are chosen for the experiences they offer as well as comfort, security and their proximity to the main sights. Sometimes, facilities such as hot water or air conditioning may not be available and bathrooms may also be shared - although this is rare. You may also sleep on overnight sleeper buses and trains as you travel from A to B.

Your Meals

Local Payment

Travel to Asia hungry. From snakes and scorpions to buffalo steak and the hottest vindaloos, Asia is full of culinary surprises that will challenge your palate and tickle your tastebuds. Where possible breakfasts are included on your tour but you are free to enjoy as much of the local cuisine for lunch and dinner. Your Tour Leader will advise you on where is best to eat and will introduce you to some of the most unusual specialties at your request.

Your Local Payment allows us to take care of the little things so that you don’t have to. From the occasional sneaky snack in a local market to tuk-tuk and taxi rides to your hotel from bus stations, this kitty is put towards all the extra things that you shouldn’t have to worry about when travelling with us. All of you have to concentrate on is having as much fun as physically possible.

accommodation or other arrangements) and to substitute alternative arrangements of comparable monetary value without compensation and accepts no liability for loss of enjoyment as a result of these changes. Occasionally, Group Tours clients may be separated into different transport and hotels depending on local conditions and availability at the time of booking. Any fuel surcharge applied must be paid in full either in advance or by way of local surcharges as advised, failure to pay will result in the client being prevented from joining the Component without refund.

4. Cancellation a) Cancellation by You The client may cancel the booking at any time provided that the cancellation is communicated to Tucan Travel in writing even if verbal notification of an intention to cancel has been given. Cancellation charges will be applied as shown below calculated from the day written notification is received. Cancellation charges are in addition to any insurance, flight or similar service provided plus any additional charges in Clauses 1 & 6. If the reason for cancellation is covered by your insurance policy, you may be able to reclaim these charges. No refunds will be made for any services not utilised. The date used for calculating cancellation charges is the date from which the first Component within the Package commences regardless of the number of Components. Group Tours, Discover or Extra Services; 60 days or more: forfeit of all deposits. 59 - 28 days: 50% of full payment. 27 days or less: 100% of ful payment. Expedition Cruises or Tailor-made Tours; 90 days or more or as advised in Clause 1b: forfeit of all deposits. 89 days or less: 100% of full payment. b) Cancellation by Us Tucan Travel reserves the right to cancel a Component in any circumstances but, except for Force Majeure or the client’s failure to pay the final balance or one of the conditions detailed in Clause 5, will not cancel a Component less than 28 days before departure. Unless the client fails to pay the final balance Tucan Travel will, upon cancellation, return all monies paid excluding payment for travel insurance, flights, similar services and administration charges or offer an alternative Component of comparable standard. 5. Guaranteed Departures and Minimum Numbers Tucan Travel sets its own minimum numbers for Group Tours based on logistics and will operate tours once minimum numbers have been reached. A number of departure dates are guaranteed to depart and will generally operate regardless of whether minimum numbers have been achieved unless it is for safety or operational reasons. Where minimum numbers have not been achieved, Tucan Travel may choose to either operate the Group Tour or cancel the Group Tour and pay compensation to the client as follows: If cancelling more than 28 days before departure: A full refund of monies paid but no further compensation. If cancelling between 27 - 14 days before departure: A full refund of monies paid and a 5% discount on the current price published online (excluding Local Payment) of a similar replacement Group Tour (see below). If cancelling within 13 days of departure: A full refund of monies paid and a 10% discount on the current price published online (excluding Local Payment) of a similar replacement Group Tour (see below). Notes: Refunds and discounts referred to here apply only to Group Tours cancelled within 28 days as a result of failure to achieve minimum numbers. A replacement may be any Group Tour operated by Tucan Travel up to the value of the original Group Tour booked. Refunds and discounts apply to the cost paid for the land component only and exclude Local Payments, surcharges, Extra Services, insurance premiums and administration charges.

