Manteca: It’s about people & prosperity
Why move to Manteca?
After all, every community will proclaim they are the place to be.
There is little doubt Manteca is growing.
And it’s not just housing.
Retailers and restaurants are coming. New employment opportunities are opening up.
But there is more to a community than houses, retail, restaurants, and jobs.
Is it a place you feel safe?
Is it a place where you can grow?
And, perhaps most important of all, is it a place where you can - and want to - call home?
So how can the case be made for Manteca?
Start where many might consider the least improbable place - the Manteca Chamber of Commerce.
Say the words “Chamber of Commerce”, and most think business and nothing else.
The Manteca Chamber of Commerce does mean business.
But it isn’t what really drives the business organization.
It is the same thing that drove the predecessor to the Chamber of Commerce, the Manteca Board of Trade, to push for Manteca’s incorporation as a city 105 years ago.
The rationale was simple.
In order for people - from families to young adults to senior citizens - to thrive, they need to have a community where they can build their lives as well as enjoy life.
That means jobs. Police and fire protection, parks, medical care, and schools.
But more importantly, it needs a place one wants to be.
A place where you can be — and feel — that you are part of the community.
From day one, the Manteca Chamber of Commerce has made community Job One.
It is why the chamber has actively woven itself into the community.
It runs the gamut from organizing Manteca’s signature Christmas event for more than 50 years to honoring those who serve, fought for the rights of all, and who built this country 11 times a year with the placement of 2,400 flags along city streets.
The Manteca Chamber of Commerce’s annual Christmas parade brings Manteca’s diverse community together to celebrate the holidays.
GROW YOUR FUTURE MANTECA
It’s leadership and 300 plus members do more than just support business, network, and work to improve the overall economic lot of Manteca.
They proactively support a wide array of community efforts from helping feed struggling families at Thanksgiving, providing financial and manpower support to a long list of youth-based endeavors, to helping rally the community when a family or individual is in need.
The business of Manteca is the business of the Chamber of Commerce.
And that business includes community cohesiveness.
It reflects the community that Manteca is.
Among its 92,000 and growing population is a wide array of people from all walks of life and cultures.
It is reflective in strong organizations that celebrate diversity and reach out to the greater community to share their cultures and lend a helping hand to others.
Illustrative is the Manteca Interfaith Community Alliance whose faith-based membership includes St. Paul’s United Methodists Church, Manteca Islamic Center, Transformed Through HOPE Ministries, the Baha’i community, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Not only do they actively promote greater understanding, better communication, and build respect among faiths but they pull resources together to improve the community.
An example is a major undertaking that provides financial support to the Manteca Unified School District and can offer the resources - from hygiene items to shoes to new clothing to non-school provided school supplies so homeless youth can succeed in school.
And to be clear, many efforts to support those struggling the most to providing mentorship and activities to help youth grow have started with the community, not the government.
One of the largest and most successful free one-on-one tutoring programs for struggling studies as noted by state officials and Congress, is Give Every Child a Chance that assist more than 2,000 youth a year.
It was launched by people coming together in the community.
The same is true for efforts such as the Boys & Girls Club and the new teen center dubbed the Thomas Toy Community that opened in 2024 in a building that had major renovations complete with social media center, a youth cafe as a place to do homework or just chill, a massive “teen cave”, and a state-of-the-art social media production facility and other attractions.
It is also true for HOPE Ministries, a community-based non-profit established in 1991 with the express purpose of helping homeless families get back on their feet.
HOPE Family Shelters has a success rate pushing 60 percent when it comes to families being able to secure their own housing after staying for three months in one of two shelters.
Manteca is at the heart of 1.1 million people meaning cultural events, entertainment and more and within a 20 minute drive such as the Gallo Center for the Performing Arts in Modesto.
GROW YOUR FUTURE MANTECA
HOPE Shelter does so by working to address issues that contribute to them being homeless, even more that they have jobs. It ranges from money management and behavioral counseling to making smart decisions for their families.
Of the 260 plus among families they help each year, more than two thirds are children.
Manteca also has a higher concentration of traditional youth groups than one would expect in a community from multiple Little Leagues, soccer organizations, softball groups, and youth football teams to Scouting and FFA to a longrunning community service organization known as Manteca Youth Focus.
