About us
Accommodation We can book any type of accommodation from a 3* hotel to a 5* boutique lodge. We specialise in providing locally owned accommodation but can also book a specific hotel you have your eye on.
Transport Whether you want a private driver or you would like an authentic experience on public transport, we can organise the best way to get you from A to B. Many of our tours will include regional flights to maximise the time spent at each destination but sometimes there may be a need for overnight transport to get you from one region to the next.
Excursions Each itinerary we create is designed specifically for you, based on your personal preferences. This allows you to have that all important flexibility to ensure you get what you want out of your time away. Whether you want a day tour of the highlights of a city or you want to get under its skin, we can fill the days your way.
Meals At Tucan Travel, we believe that experiencing the local food is one of the best ways to really get to know a region, whether that is freshly made empanadas or sizzling steak, straight off the grill. The most iconic of Maya sites, Chichén Itzá is in the Yucatan State. The Castillo step pyramid dominates the site and is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
For a sensory experience head to the Benito Juarez market in Oaxaca. Sample freshly-made tamales, try the local string cheese and if you dare, buy a bag of fried grasshoppers.

Playa del Carmen
Deep in the Chiapas region, the Maya ruins of Palenque are nestled within the jungle. Climb up the stone temples, keeping an eye out for toucans and howler monkeys living in the trees.
It’s not just the sugar-white sand and warm Caribbean sea that lure people to Playa del Carmen. There are many boutique shops to explore, selling anything from artisanal chocolate to excellent folk art.

Sample Itinerary of Mexico I Discover an abundance of ancient ruins, admire spectacular waterfalls and sample huge plates of delicious food on this tailormade tour through Mexico. Day 1 Arrive Mexico City: Welcome to Mexico! Your driver will collect you and transfer you to your hotel. Day 2 Mexico City & Teotihuacan: Enjoy a guided tour of Mexico City and the nearby archaeological site of Teotihuacan. Here you can climb the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon. Day 3 Puebla & Oaxaca: Visit the historical city of Puebla where you can sample the famous mole sauce. Later you will head to Oaxaca where the evening is free for you to explore. Sample Itinerary of Mexico II This adventure combines the very best Mayan ruins of Mexico with famous golden beaches. Discover the ancient civilisations of Chichén Itzá, Palenque and Uxmal, each offering a different perspective on the Maya world. Finish the tour at the beachside paradise of Playa del Carmen, a perfect place for relaxation. Day 1 Arrive Cancún: On arrival, you will be transferred to your beachside hotel in Cancún. Day 2 Chichén Itzá & Mérida : Your guide will take you around the magnificent Mayan city of Chichén Itzá. This afternoon, drive to Mérida, stopping en-route at the beautiful Franciscan monastery in Izamal. Mérida is a beautiful colonial city, with a charming zocalo for you to enjoy. Sample Itinerary of Guatemala I Plunge into a country of colour and culture on this nine day adventure in Guatemala. This terrific introduction to the steamy heart of Central America takes in one of the region’s biggest and best-preserved lost Mayan cities, Tikal, as well as lush rainforest and the jewel of the highlands: Lake Atitlán. Learn about local indigenous traditions, haggle for handcrafts at vibrant markets and explore beautiful colonial towns. Day 1 Arrive Guatemala City: Arriving in Guatemala City you will be collected and transferred to your hotel. Day 2 Guatemala City & Tikal: Enjoy a guided tour of some of the main sights of Guatemala City including the Popol Vuh Museum, the Ixchel Museum, the Relief Map and the Civic Centre. Later you will take a short flight to Flores and be transferred to your hotel in Tikal National Park. Day 3 Tikal National Park: Take a guided tour of the archaeological site of Tikal. The temples rise through the trees, poking through the rainforest canopy, reaching nearly 230 feet. Spot wildlife hiding near the ruins and learn about the ancient rituals that were performed here.

Sample Itinerary of Guatemala II A cultural, comprehensive two-week journey through Guatemala, with a quick visit to Honduras included. Day 1 Arrive Guatemala City: On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel in Antigua. Day 2 Antigua & La Azote Coffee Farm: Enjoy a walking tour of Antigua, visiting the famous Arch, La Merced Church and the colourful market. This afternoon you will tour the La Azote Coffee Farm. Days 3 - 4 Lake Atitlán: Drive to the shores of Lake Atitlán. Enjoy a boat ride across the lake to the nearby villages. You will learn about the traditions of the T’zutujil Maya and discover the art of hand-weaving. Day 5 Chichicastenango Market & Quetzaltenango: Travel to Quetzaltenango. En-route you will stop at the vibrant Chicastenango Market. Here you can see the indigenous vendors as they sell colourful handicrafts. Day 6 Quetzaltenango & Nebaj: Visit Almolonga Market, one of the best vegetable markets in Central America! You will also visit the small village of Zunil. Later you will drive to Nebaj, staying overnight at a remote dairy farm. Day 7 Ixil Triangle: Spend a day exploring three towns known collectively as the Ixil Triangle. Highlights of today include visiting the town of Chajul with its ornate church. You also have

Day 10 Quirigua & Rio Dulce: Returning to Guatemala, drive through colourful villages to the ancient city of Quiriguá, home to fantastic Maya sculptures. Tonight you will stay on the banks of Rio Dulce. Day 11 Livingston & Tikal: Cruise down Rio Dulce to the Garifuna town of Livingston. As you journey down the river, you will spot a number of beautiful birds, so make sure you bring your camera! This afternoon, return to Rio Dulce where you take a bus to Tikal.