7. Travel Insurance Travel insurance is mandatory for all clients travelling with Tucan Travel. Clients together with their personal property including baggage are at all times solely at their own risk. Clients are wholly responsible for arranging their own insurance. A suitable insurance policy should provide adequate cover for medical expenses arising through illness or accident prior to or during the Component and loss of Component monies through cancellation or curtailment of the Component for insurable reasons. Tucan Travel is able to assist clients in obtaining a suitable insurance policy. Clients making their own arrangements should ensure that there are no exclusion clauses limiting protection for the type of activities available during their Component whether included in the cost by Tucan Travel or otherwise. Clients should satisfy themselves that any travel insurance arranged through Tucan Travel is what they require and should arrange supplementary insurance if need be. The travel insurance cover automatically provided with credit card purchases does not provide adequate cover as standard. Proof of adequate insurance will be requested at the start of your Component, failure to provide this will result in the client being prevented from joining the Component without refund.

6. Prices and Surcharges All prices published in printed brochures and other printed media are “from” prices. Tucan Travel sells Components with variable pricing based on availability, exchange rates, operational costs, travel seasons and years. At the least, clients are expected to be able to carry their own luggage over short distances of up to 15 minutes walk and up several flights of stairs if required. Our hotels generally do not have concierge or porter services. Clients are also expected to accept that the Components described are “Adventure Travel” and that travel around and facilities in developing countries will not be of similar standards which they may be accustomed to at home. We do not provide luxury travel. Those aged between 12 and 17 years are accepted on some Group Tours and most Tailor-made Tours, Expedition Cruises and Extra Services operated by Tucan Travel at our discretion provided they are accompanied by a parent or guardian who accepts full responsibility for them. Some excursions including but not limited to the Inca Trek, Lares Trek and Gorilla Trek have other age limits set by companies or bodies separate to Tucan Travel. The “Adventures for 20’s to 30’s” tours are limited to those aged between 20 and 39 years, however occasionally Tucan Travel may authorise clients outside these ages to travel if they meet certain criteria. Tucan Travel reserves the absolute right to decline a booking at our discretion. Clients agree to accept the authority and decisions of employees, tour leaders and agents whilst on Components with Tucan Travel and our trusted partners. If in the opinion of such person the health or conduct of a client before or after departure appears likely to endanger the safe, comfortable or happy progress of a Component the client may be excluded from all or part of the Package. In the case of ill health, Tucan Travel may make such arrangements as it sees fit and the associated total costs of these arrangements including expenses of Tucan Travel must be paid for by the client. If a client is excluded as above or chooses to leave of their own free will or leaves due to ill health or any other reason there will be no refund of the Package price, Extra Services, surcharges, Local Payment or any local surcharges. All services forming part of the whole Package booked will be forfeit though may be recoverable through the client’s travel insurance in some circumstances. 10. Local Laws

Failure to make such disclosure will constitute a breach of these booking conditions and result in such persons being excluded from the Package in which case all monies paid will be forfeit. See Clause 9 for further information. 12. If you have a Complaint If the client has a complaint about any of the Component arrangements the client must bring it to the attention of the tour leader or other representative of Tucan Travel or its suppliers at the time so that they may use their best endeavours to rectify the situation. It is only if Tucan Travel is made aware of any problems that there will be the opportunity to put things right. Failure to complain on the spot will result in the client’s ability to claim compensation from Tucan Travel or its suppliers being extinguished or at least reduced. Should the problem remain unresolved a complaint must be made in writing to feedback@ tucantravel.com within 28 days of the completion of the Component or all claims for compensation will be forfeit. Tucan Travel will endeavour to acknowledge correspondence within 14 days of receipt, and to provide a detailed response to any letter of complaint within 28 days of receipt. Without prejudice to the foregoing, Tucan Travel shall at all times and in any event not be responsible for any loss or damage suffered by the client arising from an event of Force Majeure or any event or matter which could not reasonably have been foreseen or avoided or arising from fault on the part of any person in the client group or of any person unconnected with the provision of the material component part of the tour. In any event, the Components operated or supplied by Tucan Travel have been designed to provide participants with an exposure to the true nature of the environment visited and therefore involve an element of personal risk and exposure to potential hazards over and above those associated with normal “package travel”. All bookings are accepted on the understanding that such risks and hazards are understood by the client and that they undertake all Components, services, treks, optional excursions and other activities at their own volition. These conditions are issued on the sole responsibility of Tucan Travel, but they are not issued on behalf of, and do not commit, any airline whose flights form part of the arrangements. Where air travel as an inclusive Component of the holiday is provided by a scheduled carrier, the responsibility of that carrier will be limited in accordance with its own conditions of carriage. 14. Optional Excursions and Activities Tucan Travel and our tour leaders and representatives may provide you with information (before departure and/or on tour) about optional activities and excursions which do not form part of your pre-booked Package and which are available in the region you are visiting. Tucan Travel has no involvement in any such activities or excursions which are not run, supervised or controlled in any way by us. They are provided by local operators or other providers who are entirely independent and they may or may not have their own public liability insurance. They do not form any part of your contract with Tucan Travel even where we suggest particular operators / providers and / or assist you in booking such activities or excursions in any way. Where a tour leader or representative collects payment for, attends and / or completes, or otherwise assists in booking any such activity or excursion for you, we and the tour leader or representative act solely as a booking agent for the local operator or provider of the activity or excursion with whom you will have a direct contract. The local operator / provider’s terms and conditions will apply. We cannot accept any liability on any basis in relation to such activities or excursions and the acceptance of liability contained in Clause 13 of our booking conditions will not apply to them. We do not guarantee that any optional activity or excursion mentioned in our brochure, on our website or elsewhere will be available to book during your Component and / or will operate as advertised as these services do not form part of our contract and are not under our control. They may not be available for various reasons. Any prices given in advance are indicative only. We will not be liable if you cannot, for whatever reason, book any such activity or excursion or if the activity or excursion does not operate as advertised. 15. Flight Bookings Tucan Travel will use its best endeavours to ensure that all flight prices and pre-paid taxes are correct at the time that they are quoted. Airlines reserve the right to amend or withdraw fares

