SOCIAL CENTER

University Campus & Social Center SINOP

The city of Sinop has been home to various civilizations throughout the history and has been a multicultural city, one of the most important cities of some civilizations during the transition periods. It is a unique city with its nature, history and culture. Sinop Castle, Hamsilos National Park, TatlÄąca Waterfalls, InaltÄą Cave and Canyon, these are some of the important examples that can serve as a reference for natural, historical and cultural foci. Unfortunately, the social spheres that will bring these potentials to the next level and offer different observation possibilities to people are inadequate. The new university campus remains a big potential in terms of the changing this identity of the city, the creation of new targets and the creation of a new vision in line with these targets. In this respect, in this project, a sustainable new generation campus design that will benefit the campus users, the city and the natives, take their standards to the next level, respond to all kinds of activities of the users (social, academic, cultural, vital) is aimed.

CAMPUS ZONES

In order to determine how the transportation will be provided in the area, it is planned to take the main entrance from the Samsun-Sinop connection road where there is a high density with the data collected from the previous transport analyzes. A ring passage which is circulating around the campus and connected to the North Campus, has been considered. On the basis of the slope, the main pedesterian road designed as a ‘bakcbone’ , which is in contact with the North Campus and dominates the entire area where users can use it more comfortably. In the zoning of masterplan, the units (health, etc.) which are more connected to the public, is located the north side where is more easily accessible, and more private and not public use buildings designed near by the center of campus. The area where the old oak texture was protected was expanded and a recreation area was left and the expansion zones were determined.A social axis which is attached to the backbone and then meets the green recreation area is considered.

+functions

The design phase was first started by examining the location of the social center in the masterplan and the surrounding datas. The ‘campus backbone’, which passes through the area is considered as an important input to the design. The topography conditions of the area were examined as another factor that would affect the design. It is designed to make a hidden square in the central courtyard, which is surrounded by trees, by entering from certain points and containing different activities.

+events

A multi-layered structure was designed using topography to provide more access to the ‘vistas’. The division of the area by the spine through the area is considered to be an input in the design. This distinction is also taken as the main circulation center of the users. It is envisaged to design a social backbone ’ which interrupts the campus backbone, forming different interaction points and areas. The platforms and terraces created by taking advantage of the view of the floors and the difference of the views in the inner courtyard, which is formed by the formation of the masses, provide the users with various experiences

CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM Date : Type : Program : Partners : Location :

Summer 2018 Sudent Project Museum, Library, Tourist Info, Workshops Individual Tophane | Istanbul

Contemporary Art Museum TOPHANE

The first settlements in Tophane is began from b.c.e. The first settlement was in the Roman period. During the Roman period, settlements started in Tophane with the expansion of the borders. In the Byzantine period, we see that various structures dating back to the day are made. With the conquest of Istanbul by the Ottoman Empire, this area became a trade center between Ottoman and Europe and became a multicultural society as the Muslim community started to settle. We see that inns, bazaars and glass are built in this period.

+history +transformation +art

Today, with the change of usage requests, it has been transformed into a great transformation and has made great progress in becoming a culture and arts center. Cultural activities in Tophane are constantly increasing. There are various galleries and workshops as a boutique design. In this project, it is aimed to exhibit works that produced in this kind of design and art ateliers and at the same time to give educations in studios that teached how they can be produced or designed.

+ schools & galleries

+ main roads

+ important points

The fact that there are many historical cultural and educational structures close to the project area has been effective in deciding the design. The changing Tophane conditions have made this area a tourist attraction and it was desired to participate in the design. In this respect, the main tourist and pedestrian routes were examined. Due to the fact that the area is at the intersection of the focal points and easily accessible, a public building is planned. Moreover, the present is the main subject of the design.

