I am so excited for all the incredible things happening this season at TPAC. It’s going to be packed with epic shows and concerts, world premieres, Broadway legends and more! One subtle change you will notice is what you’re holding in your hands right now. The Tulsa Performing Arts Center Trust is now the publisher of Intermission. It will contain all the great content as in years past but in a more manageable size. I’m also pleased that each show presented in our various theatres will now have its own cover.

We are proud to host and collaborate with our resident companies that continue to produce world-class offerings. Our partners are Celebrity Attractions, Tulsa Ballet, Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, Tulsa Opera, Tulsa Town Hall, Theatre Tulsa, American Theatre Company, World Stage Theatre Company, Theatre North and Chamber Music Tulsa. With these groups, along with shows presented and produced by the PAC Trust, we will host over 500 events during the 22/23 season. Driving Miss Daisy

Daisy Wertham, a stubborn, elderly Southern widow, crashes her car, forcing her son to take on a chauffeur. He employs Hoke Coleburn, a Black man, much to her chagrin. Daisy’s prejudices are broken down and, against all odds, he becomes her best friend.

MAGNIFICENT: Shostakovich Symphony No. 5

Featuring pianist Natasha Paremski, performing the Piano No. 2 by Rachmaninoff, and guest conductor Marcelo Lehninger who will lead the orchestra in a program that includes the titular symphony as well as the Prelude to Act III of Richard Wagner’s opera “Lohengrin.”

Based on the classic novel, which inspired the 1955 movie starring Fred Astaire, Daddy Long Legs is a beloved tale in the spirit of Jane Austen, The Brontë Sisters and “Downton Abbey.” Daddy Long Legs features music and lyrics by Tony awardnominated composer/lyricist, Paul Gordon (Jane Eyre), and Tony-winning librettist/ director, John Caird (Les Misérables), and is a “rags-to-riches” tale of newfound love.

Cybersecurity has become a huge concern for just about anyone who does anything online. Whole cities have been brought to the breaking point as hackers and fraudsters have honed their skills and gone after ever-bigger targets. Luckily, we have incredible minds racing to stay one step ahead of cyber criminals.

Theresa Payton grew up in a military family, a family that mostly preferred to work straight out of high school instead of going to college. When she was offered an academic scholarship, Payton decided to go a different route than most of her family. When starting college, her lone goal was to get as many degrees as possible in order to give herself the best shot at quality employment. Passion for a specific career was not even a part of the equation, just being employed.

While studying, that all changed and huge opportunities found Payton. As she says, cyber security is “a career that found [her].” She was offered a scholarship for a new master of science and management information systems program at the University of Virginia. She decided to go.

Soon after graduating, Payton’s husband, who was in the Navy, was given orders to move to Florida. Once there, she started looking for work. She interviewed at Barnett Bank, now a part of Bank of America. The bank was so blown away by her that they created an entirely new department and position just for her in expert systems, data analytics and artificial intelligence.

By being on the cutting edge of technology, particularly in the banking industry, Payton soon realized she was also dealing with the cutting edge of fraud and other cybercrimes. Her love for technology and creating a better world for the user had to include making technology safe for the user.

Her work in her field was so incredible, she was tapped by George W. Bush to be his Chief Information Officer for the last two years of his second term. In fact, she was so good at her job of looking for crime, it took the staff at the White House quite a while to convince her they were real and giving her a real opportunity.

Cybercrime fighter, entrepreneur, inventor and author

Her time in the White House included the introduction of the first smart phone, which created an entirely new challenge. But she was determined to leave the nation’s technology security better than she found it and ensure it would withstand the test of time. Her mantra while there was “Never here,” meaning that although the best and brightest can be hacked, it could not happen to the White House. While she was there, she was true to her mantra.

Payton now heads her own wildly successful cybersecurity company, Fortalice Solutions. She has some incredible stories, full of espionage and deception that sound like they come straight out of a spy novel. While on the Chapman stage, she will be sharing with the crowd her predictions on where cyber security is headed and how we can continually stay ahead of the curve while also having a backup plan. From the White House to Snoop Dogg’s house, Payton will share it all!

THEATRE TULSA!

The Tulsa Little Theatre was created in 1922 after it was decided that the oil capital of the world deserved the same incredible theatre programs found on the east coast. The company opened its first performance, a series of one act plays, in what is now Tulsa Theatre.

Tulsa Little Theatre was incredibly well received but unable to find a long-term venue and forced to perform in a tent. In 1932, the company completed work on their very own venue, the Tulsa Little Theatre on Delaware Street. In 1975, the name was changed to Theatre Tulsa, and once the Tulsa Performing Arts Center was completed in downtown Tulsa in 1977, the group left the Tulsa Little Theatre and came here to their current home.

Theatre Tulsa was, for quite some time, the largest nonprofessional theatre company in the nation and was packing the house

with around 40,000 people each year. The company was the first community theatre to produce Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, the first to win the Oklahoma Community Theatre Associations Festival, and where Brownstone premiered before going to Broadway.

This year, for Theatre Tulsa’s 100th season, there are big plans that include exciting new musicals, classic favorites, and incredible plays. Making strides in ensuring the theatre is a welcoming home to everyone, they’ve even begun presenting sensory-friendly shows for those with specific sensory needs as well as other inviting initiatives.
