byzantium museum I historical penninsula, istanbul
Kronopolis, is a Byzantium Museum project in Historical Penninsula of Istanbul. The museum is a complex which is spread on penninsula as a main museum building and 4 pavillion(from ahırkapı to kumkapı). The complex aims to make visitors feel Istanbul and its historical background by walking them around these 5 points in mentioned districts.

The first step was to interiorise the city’s soul. Therefore, some trips were arranged from Sarayburnu to Edirnekapı under the g As shown in the first page of this part, there is a large scale map which shows these trips with some important points from By of İstanbul.
While we close to the choosen project site, an other map shows us more detailed important points near the site where is arou (Sergius & Bacchus) and Sphendone. After some analysis a large scale museum complex idea shaped. Subsequent to make peo some stops (points) of the complex determined.

The word of “kronos” came from the “chronos” which means “time”. Khronos is the Gaia’s last titan who had created the time and travels in time in Greek mytholog “polis “ also means that city in Greek. So, “kronopolis” is the city of time.

Also, as seen right side, building is placed on the railway at a admissible high. In the galleries,it is allowed to watch train and Hagia Sophia and Sultan Ahmet Mosque with other Ottoman houses. There is also a special ramp behind the walls of Bukoleon Palace gives opportunity to watch the sea from the imperial’s eyes. And takes people to the temporary gallery part. This part has its own administration, cafe and ther service units.
permanent gallery part
2nd stop is on back of the Bukoleon Palace Walls and it’s original site as the place of main museum in Kronopolis. In this site, there is so many important datas, for instance the site is devided with the railway (sirkeci- halkalĹ), Byzantium Palace ruins, ottoman houses, Bosphorus view and in the back Hagia Sophia and Sultan Ahmet Mosque are placed. Museum building is divided two part according to the suitable areas in the site to be settled. This dividing fulfilled to separate the museum as permanent and temporary galleries and other service areas. As seen left, 1st circulation start from the main stairs in Kennedy Street to direct people Sphendone pavillion. All the exhibition units are fly and the other services like administration, library, cafe, oditorium are settled on the ground. Exhibitions placed accordingly khronogically and from bottom to top. When you start your tour, units take you to top and direct with the ramp behind the wall to the temporary gallery part. And then going down to continue the trip by going the 3rd stop which is Sphendone pavillion.

permanent gallery part
From the Kennedy Street there is an entrance which is emphasized with a remarkable stair on the wall. And as seen, the train can continue its servicing like all the other things in sites which were not demolished for this project.
There is a socializing area which shown with green circle. This area is on the ground and intersection of all units like cafe, oditorium, entrance, library. In this area has the opportunity to feel old palace with its remaining walls and some mosaics under the ground which people can walk on it and see.
temporary gallery part
In that part it is seen that a ramp provide transition to the temporary part. This ramp goes accordindly to the wall’s ups and down; in some parts goes down to catch a view from imperial’s eyes or rise to observation point to have a rest and watch sea with panoramic İstanbul view.
There is also a socializing and gathering point in front of the cafe and ateliers near the railway. A last stop in the museum before leaving Bukoleon Palace..

a2018 proposal, masterplan scale I prague 7, holesovice a proposal masterplan scale I prague 7, holesovice
this project, fundamentally aims to make better the holesovice where is located in prague 7. but what is better? for who? actually, thinking about ''good'' is not an easy matter. it is a very deep issue and vary from person to person. then, how can we make ''the better''? in the nature of architecture, generally, "better" means that making the life easier and livable for the habitants. so, here, this project tries to bring out into the open the potential of "holesovice" has and encourage the people to use it more.
THE WAY TO THE RIVER
12
holesovice is located in prague 7 where is geologically the penninsula of prague.
holesovice is surrounded by the river but residents do not realize this value of the site. there are so many roads which opens to the water. we can make this roads more usable and livible with water. people also can use the dok and feel the history of holesovice. we can steer people to the water by architectural arrangements.
holesovice is also located between the vltava river and old train rails where is between bubny and