DESIGN PROCESS

1| Remove unqualified buildings

2| Follow siteand old wall mark

3| Connect two streets

4| Old wall used in facade with metaphoric way

OLD WALL CONCEPT

USE SCHEME

5| Functional units added to ‘wall’

The old wall marks that crossed the site became the main concept element of the design. Old wall was used as a metaphor and integrated into the design. Walls are built for the protection of people in the ages, while there is a massive mass of influences on the outside, different lives are inside. This effect is achieved through a massive facade on the surface of the building. At the same time, the semi-translucent mass that rises and falls somewhere in the style that symbolizes the surprise meeting with the sky is positioned on the ‘old wall’ mass. After Tophane was selected as a tourism and culture-arts center together with Karaköy district, it gradually entered into a transformation process. When we look at the current use cases, there is diversity. With increasing density of people, Tophane cannot respond adequately with existing spaces. In this respect, it has been decided to make a mixed-functional building that contains various functions.

6| Concept continued with other buildings and site designing

Today Acibadem neighborhood is used for residential purpose as we can see same thing in the past. A planned settlement is noticeable in the majority of the townships. Today, it is faced with increasing intensity when it is compared to past.

Semi Busy Road

While the area was formerly used as a dwelling of Yıldız Technical University, it is in ruins today and this project aims to use this area as a dwelling again in a sustainable way . One side of the area is located on Acıbadem Street where commercial use and traffic density is high and the other side is Faikbey Mescidi Caddesi which is a less frequent traffic density and the other side is facing the neighboring areas. There is also a historic building in the area. In the surrounding areas, with building settlements ensue courtyards and recreation green areas, in the design these areas are foreseen to integrate with the green areas in the area. Acıbadem Street is a commercial axis and this phenomenon is continued with design. As an Acıbadem characteristic, courtyard design is foreseen in design decisions.

CULTURAL TRANSPORTATION Date : Type : Program : Partners : Location :

Autumn 2016 Sudent Project Shop , Bicycle Museum, Library, Bicycle Repair Individual Kartal | Istanbul

CULTURAL TRANSPORTATION KARTAL

TRANSPORTATION OF KARTAL Beginning of this project we tried to find a problem which effects to all of Kartal district. While we were researching Kartal, I realized Kartal tranportation problem because when we wanted to go to Kartal transportation became very huge problem for us. Most used tranportation way in kartal; 1) Metro 2) Coast Road *But there is no transportation way which brings two main roads.

HOW CAN I FIX THIS PROBLEM? *In Kartal area there are three bike stop;which names are Kartal İdo,Kartal Sahil and Dragos Sosyal Tesisleri.

In the coast site of Kartal there is a bicycle road, it starts from Kartal and ends in Kadıköy. Also in Büyükada there are two bicycle roads which encircling above Büyükada. With this information I think that design new bicycle roads inside of Kartal and make bicycle road center in Kartal district. It will be like ‘isbike’ sytem and will have some bike stops on the roads. You can rent a bike from one stop and drop it in different stop which close to your destination. Also it provides people more healthy life with sport and without traffic.

BICYCLE ROAD CENTERS RELATIONSHIP

LOCATION OF BICYCLE ROADS

BEGINNING POINT OF PLATFORM

CONCEPTUAL LINE

The purpose of the project is to create an alternative transportation in the Kartal neighborhood. For this purpose, E-5 and the coastal roads, which are two routes that people use the most in density, were identified. At the same time, the metro route made on the E-5 road was evaluated and the stations were determined. After these analyzes were made, two routes at the intersection of these points were identified and due to some reasons (the slope etc.) it was decided that the most suitable one is InonuStreet. Thus, attempts were made to eliminate the disconnection between E-5 and the coastal road and an alternative way of transport was created for the people.

INONU STREET SECTION Firstly I draw a section of InĂśnĂź Street to understand topography to design.Best suitable slope for ride bicylce is %5 but on the street some areas has more inclined. *If slope not suitable, we can make our slope for bicycle road.So I design bicyle platform on the street for comfortable road for bicycler.

