Estate of K. D. Ruppert, MD
Karl Donald Ruppert, MD was a 1957 graduate of Tulane University School of Medicine. He worked as a fireman on a steam train to support his education while attending Tulane.
After enlisting in the Army and completing his residency in Monterey, California, he was stationed in Southeast Asia. Dr. Ruppert eventually moved to Olympia, Washington and began a general surgery practice before retiring in 1991. He operated the first fiberoptic gastroscope in the area in 1972.

His life outside of the surgical profession reflected a passion for travel, music, and deep-sea diving. He was a member of the South Pacific Undersea Medical Society and served as a dive doctor.
Upon his death in March of 2020, he bequeathed a generous gift to Tulane University to establish the Dr. Karl Ruppert Endowed Fund for general support of the university.
