Welcome to Tudor Hall
‘An outstanding and modern girls’ boarding school.’ Independent Schools Inspectorate Tudor Hall is a flourishing girls’ boarding school situated on the edge of the Cotswolds but conveniently near the M40, rail links and international airports. The school has a lively and supportive atmosphere, high academic standards, and an absorbing and challenging extra-curricular programme. Girls are encouraged to live out the school motto, Habeo ut Dem: I have that I may give. A strong sense of community is Tudor’s hallmark, where each girl is valued for herself and her contribution.

Tudorians
‘ Tudor Hall is interested in the girls and their individual and personal development.’ Tudor Hall parent Tudorians are multi-talented. All the girls have their own strengths and the teaching staff work to help them to succeed both in and out of the classroom. The highest standards in all areas of school life are expected. Busy, purposeful and involved, the girls are encouraged to make the most of all the opportunities that Tudor life offers. There is no such thing as a typical Tudorian: our girls are individual and distinctive. We are interested in all sorts of girls with their own different talents. All applicants are interviewed by the Headmistress and are seen as individuals from that moment on. We are looking for girls who will add to our vibrant and special community. Tudorians are bright and assured, intellectually curious, courteous and well prepared to make a valuable contribution in their chosen field. Tudor Hall encourages and nurtures enthusiasm by providing numerous opportunities for girls to research interests and issues for themselves and develop their own ideas. Tudorians are represented in all sorts of professions, from careers in the city to setting up their own businesses. Tudorians are proud of their school community and value their place within it.

Intellectually curious ‘ My parents tell me that it's no surprise I took all the argumentative subjects for A Level: Philosophy and Ethics, Politics, English and History of Art. That's what is good about Tudor; it actively encourages discussion.’ Tudor Hall pupil Talented, knowledgeable and well-resourced, the teaching staff aim to share their passion for their subject with the girls. Because she is well known by her teachers, each girl is supported and encouraged to reach her own potential. Lessons are planned to develop individual talent through questioning, in-depth exploration and investigation. Lessons, discussions, presentations and outside speakers broaden the outlook and stimulate the girls to research and question the ever-changing information and ideas in our modern world. The pursuit of their studies from the first year to the Upper Sixth prepares our girls fully for a wide variety of courses at the best universities in the country. Tudorians take the ethos of their school with them when they leave us. They become wholeheartedly involved in all that university life has to offer, and achieve consistently excellent degree results.

Independent learners ‘ I've deliberately chosen subjects that allow me to study outside the curriculum and Tudor is a great advocate of that. Tudor Hall pupil From their arrival, girls are encouraged to study independently, form their own opinions and develop the skills necessary to achieve excellence within the school and beyond. Projects create opportunities to plan, evaluate information and learn from the experience. Teachers use wide-ranging techniques to develop thinking skills and initiative and to allow girls to discover the joy of learning and to foster the ability to make things happen for themselves. The highest levels of academic success are achieved through pupils taking responsibility for their own learning. Reading and research are an integral part of the learning process for pupils of all ages. The secure environment encourages girls to take risks in their learning in order to learn to manage the consequences, and to build the self discipline and determination which will stand them in good stead at university and beyond.

Creatively engaged
‘ The creativity at Tudor Hall shines through from the first year pupils right up to the Upper Sixth.’ Tudor Hall parent
Creativity is not an add-on or afterthought but a vital and fully integrated part of everyday life. We inspire our girls to discover and cultivate a wide range of talents. Music, art, dance and drama are all genuine strengths which add much to the school experience both for the participants and for the community as a whole. The curriculum has been devised to give girls an opportunity to explore all aspects of their creative abilities, some of which may yet be undiscovered when they arrive at the school. Talents unearthed at this stage can be honed in the more formal setting of GCSE and beyond. The broad range of extra-curricular activities allows pupils to continue to develop their interest in the creative arts whatever their chosen GCSE or A level courses. Senior girls form a significant part of all major school ensembles providing excellent role models for younger pupils.