culture neglected parking green
at that point because of the retaining wall, people cannot access the water behind it. so, this part is designed to be more open and well kept to atract people to use and be there.
at "b" point because of a refuge the reaching to the water bacome a trouble. here, the solution would be the arranging of that refuge. additionally, a structure is designed top of the river as a bridge, to make easier reaching to the other side of the river and penninsula. functionally, this bridge will serve as a socializing place with a little library, reading and resting areas also. and in there, people also can observe the old dok and river.
this part of holesovice is quite reachable and people can easly see the water.
at "d" point people miss a great part and view of old dok. again here, with the same approach a flying thing is designed to attract people to use that rote and reach old dok. structure meet with the people from the beginning of the street and with a bridge; takes them to the top of the structure to provide an observation point for them in the building, there might be a cafe, or some places for temporary exhibitions.
''e'' point glances off the water. it is a bridge like a highway. in that point there is already no problem to solve it.
14
"g" point is barriered with so many elements here like the retaining wall, trees, the old silo. at that point, the design approach is creating something as a bridge to jump on the trees without damaging them. also, there is a silo which shows the historical background of holesovice. so, this value should be used as an important element of the project. in that way, a staircase placed to take people to the restorated old silo and provide them a nice view of river. the little building top of the silos is serve as a cafe and resting area with balconies for observation. also, there can be some exhibitions or installations in the silos and people can go down to the park from the staircases between the silos.
"h" point is also reachable but not noticable. the solution is bringing the water to a visible place by channelling and creating pavement which people can walk around it. some stairs are added with ramps to make that greenery area more accessible. also a small bridge is added to band the 2 divided sides. and finally people can reach to the source of water. the river!
"f" point is barriered with retainning wall in front of the nice park next to river. to solve the reaching problem here, in some parts, wall is opened, some stairs and ramps are added to make that greenery area more accessible for everyone.
"i" point is barriered here because of the retainning wall again. as a sollution, the part which is across to the street is opened and a ramp placed to make easier the access to the park river side.

social housing I acıbadem
This is a social housing project for Yıldız Technical University staff members and other guests in Acıbadem, Istanbul. The project basically aims not to destroy greenery area in the site but to save them and try to increase its area without increasing the height of the building. Additionally find a solution to save and get into touch with an old building in the site. Context, environmental factors, are quite important issues for the project. Additionally; sustainability, respectfull attitude are the main supports. The building is sliding like a meander in the site, so i gave the name of the building as Maiandros who is a river god in Greek mythology, patron deity of the Meander river (Büyük Menderes River). The shape of the building is coming from the try for saving the considerable green texture in the site.
16
The concept of the project takes shape from preserving the considerable green texture which must dominate the architecture through nature and sustainability. Accordingly, the building turn and meander around this green that also extend the surface area with the same time.
There are a few transitions between two sides of the terrain that we can describe these two sides as inside and outside, at the place where is like a valley and also other places as it’sseen on the layout. The huge openings provide transition between two sides of land and curvings create surprizal backyards where supports social relations for habitants. A road continues that rises, descends on the terrain and form as ramps, according to the topography by thrusting through at these transition regions. The housing mass takes place on this social mass. There is a seperation, an interim, between these two mass which creates an illusion like the housing mass is flying.
The main mass(housing) was designed like one side is transparent and the other side is solid by the conditions of sun, wind, noise and view. This mass settle on the terrain by meandering around the existing threes. This meanders creates social areas like courtyards. The gridal construction is served as transition module which was created from thin white steel and glass is mounted to the housing mass as being parallel to it. This construction is covered by a thin steel mesh by creating openings and covered by ivy at some places of it. Thus we are creating a sheltered place. Beside, it can be seen from outside as moving silhouettes behind the mesh.
17
Project is firstly devided into 2 types as long term usage which contains 1+1, 2+1 and 3+1 flats and short term usage which will be used as 1+0 and hotel rooms. So, the main approach was the divide units by their function. Long term usage units placed on the large part of the terrain.
The entrances are from AcÄąbadem, Arma and BetĂźl street. The vehicle entrance is from Betul street to the parking area. The 2 storey parking area continue under 5th level on the trace of social zone. The mass of social zone takes shape according to the topography and thus it creates also a base for the housing mass. This zone provide service as sport center, cafe and restaurant, common socializing areas, kindergarden, library and several ateliers.
18
Here, we can see the plan of base where is the heart of this social housing project. This part is serve as a socializing and gathering area. As written, is this floor there is sport center, cafe/ restaurant, kinder garden and a craft and design center. The form and height of this floor shape according to the slope of site. In some parts, especially at the middle; this continious form is opened to allow circulation between right and left sides of the iste.
This floor plan is the same with other 6 floors. The diameter of the circles which constitute the forecourts, determines the type of units like 1+1, 2+1 etc. The blue marked units are placed at the 1st floor and designed for disabled people. Except this floor it does not the same in the other floors. As mentioned before,in this one side building, the orientation of units and corridor are determined according to the forecourts and other important views in site.