15 Days Perfect for Culture
In two weeks, combine some of the most exciting highlights in Guatemala, Honduras and Belize. Compare colonial towns with indigenous villages, haggle in colourful markets and fall in love with the intoxicating Caribbean culture. Day 1 Arrive Guatemala City: Arrive at Guatemala City before being transferred to your hotel in Antigua. Day 2 Antigua: Today you will explore the charming town of Antigua. Admire the colonial architecture and haggle in the market. Day 3 Chichicastenango & Lake Atitlán: Enjoy a scenic drive to Chichicastenango to visit the famous market, used by the local communities that live in the region. Continue to Lake Atitlán and visit the village of Panajachel. Day 4 Lake Atitlán: Take a private boat tour of some of the villages that flank Lake Atitlán. Your guide will explain the customs and traditions of the people that live here and you will see the typical outfits worn in each village. You can also swim at the beach of Playa Dorada or visit the hot springs close to Saint Catarina Palopo. Days 5 - 6 Antigua & Copán: Return to Antigua, stopping en-route at the Maya ruins of Iximche. The next day you will cross into Honduras, staying in the small town of Copán.

Days 8 - 9 Rio Dulce: En-route to Rio Dulce you will stop to visit the famous Quirigua Ruins, home to the largest stone stela in the world. The next day you will take a boat tour down the Rio Dulce, stopping at the lively town of Livingston for a short tour. Admire the Caribbean culture and the colourful buildings found here and try the unique local cuisine. Days 10 - 11 Peten & Tikal: Travel to the region of Peten where you will be staying on the banks of Lake Peten Itza. The next day, visit Tikal, one of the largest Maya sites in existence. Nestled in the jungle, there are also plenty of places to spot wildlife hiding in the trees. Days 12 - 14 San Pedro: Fly to Belize, where the next three nights are spent in the small town of San Pedro on the Ambergris Caye. Ambergris Caye has a number of pristine beaches to enjoy as well as plentiful snorkelling and diving opportunities. You could take a water taxi to the popular island of Caye Caulker or even play golf at the exclusive resort of Caye Chapel.

Sample Itinerary of Costa Rica From thrilling adventure sports to hoards of wildlife, Costa Rica offers something for everyone. Hike around active volcanoes and spot animals hiding in the jungle before relaxing on a deserted beach. With lush green landscapes and steamy rainforests, Costa Rica will captivate you with its beauty. Day 1 Arrive San José: On arrival at the airport your driver will transfer you to your hotel. Days 2 - 3 Tortuguero National Park: Travel to Tortuguero, a small town with Afro-Caribbean roots. It has no cars and is flanked by tropical jungle. This will be your base for visiting Tortuguero National Park, home to river otters, caimans and monkeys. Between July and October you may be lucky enough to catch sea turtles nesting on the beach! Days 4 - 5 Sarapiqui: Continue to Sarapiqui, a major hub for adventure sports from rafting to zip-lining. En-route you stop at Guápiles where you can learn about the chocolate-making process and sample the finest rainforest organic chocolate. The next day you will enjoy a river safari down the Sarapiqui River in search of wildlife.

Days 7 - 8 Monteverde: The mountaintop paradise of Monteverde is nestled between two cloud forest reserves. In Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve you can zip-line through the trees as well as walk along the suspension bridges high above the canopy floor. Days 9 - 10 Rincón de la Vieja: Rincón de la Vieja is one of Costa Rica’s active volcanoes. The national park around it has many hiking trails to explore, boasting spectacular scenic views. You can enjoy bubbling mud pools and steaming geysers, as well as swim in the Blue Lake. Days 11 - 12 Manuel Antonio: Manuel Antonio town is close to the national park of the same name. Relax on the beautiful beaches and search for wildlife that inhabits the area. The forest is home to sloths, rare squirrel monkeys and many colourful crabs. Days 13 - 14 San José: Return to San Jose for a final night before your adventure comes to an end.