Team players
‘ All the girls get a go in a team, whether it be sport or something else; we like that.’ Tudor Hall parent Learning to enjoy being an effective member of a team is a vital life skill and can be a source of great satisfaction in all areas of life. Tudor offers a diverse range of opportunities for girls to work together and discover the success to which cooperation and teamwork can lead. We provide chances for girls to learn for themselves the importance of effort and persistence. The extensive programme of sport is a major part of school life. We are proud of our top athletes, for whom we have excellent training and coaching provision; but whatever their natural level of ability, we ensure that there are opportunities for everyone to become actively involved. The extra-curricular activities such as music ensembles, debating, Young Enterprise, dance groups and drama productions provide everyone with opportunities for working collaboratively.

Growing through challenge
‘ I have challenged myself, on many different trips – to Costa Rica, India and Uganda. They were amazing experiences that were great fun and have changed what I want to do in the future by opening my eyes to so many things around the world.’ Tudor Hall pupil
The opportunity to develop personal strengths through challenge is an important part of life at Tudor. Our teachers are skilled at creating appropriately demanding elements in lessons as well as through the outdoor pursuits we offer. Sharing challenging experiences allows girls to discover key life skills. They learn to rejoice in success, their own and others’, and to support one another. Physical challenges undertaken with the guidance of sympathetic and well-qualified leaders inspire girls to brave situations outside the comfortably familiar. The skills and strategies developed as a result are transferable, engendering self-confidence and self-reliance. At Tudor, residential programmes, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and overseas expeditions are all part of school life.

A strong community
‘ The size allows individual attention, but it’s a proper community, not too small and claustrophobic.’ Tudor Hall parent Tudor is a strong community evident to all. Outstanding pastoral care underpins everything we do. The staff take the time to get to know the girls really well and the sense of co-operation between teachers, housemistresses, tutors, support staff and girls is the foundation for everything at Tudor. We communicate regularly with girls' parents to ensure that they are always aware of what is happening and feel that they are part of the school community. The Tudor community is one which values, supports and sustains all its members. The school’s Anglican ethos is evident as a set of values which direct the actions of everyone whatever their background or faith. The girls are caring and supportive of one another; school becomes a second family.

Reaching out
‘ These opportunities give a small chance to make a difference to the lives of others.’ Tudor Hall pupil Pupils of all ages work within the wider community. Tudor is involved in projects in the local community and overseas. Girls are encouraged to give their time to help others alongside the wide-ranging charity fundraising. We have long-term and mutually beneficial links with schools in India, Africa and South America giving the girls a wider understanding of the world beyond. Through their involvement with these projects, the girls develop an awareness of external issues and a sense of responsibility not only for themselves but for others. They enjoy the opportunity to make their own contribution.
Work in the local community is equally important to us and our girls work with children from local primary schools on many different occasions such as the annual science and multi-activity days.

Friends for life ‘ Friendships formed at Tudor know no bounds; they transcend all ages and are very special. The bonds established at school are so strong, they are the envy of many others who were not at Tudor.’ Old Tudorian Being a pupil in a relatively small school fosters enduring friendships. Working and living together creates both the time and the opportunity to truly bond. The combined effect of boarding in year groups and belonging to competitive houses that include girls of all ages, promotes a true sense of camaraderie within year groups but also friendships that extend through the age range. Old Tudorians agree that friends made at Tudor are friends for life and our lively Old Girls’ Association keeps us all in touch through the years. Tudorians remain close once they leave school – sharing flats and houses, starting businesses together, being godparents for each other’s children. These friendships provide a secure thread throughout life. The Tudor ethos shows girls the value of being prepared to invest time and effort in nurturing friendships.

Invitation to visit
‘ I’m 100% happy – it’s an absolute gem of a school.’ Tudor Hall parent Tudor Hall is unique in so many ways. It is a small, vibrant, full boarding and day school which definitely ‘punches above its weight’. The academic results are excellent, produced by young women who have been selected for places at the school not just on their academic ability but also on their personal strengths. The girls are not of any one type and this creates a community where everybody recognises and celebrates its members as individuals. Staff work with pupils to ensure that each one is encouraged and supported to do her best. The girls are ambitious and determined to make the most of the many opportunities in school and beyond.
As Headmistress, I never cease to be amazed by the achievements of our pupils in all areas of school life but what still impresses me on a daily basis is how they genuinely care not just for the community but those in the outside world. Do come and see us, we would be delighted to welcome you. A visit will help you decide whether Tudor is the place for your daughter.