BICYCLE MUSEUM

CULTURAL BIKE STOPS Some main points of the road there will be bike stop point. If it would be designed just parking area it causes blank places but it can be designed with another functions like mini cultural centers.Because in Kartal, number of cultural center is too low.People who live in Kartal cannot find something to improve themselves in their free time. It helps people while they are going somewhere ,they can also join some exhibitions,be informed about events so it will be a huge chance to people who want to improve themselves.

MUSEUM DESIGN PROCESS

BICYCLE SHOP

BICYCLE REPAIR

In bicycle road there are some bicycle stops to provide distribution into city. One of these stop is designed as a center of bicycle road and also think that building like multi purpose use.

RECOMMENDED BICYCLE ROAD

1)When platform was designing, in one point platform get very high height. 2)After that site slope become suitable so bicycle road can go on floor. 3)Also this corner site is intersection of another busy road and bicycle road. So the center of bike stops was designed in that site with a ramp to bring together ramp and land BICYCLE EXHIBITION CENTER

NEWS “Istanbul, a city with one of the most intense in the world, was shaken by an earthquake measuring 9.1 magnitude, which lasted 1 minute 18 seconds, which was determined as the Marmara Sea at the center of the city at 03.38 last night. Earthquake felt from Ankara to Izmir. The metropolis was the collapse with the millions of people it had in the first few seconds. The city is not recognizable. All roads and networks have become unusable. The government decided that search and rescue operations against the risk of congestion caused by the inability to find flat ground for heavy dust cloud and landing in the use of propeller vehicles would take place towards the center of the outer walls of the city. It is still unclear when the aid will reach the inner parts of the city. The government stated that for the time being, first aid workers and food aid are being sent by parachute from the airway to the regions where this delay will take place, but later on, the aid to these regions may change due to delays.”

Accidents involving deep traumas in their socio-psychological states have moved according to their desirability when designing their own spaces. For this reason; the areas where the collective workshops are located at the node points, the production in the inner courts, the combination of the inside and the outside, the unconciliation, the demolition of the demolished city center by the structures are resolved and the social needs are met at this center are established with the interlocking and belonging instincts and the movement and contact surface are maximized .

SUSTAINABLE YOUTH CENTER IMAGINED AREA

Like every creature in the environment, nature evolves over time and is subject to change. People who are the users of this world also take nature for their own development and change in the time-lapse tunnel. This irreversible change in our lives also changes the social lives of young people, space events and enjoyment habits. Being aware of this change, it is desirable to integrate young population, social life, and architectural principles as a priority in the design that begins. In today’s architectural style, where design issues such as sustainability and eco-friendliness become popular, it has been aimed at designing spaces where dreams and thoughts of young future generations can be realized by going over a step of changing traditional design and building construction processes.

DESIGN DIAGRAMS

When we focused on the project area, it was realized that the coastal land was breathing in the position overlooking 3 different urban islands. The mass is leaned on the eastern side of the site toward the street because of intensive use of the neighbour work center and linear accessibility. The space in which the masses surrounding the territory embraces is thought of as a space where recreation and activity areas will be located. The project that meets the people on the shore of the city is merely a social space and proposes to be the focal point of the city.

Bakırköy is one of the important and historical districts outside the city walls of Istanbuvl and has been home to people from various nations. Thus, Bakırköy has become a multi-national structure and maintains this characteristic today. Bakırköy has a history; Münir Özkul, Ahmet Sezgin and Cem Karaca, and it is a commonality with art. But nowadays Bakırköy’s becoming a center of attraction has caused a lot of people flow in this area. The district is rapidly being promoted as a commercial center by being removed from being an art center by people who want to know the flow of people. In this project, it was aimed that Bakırköy became a center of art and culture again and that the sense of belonging of the city can be felt again.

*In the design, green areas were first identified and preserved. As a second step, a spine axis was designed to provide a pattern between Ebu Ziya Street and Mor Sumbul Street, and a stair was designed due to the difference of 3 meters between the two alterations. The structure is positioned on the side of Mor Sumbul Street in order to make the closer part of the area to Abu Ziya Street more transparent.
