INTRODUCTION FROM THE HEADMISTRESS

HOW YOU CAN HELP

To enable Tudor Hall to make a step change in our facilities and enhance the quality of education which our girls deserve and their parents expect, we need to raise a proportion of the cost of these projects through donations. This next phase carries a build cost of £3.6million, of which we will be seeking to raise £1.2million from friends and supporters of the school.

We have been hugely encouraged by the early support we have received. Every gift, large or small, takes us another step closer to reaching our goal.

Very few English boarding schools for girls can trace their origins as far back as 1850, when Tudor Hall was founded. Although the school could never have been founded with its future mapped out, it has always been guided by people of vision. From the first, it offered a stimulating and challenging education, and this farsighted interest in girls’ education remains the cornerstone of Tudor’s ethos to this day.

MAKING A GIFT Every gift to Tudor Hall is important. By working together we can achieve extraordinary results, providing the facilities and education that all Tudorians deserve. You can donate by cheque, CAF voucher, bank transfer or standing order.

If you are a UK taxpayer, please sign the Gift Aid Declaration on our giving form allowing us to reclaim tax on your gift. For further information on the project, or on other ways to donate including gifts of stocks and shares or leaving a legacy, please contact:

The school has always aimed to be forwardthinking and strategic in its approach, and now is not the time to take a complacent view of the future. Singlesex independent girls’ boarding schools are under great pressure, declining overall both in numbers of boarders and in the total number of schools.

Tudor Hall is a wellrun and prudently financed school. It has an extraordinary history and truly wonderful alumnae.

“…a Tudor Hall education enhances the lives of its pupils so that they, as alumnae, can enhance the lives of others.” However, we have no endowment and therefore are unable to compete with the facilities that are on offer at equivalent established boys’ schools with large endowments or similar backing. All development at Tudor Hall must be financed out of the income of the school and with the support of the community.

The Governors and I are committed to Tudor Hall’s future as a full boarding school, where the education reaches beyond the classroom and where each girl is supported to grow and develop as an individual. The plan for that future fundamentally concerns how a Tudor Hall education enhances the lives of its pupils so that they, as alumnae, can enhance the lives of others. It is about the continuing ability to attract the right girls and ensure a superb education with the best facilities possible. We must invest further in order to preserve and develop the rich and diverse experience of life at Tudor.

AN APPEAL FOR THE NEW TEACHING CENTRE

THE PROJECT Although we are committed to remaining a relatively small school, Tudor Hall has grown by 60 pupils over the last eight years and this has allowed us to begin improving the facilities. In the last ten years we have invested £13.4 million from school income, which has been a huge benefit to all our pupils. However, despite this programme of works, we still have school buildings which fall below the standard needed to

inspire both staff and pupils to push themselves to the highest levels. Following our successful redevelopment of the old squash courts into a drama studio, the next phase of development at Tudor will be the construction of a new teaching centre, encompassing English and mathematics teaching spaces and specialist classrooms for the creative arts.

SPACE FOR CREATIVITY Art and textiles are very popular and successful at Tudor, with several girls leaving at 18 to pursue related courses at the best institutions, including the Parsons School of Design in New York. Currently, textiles is taught in a portable building and a very small classroom with inadequate storage. There is no space to display girls’ work and limited access to computers for design purposes.

We plan to break ground in the summer of 2017 and complete in time for September 2018. We are asking you to support us by making a donation to help us secure the long term future of the school and to ensure Tudor Hall’s continuity as a model of all that is best in an independent, boarding, girls’ education.

Light modern classrooms with sufficient space in which to work will inspire the girls to greater achievement. Departmental offices will similarly inspire our teachers and allow greater collaboration across departments.

SKILLS FOR LIFE Home economics is popular at GCSE, and many of the Sixth Form pursue the Leiths Introductory Certificate in Food and Wine, introducing them to a wide range of professional practical cooking methods and the associated theory. The Leiths course provides our girls with a vital skill for independent living which, should they so choose, could open

up areas of possible future employment. Home economics is also extraordinarily popular as an extra-curricular activity for all age groups. The current teaching space takes a maximum of 12 pupils. A spacious, modern and professional kitchen with space for at least 20 girls will support and encourage our girls in their endeavours.

longer required; this will be replaced with a suite of Apple Macs and a studio. Our design for new purpose-built facilities will provide the nurturing creative space to encourage Tudor girls to new and greater artistic heights.
