The works of the second phase of the Mojácar promenade have been completed and will open to the public on Wednesday 8th of June at 8.00 p.m. Mojácar Mayor, Rosmari Cano, would like to share this important moment with local residents, tourists and visitors who wish to join this first walk of the new stretch of promenade starting from the area called Cueva del Lobo, near the riding stables. She hopes that everyone will come along and join in with this very special and important event for the town that is already among the most beautiful in Spain. The efforts of the Mayor in meetings with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment and the Department of Sustainability of the Coast and the Sea have been most important in its implementation. Thanks to her efforts and a collaboration between the two institutions, the Mojácar Town Council has been successful in bringing this project to fruition.

This second phase along the coast with a length of 880 meters continues on from the first phase which is almost two kilometres long. The new stretch runs from Cueva del Lobo, where it joins the existing one, to the Red Cross building on Mojácar beach. With this work, continuity is given to the coastal pedestrian route, regular beach access and ordered parking in the public areas. The second phase of Mojácar promenade is made up of three distinct sections. The first 220 metres overlook the sea below, protected by a stainless steel handrail and end in a small square. The second 380 metres have has a cycle path, landscaping and benches. The third section, in front of the Pueblo Indalo, the cycle path

continues with the characteristics of the previous part with the addition of a marked parking area for 59 vehicles. There is access to the beach every 200 meters, as well as public lighting, a children's play area, an irrigation network and beach showers

Mojácar is firmly on the map of international kiteboarding, thanks to young mojaquera Oasïa Reding. Furthermore, her second place in the IV World Championship in this risky sport puts her on course to join the professional circuit.

Mojácar beaches have been awarded Marina de la Torre and Piedra Villazar have been awarded with the blue flag certification again. This certification criteria include standars for wáter quality, safety, environmental education and information.

Mojácar councillor for foreigners has busy first year Maria Luisa Pérez, the Councillor for Foreigners of Mojácar, has come to the end of her first year in that office This post was established due to the fact that a high percentage of Mojácar’s population come from other countries and, many of them do not have a level of Spanish that allows them to find their way around the different administrations or solve some of the official queries that may arise in everyday life. Maria Luisa, a veteran of Mojácar Council, assumed responsibility and accountability for the task in hand.

Artists in Valparaíso Mojácar

Mojácar’s Valparaiso Foundation reopened its doors to receive the first recipients of scholarships dedicated to promoting artistic creation, following a period of inactivity in this area of artistic patronage. The Foundation has been able to reintroduce the scholarships due to a renewed collaboration with Mojácar Town Council that aims to benefit the artists, the town and the Foundation itself.

Representing Spain and with Mojácar’s coat of arms of proudly on her board, Oasïa Reding achieved second place despite competing with the very best, struggling with grip and strength as only our little champion knows how. Although she just turned twelve years of age, she completed all the required professional manoeuvres. Kiteboarding is a water sport in which you glide through the sea with a board and a kite, "flying" between the waves. The heart stopping acrobatic exercises require an impeccable physical condition and a high level of acrobatic skill. Sponsored by Mojácar Town Council, Oasïa joyfully goes from strength to strength; Champion of Spain, fifth in Europe and now second in the world. Now she will enjoy a well-deserved holiday before training for the next competition. It will surely lead to more big news, so watch this space!