industrial museum I kartal
a building. like a machine. which is the reencarnation. of an industrial soul. appears. into time. as a museum. to show. its previous life.
“THEN ONE DAY... HE WASN’T IN HIS TIME AT ALL...” Everything has a soul, I believe, live or lifeless; place, space, time, thing, etc... Because everything has an effect on us, on the other things and this can change our psychology and environment- emotionally. This soul can change, effect and influence, in time. And even, if you believe, it can reencarne! The project site I’ve worked on, was a cement factory and this zone had an industrial soul. But in time the site destroyed completely. The soul of the factory would never gone, it has just transformed to a museum and now it has a new apperience that reflects its previous life!
23
The project site is comprised from quarry to Yunus Cement Factory, so all the researches are shaped around these areas. Here is some analysis which shows the increase of residential area’s density and decrease of factories and the situation of quarry in Kartal where was one of the most important district for industrial devolopments in Istanbul. We can easyly see that, in time, Kartal transformed to a residential district and factories had been closed by one by. Yunus Cement Factory is also one of them which was the starter, an important actor in Kartal and its transformation. As seen below, access to the site is not so bad. But there is not an efficiant access from quarry (where is near metro) to cement factory which is had to be thought on.
When cement factory settled its territory, stones were carried from quarry to site by telfers which is an important revival element for Palingenesis. This matter is used for carring visitors from metro to museum by providing them a nice site view which make people feel Kartal’s industrial soul while they are flying above on Sanayi Street where is the starter and very important street in Kartal’s industrial history. This is a nice meeting and familiarization for people before coming the ghost museum.
According to researches on the history of Yunus Cement Factory and site, we can reach the information about usage of trains for carring materials in the site. They were using trains inside the site, so this was an other revival element for Palingenesis which contemplated and redesigned for transportation in this huge site between museum, pavilions and social hub. In that way, a railway designed with its stops. Here is the stops as seen right; 1. stop is main museum, 2nd is a permanent gallery for huge machines from old factory, 3rd stop is at the installation which is maden by wires to emphisize and adumbrate the idea of “existence and absence”. and finally the 4th stop is at the social hub where consist of ateliers, ibrary, cafe/restraurant and play grounds for kids and etc. In this museum complex, the ghost buildings designed according to a silhouette and aierial photo by using wires to catch the idea that they are not live in this time anymore; they were, even they are, but not decisive like before.
25
Here is some circulation scenaries in the site, according to vehichle and pedestrian entrances and the visitors who comes by the telfer.
As seen right, slope is pretty much that had to be consider in design process.
Also, the orientation lines of the roads is seen at the 2nd analysis. Orientation of the buildings in site, designed according to this issue.
The structural system, designed with steel columns and truss beams to span huge openings. Also, slabs are hanging from the truss beams with steel cables. As material choose, corten steel is prefered at the facades of main museum building. For the opennings, clear glass is considered. For the other pavillions steel wires are prefered. Inside the wires, there is some buildings which are beared rainforced concrete and naked at the facades.

Homer, in the iliad, describes the approach of Archilles toward Troy in these words:
Sirius rises late in the dark, liquid sky On summer nights, star of stars, Orion’s Dog they call it, brightest Of all, but an evil portent, bringing heat And fevers to suffering humanity. Sirius is a constellation consist of a couple of star which have the most brillant view from the world in 88 constellations of Milky Way.
28
SIRIUS is a constellation which is consist of a couple of start and have most brillant view from the world. Project is located in İstanbul, Beyoğlu and the corner of Sıraselviler street as a ‘stıdent social center’. The purpose os the project is providing opportunity to meet for students from different branches. Therefore the socializing axes, connection of modules and accessibility is crucial as fınctional. Beside, in design process, the 15m slope, 3 streets of 3 sides, wind directions is considered. With all that, the design purpose was shaped around connection with context, spreading the toppgraphy and usage of terrain effectively. With the cocnlusion product, the project was ready to have name of “SIRIUS of 88”
Accesibility is one of the most important thing in this project. As seen right, analysis shows the place of the area where is placed in the middle of most popular towns in that part of Istanbul in addition in that areas there are the campuses of some universities and so much high schools and primary schools. Transportation is also quiet nice; there is lots of options like tram, metro, buses, finiculer etc. Beside, the building provide accesibilty for disabled people even the buiding has flying floors and different layers inside and in site. There is so many ramps for it and also lifts. In design process, the height of the building is decided as analyzing the surrounded buildings which is important for the site view.