Sample Itinerary of Ecuador Enjoy eight days exploring some of Ecuador’s most beautiful regions. Drive along the spectacular ‘Avenue of Volcanoes’ and take the train that wraps around the breathtaking ‘Devil’s Nose’, situated high in the Andes. Combining charming colonial towns, countless wildlife as well as spectacular national parks, this tour offers a diverse view of Ecuador. Day 1 Arrive Quito: On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel in the Old Town. Day 2 Quito: Enjoy a walking tour of the Colonial District of Quito. You will visit some of the most famous sights of the city including the Basilica of Quito, the oldest Church in South America. You can also enjoy panoramic views from ‘Panecillo Mirador’, the most renowned hill of Quito. Day 3 Mindo: Waking early, your guide will take you to the small town of Mindo. Day 7 Cajas National Park & Guayaquil: Enjoy a trip to Cajas National Park, home to wild llamas, hummingbirds, condors and even spectacled bears. Starting in colourful Cartagena, travel from vibrant cities to lush green valleys, meeting the friendliest locals on the way. This whirlwind adventure combines three of Colombia’s most famous cities with rural countryside and charming colonial towns. Day 1 Arrive Cartagena: On arrival at Cartagena airport you will be transferred to your hotel. This afternoon you will enjoy a walking tour of the walled city, including the Inquisition Palace and Santo Domingo Church. Admire the flower-adorned balconies that line the colourful streets, and soak up the vibrant Afro-Caribbean atmosphere. Tonight you could head to Cafe del Mar bar to enjoy cocktails as you watch the sun go down over the ocean. Days 2 - 3 Medellín: Fly to Medellín,known as the “City of Eternal Springs”. Here you will have a half day tour, showcasing how the city has transformed since the 80s. You will visit the Pablo Escobar barrio and travel in the cable-car to enjoy an aerial perspective of the city. This 13 day adventure will lift the lid on Brazil. Relax on Rio’s sun-kissed beaches, experience the power of Iguazú Falls before searching for wildlife deep in the Amazon Jungle. Finish in Salvador, a city bursting to brim with colour and culture.

Day 1 Arrive Rio de Janeiro: On arrival you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel.
Day 9 Amazon Jungle: Waking early, hike through the jungle in time for sunrise. Within the Taricaya Ecological reserve, a tree top walk over a suspension bridge will lead you to the highest canopy platform. Encounter many different wild animals at the animal rescue centre and learn about reforestation projects at the Agroforestry farm. Return to your lodge in an inflatable boat, whilst enjoying the sunset over the river.
Days 2 - 3 Rio de Janeiro: Enjoy a full day exploring Rio’s most famous sights. Start at Tijuca Forest and appreciate some spectacular views from the Chinese View Turret. Continue your adventure at Corcovado Hill to get that all-important photo in front of Christ-theRedeemer. After lunch, ascend Sugar Loaf Mountain. The next day you are free to enjoy Rio’s beautiful beaches. Days 4 - 6 Foz do Iguacu: Fly to Foz do Iguacu, your base for visiting the mighty Iguazú Falls. Prepare to get wet in the next two days as you experience the falls from both the Argentine and Brazilian sides. Take the Jungle Train up to the Devil’s Throat. Immerse yourself in the jungle scenery and wildlife through a guided tour across the catwalks. A boat excursion can bring you even closer to the falls.
Day 10 Salvador: After breakfast you will be returning to Manaus Airport and en-route, you will stop at the Pirarucu Floating Dock to see the huge Pirarucu fish. Later you will fly to your final destination, Salvador. Days 11 - 12 Salvador: The next two days are free to make the most of vibrant Salvador and pick up any last-minute souvenirs.

Day 4 Machu Picchu: Waking early, your private guide will meet you and take you on the bus to Machu Picchu to see the sunrise. After spending a few hours exploring Machu Picchu, you will take the train back to Cuzco.

Sample Itinerary of India Discover India’s exotic state of Rajasthan. This itinerary combines some of India’s most coveted destinations, including Agra’s Taj Mahal. Discover sacred lakes, sandstone cities and small villages on this diverse adventure through India. Day 1 Arrive Delhi: On arrival your driver will transfer you to your hotel. Day 2 Agra: Catch a train to Agra. Today you will tour the incredible Taj Mahal, a labour of love that will take your breath away. After exploring this beautiful monument, the remainder of the day is at your leisure. Days 3 - 4 Jaipur: Travel to the ‘pink city’ of Jaipur. Stop en-route at the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri, a complex of forts and mosques built in sandstone. The next day you have a tour of Jaipur, including the City Palace and the impressive Amber Fort. Day 5 Pushkar: Pushkar is nestled on the sides of Pushkar Lake, considered by Hindus to be very holy. Day 6 Chandelao: Drive to the small village of Chandelao where you can meet the local community and learn about their traditions. 15 Days Day 7 Jodhpur: Continue to the ‘blue city’ of Jodhpur where you can enjoy a tour of Mehrangarh Fort. It offers spectacular views of the city as well as a fascinating museum for you to discover. Days 8 - 10 Jaisalmer & Bhenswara: Drive to Jaisalmer. You have two days to wander the cobbled streets located inside the walls of a fortress. It has a medieval atmosphere and it’s a perfect place to admire beautiful architecture. You will continue your journey, getting off the tourist trail as you discover the village of Bhenswara. Here you can opt to go on a leopard safari. Days 11 - 12 Ranakpur & Udaipur: Travel to Udaipur, first stopping in the village of Ranakpur, home to a complex of carved temples. Continue to the white-washed city of Udaipur, extremely picturesque with winding alleys for you to explore. Enjoy a tour of the city, including superb views over Lake Pichola. Days 13 - 14 Delhi: Spend a morning relaxing in Udaipur before taking a sleeper train to Delhi. Spend the next day doing some last minute shopping in the vibrant markets!
