UNDER-SECTION “The future has an ancient heart.” The context of design is combining old new/ modern and ancient/ Matera and Sassi/ two parts of project area. With this context, region’s masses, roads, stairs, history have analyzed. The historical datas like cave, typologys, structural elements, stairs make a way for design. To put a contemporary building firstly felt the “spirit of the place”. The cave is identified with underground/breaking the ground. The parts of project area are combined underground with stairs. The top road that splits the area two is also split two. One underground, the other on gorund. The exhibition halls are placed underground to exhibit and feel ancient spirit. The halls reachs to ground on the other plot. The cafe, laboratories and offices are placed on ground level to create social and alive spaces on the street. Auditorium and foyer are placed to top level.

When foyer’s is underground stairs, auditorium has one of the best Sassi’s vistas. The visitors can experience this view as a background when a conference, dance, music, etc. is performing. The vista is like a scene on the exhibition. The city is a museum itself. The museum is also a city inside.

Merzifon cultural center project area is in a physical and also visual relationship with Cumhuriyet Square that is the center of district. The main idea of the design is continuity of density on ground level. The commercial promenades should be continue through the historical streets and should be entegrated with the building. Thus, commercial areas of project are placed on ground level with street context. The local shops can be placed on ground level and the rest also on the first level. These two commercial level are connected with stairs from the in and out streets. Office areas are placed on second and third level for the separation from the common use. The cultural areas have another entrance hall from all the other funcitons. This area has an courtyard that can be seen and reach from the street. The cafes, music and paint workshops can be reach easily to the courtyard.

Unkapanı is a district in Historical Peninsula, between Atatürk Bridge and Eminönü. There are also early republic buildings with several historical ones. İMÇ is one of the most important building. It’s designed towards to Süleymaniye by Doğan Tekeli. All the passages, entrances etc. in line with mosque. However, the passages aren’t use effectivly nowadays. The purpose of this project is to revive the visual and physical relations between to most important building in area.

Behind the İMÇ, there is part that the poor people and refugees live in. Also, there is a mill ruins and now it is using as a carpark. In the masterplan, first proposal to restorate and reuse this mill ruins and area as an open market. It will make first connection between two sides of İMÇ. Second connection is made by to open pedestrian way to the one of the main roads. Third connection in the main entrance of İMÇ, is a pedestrian way that passing through the project area. The last conneciton is arriving to green area near the historic bath. Education and community center is choosed for project.Because there is lack of education in the residential part both adult and children. Beside education classrooms, theatre, workshop, cafe and exhibition area is designed for cultural development.