The proposal begins with an injection of urban landscape along the ridge of the site. This injection exists as a platform on which ne ram which will stimulate different facets of society to interact and engage with each other. Focusing of the settlement is done on a rest of the site for recreational purposes also allows for visitors to appreciate and explore a dramatic landscape that is littered with
1. Density + Diversity An urban plateau is inserted into the corner of the site. This location is ideal for settlement due to the relatively flat topography which enhances walkability of the project. While within these places, there will be unobstructed views of the Marmara Sea without having to peak over the treeline to see it.
2. Access to the Plateau We enhanced the circulation to the site by and potential housing developments that to the city is strengthened by adding an ac necting a back road directly to an importa cable car link is proposed to link potential
ew visitors can begin to interact with the site. The urban landscape is characterized by a dense and diverse arrangement of progan area of the hill with minimum tree coverage, thus preserving the ecological character of the hill as much as possible. Freeing the h history and ruin.
y creating axial bonds between the plateau border it. The relationship of the plateau ccess road to the road network and conant roundabout at the bottom of the hill. A pedestrian traffic from the city.
3. Zoning in Loops The experiences on the hill are layered by creating loops that overlap and intersect with each other. This is done to establish a zoning hierarchy which visitors can travel through. The layers are arranged based on topographic accessibility and their functions. Flatter areas tend to have more public functions, while steep areas are dedicated singular paths. 35
Cultural Enclave The plateau can be used as an organizational strategy for any program that is situated around it. 3 major programmatic elements are placed along the edges, with 3 minor complementary program attached to them. Each of these pairs are connected by their functional relationships, creating a circulation loop through them.
Landscape Concept Landscape consists of overlapping layers strung out around the hill. Firstly, there is an active loop that provides outdoor activity functions such as an amphitheater and a botanical garden, which connects all other layers of landscape to it. For more intimate experience, a Nature Path meanders throughout the pre-existing landscape, which act as buffer zones from the highway. The third is a Productive Landscape that consists mainly of olive and fig trees along open ridge of the hill. Lastly, there is a historical zone that activates the stone ruins on the site by placing within them pavilions, workshops, and exhibition spaces that engages both visitors and people working at the design institute as well. The historical zone is connected to the site by using a passive gradient stonescape. Building / Architecture Analysis Each major function follows a couple of basic design rules that start at the masterplan level and finish at the human scale. The forms generated for the architecture is based on shifting masses that slide along the periphery of the urban plateau. Each form consists of varying horizontal bars, with a vertical bar at the end of each building. The bar gives hierarchy and directionality to the overall massing, but also makes the overall project more visible from the city center. Paired next to these shifting blocks exists a free flowing connective tissue that blends bridges, canopies, and buildings into a single form. This fluid structure gives the masterplan a contrasting element to the boxes on the plateau, while also connecting key points of the site both physically and visually.
Pavilions and Workshops In between the pedestrian traffic and the major functions exist smaller and more flexible program such as retail, design workshops, and exhibition spaces. This is done to create places at the human scale, adding diversity to the plateau in both physicality and in function. In between spaces become the meeting areas for the enclave.
Connective Tissue As an alternative to the in between spaces on the plateau, a connective tissue is developed to create more direct modes of access from inside and outside the park. The tissue is flexible as it combines canopies, walkable roofs, and anchor programs within one dynamic form. This is also done to counteract the rigidity that exists on the plateau.

This is a fence but maybe it’s not. There is an uncertainity about the term of being. But we know that there is something which is attracting people. We’re calling it as “no fence”!
The DOK is used by the locals as a resting place; they organize some music events, arbeque parties, flea market and so on. There is a border between the DOK and river side. The place we choose is used as a door which is generally closed. The aim was that to specify the borders while we’re inviting people as the same time. So, we choose this part to catch the idea by motions and noises of “no fence” which come with the wind of river. In design process, we discussed some concepts as beeing reflective, permeable, transition, gradient etc. We decided the material (galvanized steel) and pattern according to conclusion of this debate.
“No Fence is located in DOK which is a part of the old port of Ghent city in Belgium.
The pattern is goimg as gradient according to the sight beyond the fence like;
