The Mojácar Parador is half a century old. One of the symbols of the Mojácar coast celebrated its 50th anniversary surrounded by provincial dignitaries with an open day. Among those attending were the vice president of the Almeria Diputacion, Javier Aureliano Garcia, the mayor of Mojácar, Rosmari Cano and various other members of the Almeria provincial parliament. After blowing out the candles depicting the number 50, the dozens of guests enjoyed a reception in the gardens of the Parador, with its superb views of the beaches of Mojácar. An idyllic location.
During the ceremony, Rosmari Cano, recalled the notable figure of Jacinto Alarcon, the Mojácar mayor who succeeded in getting the Parador built on the coast of the municipality. She recalled "At the time the town of Mojácar was virtually derelict, with very small population. However, the arrival of the Parador de Turismo was the thrust needed for the town to take off as a tourist destination and become the point of reference in the province".

Mojácar consolidates its position as a cycling venue Mojácar consolidates its position as a professional cycling venue, as well as a tourist destination. New initiatives by Mojácar Town Council, Almeria airport, the Belgian company Kortweg, Velofutur and the Hotel Servigroup Marina Playa, reinforce and strengthen the privileged position that this town has achieved. To achieve this, the Mojácar Councillor for Tourism, Emmanuel Agüero has held an intensive meeting with the Vice President of the Provincial Diputación of Almería, Javier Aureliano, the Director of Almeria airport, Pablo Lazaro, representatives of cycling companies Jan Almeye and Jorge Quintana, as well as the director of the Hotel Marina Playa, Ricardo Escudero.
Among other things, it is confirmed that a new cycling race will be created, starting next year. Based in Mojácar, under the provisional name of Costa Almeria, it will start and finish in the town after passing through several villages in the Levante region of Almeria. More good news for Mojácar focuses on the renewal of the collaboration with the Belgian Cycling Federation for five more years and the continuity as its official headquarters and point of spring training. This means, not only the presence of the best cyclists on our roads, it is a magnet for all Belgian and Dutch cycling fans who see Mojácar as a sports and tourism destination.
Winners of the “Mojaquera Xtreme” On Sunday April 24, Pedro Romero of Extremadura and Maria Diaz from Cádiz have become the first leaders of the Spanish Open BTT Marathon (XCM) championship by winning the Sierra Cabrera Xtreme La Mojaquera race in Mojácar. This was the first test of this year’s calendar, which involved 500 mountain bikers from all over the country. Romero, champion for the third consecutive year and defending champion, covered the 68 kilome-
tre course in a time of 2 hours, 28 minutes and 37 seconds, 2 minutes and 15 seconds ahead of Cadiz’s Jose 'Quillo' Marquez reigning Spanish champion. Catalan rider Xavi Borras completed the podium in the men's category.
Prize Winning Council The Muprespa Mutual Society, in collaboration with the Social Services has awarded the Municipality of Mojácar with the "Incentive Bonus" for its "effective and verifiable contribution to reducing workplace accidents and conducting effective action in the prevention of accidents and occupational hazards". Mojácar Town Council has benefited this year by meeting all the requirements required by law and making the necessary investments to improve the working conditions of municipal workers and thereby recovering, thanks to this bonus system, 5% of the total paid to Social Security. The award was received by the Mayor of Mojácar, Rosmari Cano, who welcomed the cooperation between the Mojácar Council and Almeria Administrations which had resulted in less labour incidents. She also highlighted the importance, both for her and for the presiding government team, of always complying strictly with all safety standards in the interests of municipal workers.
