The origin of the Chapí Theatre is in 1885, when a smaller theatre with this name was first built in Villena. The idea of creating a theatre dedicated to Ruperto Chapí was originated after some men from Villena went to Alicante to attend the premiere of "La Tempestad", zarzuela by Villena's famous musician Ruperto Chapí Lorente.
