Quantum English Welcome to Avalon: ‘The speaking school’ Why choose Avalon? For 20 years the answer has been ‘to speak English’. Our unique Quantum method means students have a greater opportunity to speak than more conventional teaching methods. Natural spoken English informs everything that we do from level-testing, teaching and monitoring student progress. When students arrive at Avalon their level is assessed on what they can say and how accurately and naturally they say it. Pronunciation, stress, accent and rhythm have as great an impact on a student’s fluency in English than simply new vocabulary and grammatical structures.

Quantum Books Quantum books reflect what students and teachers do in the classroom. They allow students to record pronunciation, new vocabulary and grammar. The questions allow students to practise their speaking and listening and teachers can correct and help their students become more fluent from their answers.
New Work and Revision Quantum classes are divided into two 50 minute sessions. The New Work class is where the teacher prepares students to practise target vocabulary and grammar for the first time. In the Revision class, students revise and expand upon target language with greater emphasis on fluency and communicative practice.
Progress Checks Quantum students are always encouraged to think of their English in terms of their practical speaking and listening skills. We have listening progress checks after every unit and speaking checks after every two units. Remember, you can combine your Quantum speaking classes 7 with skills and exam classes.

About three months ago I started looking for language school in Rio de Janeiro but I couldn’t find any as good as I wanted. After my wife suggested I go abroad to study, I found some good information on the internet about Avalon School. I decide to apply for a fourteen week course and I think it has been my best choice in English study. Now I can say that Avalon is the best English school in London because all the staff are very friendly and the school uses its own books. Exams Avalon provides exam preparation courses throughout the year. Our experienced teachers have a special interest in academic English and support each student’s individual needs throughout the course. Regular mock exams and progress reports are given to ensure a successful result. The exam courses run continuously so you can start on any Monday and study for as many weeks as you need. We generally recommend approximately 14 weeks to prepare for an exam but it depends on your level of English, which we assess before you join the course. For students who are not yet at the required level we recommend writing classes combined with Quantum English to help them proceed to the exam preparation course.
FCE - What is Cambridge First Certificate?
FCE is an exam for people who need to prove they can use everyday written and spoken English at an upper-intermediate, CEFR B2 level for work or study purposes. The FCE qualification: is officially recognised around the world by employers, universities and government departments gives you a pathway to higher qualifications gives you the confidence to use English in real situations
CAE - Why take Cambridge Advanced English?
CAE gives an in-depth assessment of your ability and fluency at level CEFR C1/C2 and shows you are well-placed in dealing with complicated academic and professional tasks in English. The course empowers you to: communicate effectively at managerial and professional level participate with confidence in workplace meetings or academic tutorials and seminars carry out complex and challenging research
TOEIC
An internationally recognised qualification that demonstrates a student’s proficiency in English, particularly used as an assessment of English in the workplace. This is the most widely used language test for professional English.
IELTS
Avalon offers preparation classes in IELTS, which is the most popular exam for students intending to study at graduate or postgraduate level or for professional purposes. It tests the student’s ability both to understand and to use complex academic language and is now used globally for entrance to higher education courses. Avalon is an approved test centre for the BULATS and TOEIC exams.

Business English Do you want to be able to communicate in the modern business world? Market Leader is a lively, interactive course perfect for those who want to improve their communication skills in realistic business situations. The class includes discussions, case studies and workshops using authentic material on a wide range of thought provoking topics.
The course is suitable for upper-intermediate and advanced levels. Suitable as both a long or short term course, Market Leader looks at a different topic each week. Students can choose how many weeks they want to study and start on any Monday.
The price of Business English is the same as a all our other courses and students can change to Business English during their course.
Language work includes: business idioms, conditionals, passives, multi-word verbs, linking expressions, prefixes, dependant prepositions, noun phrases, adverbs of degree, cohesion and many more. Topics include: cultural awareness, job satisfaction, project management, sustainable development, customer service, product branding, advertising, ethics and more.
Helps develop essential business skills such as negotiating, brainstorming, networking, interview techniques, presentations, meetings and writing formal correspondence.

e have a great social events calendar every month with a variety of things to choose from including day trips to famous British places such as Oxford, Cambridge and Stonehenge, parties, film nights, theatre trips, paintballing, indoor climbing and cycle rides around London. We can also organise trips to places outside England including Paris, Edinburgh and Amsterdam. It is a great way to make new friends and experience all that England has to offer- not just the tourist attractions (although we do visit these as well!)

Avalon recognises that finding accommodation in London can be difficult, especially if you can’t speak the language. Avalon has an accommodation officer who can arrange accommodation for students with host families or on a self-catering basis. Living with a host family is a great way to improve your English outside the classroom, learn about British culture and get to know the city.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are all teachers native English speakers?
Why are Afternoon classes cheaper than Anytime?
Yes, all Avalon teachers are native English speakers with first degrees and CELTA or DELTA teaching qualifications.
Anytime students have more flexibility to change their classes and are also entitled to more holiday, up to 6 weeks depending on the length of the course.
How many students are there in a class?
What will happen on my first day?
The maximum is 12 students in a speaking class and 15 in general skills, exam preparation and Business English classes.
How many lessons can I study? You can study for as many lessons as you choose, between 5 and 25 a week. If you require a Tier 4 visa you must study a minimum of 15 hours per week, Monday to Friday, before 6pm.
Our reception staff will provide information about the school. You will have a short speaking test and you may be given a written level test depending on your course. Please bring your passport or equivalent identification as we are required to take a copy when you arrive.You will be given a timetable with your classroom numbers and your Avalon Quantum course book.

Do I need a course book?
Will I get a certificate?
You will need to buy the course books. For speaking classes, you can buy a Quantum book from reception. For other classes your teacher will show you which book to buy.
Yes, all students who successfully complete their course can request a progress letter and a certificate.
Our school is located near several large book shops. Course books generally cost between ÂŁ12 and ÂŁ25 depending on your course.
Can I change my classes? Yes, we have a selection of classes at each hour and you may switch from speaking classes to exam preparation or Business English, depending on your level.
Can you arrange my accommodation? We can arrange a homestay (staying with a family in their home), a room in residence accommodation or student shared housing. All accommodation must be pre-paid and cancellation fees apply. Avalon has an Accommodation Officer who will arrange your booking and is available to talk to during your stay.
