NICARAGUA
ADIĂ“S is an artist resisdency during the month of February in which participants escape their winter routine for tropical destinations with the intent to create new work and invent new modes of creation.
Artists share concepts and techniques to push each other into new areas of visual thinking and focus on creative exploration with the goal of creating new work.

For the first edition of ADIĂ“S (2015) our destination was the tropical location of Nicaragua. Drawing inspiration from the ocean, the jungle, and the local culture - participating artists were invited to create anything they are inspired to make. Participants created films, photographs, paintings, illustrations, and sculpture. The resulting artwork is being presented together with a gallery presentation and a printed book.

ADIĂ“S 2015 consisted of 12 members who spent the time filming, surfing, drawing, photographing, bouncing ideas of each other, exploring the rocky cliffs and dense of the Tola region. Each member encouraged to work through new artistic ideas and assisting each other to create with encouragement,
critique, and collaboration. Each member brought along two inspirational books to share with the group. This created a mini art library that sparked ideas and converstations about the process and reasons for making things.

COLE BARASH Cole Barash is a photographer who works primaraly in snow and surf culture. He was featured as one of PDN’s top 30 upcoming photographers (2009). Cole’s work has been featured in group shows and a solo exhibition “Cold Emotions” (2009) at Montanero Gallery in New Port, RI. Cole’s first monograph book, Talk Story, and accompanying exhibition opened at Brooklyn’s Picture Farm Gallery in July of 2014 with a subsequent exhibition at Venice Arts Gallery in LA. Cole’s images have been featured in numerous publications including, Rolling Stone, ESPN Magazine, Relapse Mag, and No Thoughts, among many others.

KEVIN DEVINE Kevin Devine is a multimedia artist and photographer. He has taken part in numerous group shows and published in publications internationally including Arkitip, Quest, Graphic, NeoMu, Print & How. Kevin is partner and creative director at FAREWELL NY.

DAN FUNDERBURG Dan Funderburgh is a Brooklyn-based illustrator, artist, and wallpaper designer whose creations are rooted in the world of decorative arts. After moving to New York in 2001, Dan established a partnership with the now Brooklyn-based wallpaper studio Flavor Paper, where his designs are hand-screen printed. The wallpapers have been featured at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair and at Pulse Miami, and are a part of the permanent collection of the Cooper-Hewitt and Brooklyn Museum.

ALEX GOLDSTEIN Alex Goldstein is a musician and art director from New York City. He plays bass in the band Shalom and works as a Contributing Senior Designer at T: The New York Times Style Magazine.

BRANDON KUZMA Kuzma is a type of puffer fish originating from the Czech Republic. These puffer fish are unique in that they love to surf on top of waves rather than just splashing and relaxing under the water with the other fish. Their diet consists of mainly organic sea vegetables.

BRIAN MACKIN Brian is co-owner and creative director / designer at FAREWELL NY and part time artist with a strong emphasis on typography. He works across a range of mediums from pen and pink to collage and photography. His personal work explores dynamics of power structures and cultural relativism.

TUCKER PHILLIPS Tucker Phillips work focuses on memory and emotion. He achieves this through video, photo, sculpture, and publication design.