without prior notice. The fare can only be guaranteed when the flight booking has been paid for in full by Tucan Travel and a ticket has been issued. Flight bookings are non transferable. Occasionally airlines cancel or reschedule flights and we may need to contact you to advise the changes or make alternative arrangements. This is beyond the control of Tucan Travel and any additional charges must be paid by the client. Flights included as part of a Component are subject to the local carrier conditions of booking and have their own luggage restrictions which may be a maximum of 15kg. Any luggage charges above 20kg must be paid by the client. 16. Brochure / Website / Advertising Material Accuracy The information contained in our brochure, on our website and in other advertising material is believed correct to the best of our knowledge at the time of publication. Errors may occasionally occur and information may subsequently change, therefore please ensure you check all details of your chosen Component (including the price) with us or your travel agent at the time of booking. Your Financial Security a) UK Flight Inclusive Components: Tucan Travel is ATOL Protected, since we hold an Air Travel Organiser’s Licence granted by the Civil Aviation Authority. Our ATOL number is ATOL 6855. This applies to International and/or National flight inclusive Components for clients based in the UK. Many of the flights and flight-inclusive holidays in this brochure and online are financially protected by the ATOL scheme. But ATOL protection does not apply to all holiday and travel services listed in this brochure. Please ask us to confirm what protection may apply to your booking. If you do not receive an ATOL Certificate then the booking will not be ATOL protected. If you do receive an ATOL Certificate but all the parts of your trip are not listed on it, those parts will not be ATOL protected. For more information about financial protection and the ATOL Certificate go to: www.atol.org.uk/ATOLCertificate When you buy an ATOL protected flight or flight inclusive holiday from us you will receive an ATOL Certificate. This lists what is financially protected, where you can get information on what this means for you and who to contact if things go wrong. We, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL Certificate, will provide

you with the services listed on the ATOL Certificate (or a suitable alternative). In some cases, where neither we nor the supplier are able to do so for reasons of insolvency, an alternative ATOL holder may provide you with the services you have bought or a suitable alternative (at no extra cost to you). You agree to accept that in those circumstances the alternative ATOL holder will perform those obligations and you agree to pay any money outstanding to be paid by you under your contract to that alternative ATOL holder. However, you also agree that in some cases it will not be possible to appoint an alternative ATOL holder, in which case you will be entitled to make a claim under the ATOL scheme (or your credit card issuer where applicable). If we, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL certificate, are unable to provide the services listed (or a suitable alternative, through an alternative ATOL holder or otherwise) for reasons of insolvency, the Trustees of the Air Travel Trust may make a payment to (or confer a benefit on) you under the ATOL scheme. You agree that in return for such a payment or benefit you assign absolutely to those Trustees any claims which you have or may have arising out of or relating to the non-provision of the services, including any claim against us, the travel agent (or your credit card issuer where applicable). You also agree that any such claims may be re-assigned to another body, if that other body has paid sums you have claimed under the ATOL scheme. b) Land Only Components i.