The city has stepped up as well with robust recreation offerings that are underlined by commitment to facilitate the needs to make community-based youth programs work such as Woodward Park where much of its 50 acres has become the go to place for Northern California soccer tournaments as well as weekly local play.
Then there are unique private sector endeavors such as the 500-room Great Wolf Resort indoor waterpark to special ized businesses such as a Lego store, you’d expect in the Bay Area and not the San Joaquin Valley.
Manteca is clearly invested in families, hence the city motto of being “The Fam ily City.”
But there is also a growing repertoire of activities for adults whether they are young, old, or in between.
A brew pub has opened downtown and a second is under construction near Big League Dreams catering to adult as well as youth tournament and league softball/ baseball play. The city-owned BLD com plex also includes an indoor soccer arena often booked with games until 11 p.m.
And to give you an idea of where Manteca is headed, downtown now has a dedicated full-time comedy club - The Deaf Puppy.
It’s a rarity for a city of 92,000 but it also underscores Manteca’s unique position of being in the middle of a tri angle bordered by Tracy, Modesto, and Stockton where within 15 miles there are almost 900,000 people.
That also means people in Manteca are also 15 miles away from venues for major musical and entertainment eventsthink concerts, Disney Ice, monster truck competitions, and Comic-Con gatherings to name a few.
The venues include the Stockton Arena, The Gallo Performing Arts Cen

The Manteca Big League Dreams sports complex includes six replica Major League Baseball fields where young and old can play ball.
GROW YOUR FUTURE MANTECA
You don’t need to drive for hours and spend a small fortune to enjoy professional sports.
Venues for minor league pro teams are 30 minutes or less away, including the waterfront Banner Island Ballpark that
MEGAWASH LAUNDRY PICKUP AND DELIVERY SERVICE
is home to the Stockton Ports, Stockton Arena where the NBA G League team for the Sacramento Kings play, and Modesto’s Thurman Field.
There are also the cultural offerings of the University of the Pacific that is also competitive in a variety of sports including basketball.
Both Modesto and Stockton have symphonies.
Stockton’s, which is among the oldest on the West Coast, performs at Delta College’s Atherton Auditorium.
In terms of the overall commitment of the community, voters approved bonds of $159 million in 2014 and $260 million in 2020.
Between the two when coupled with state commitments, Manteca Unified will end up making $550 million of improvements to existing campuses to modernize them and make them conducive to modern learning.
Perhaps the crowning achievement will be the “extreme” makeover of two of the high schools serving Manteca — the 58 year-old East Union campus and the 103 year-old Manteca campus.
When completed in 2028, the work will transform both into almost completely new campuses designed around educational programming for 2,200 students each with a distinctive college feel.
Manteca voters supported $419 million in bonds to modernize schools. Two examples are the new Manteca High main gym and swimming pool and the new two-story classroom building and media center now under construction at East Union High as show in the rendering.
EAT, DRINK & BE MERRY
Eat, drink & be merry in downtown Manteca. Don’t laugh. You can.
And you can laugh a lot.
Downtown Manteca is where you will find the Deaf Puppy Comedy Club.
It is the only full-time dedicated comedy club between Fresno and Sacramento.
They have been attracting solid crowds with half of the intimate 100-seat show room being from Manteca-Lathrop-Ripon and the others from Modesto, Stockton, Tracy and other nearby areas.
Unlike typical comedy clubs that don’t seat patrons until about a half hour prior to a show, guests are seated as they arrive.
That allows food and drink orders to be filled while creating a dinner show atmosphere.
It is a formula that has already helped build a steady flow of returning guests.
The Deaf Puppy also operates a bar and grill daily.
For more details go to www.deafpuppyclub. com
Down the street from the comedy club in the 200 block of North Main is the Brethren Brewing Company.
Food is available at Brethren Brewing but it is provided by food truck vendors.
That way, Brethren Brewing can concentrate on doing what it does best — crafting good beer.
The business model also allows a wide variety of food choices. And, if a food vendor happens to bomb with guests, then they just find a replacement vendor.
The tasting room has a clean modern industrial look with seating for 60.
The is also another 40 outside seats in a space protected from the sun.
The fact there are no TV screens to be found is by design.
The owners wanted it to be a place where friends can meet and families can enjoy themselves and have good conversations.
Brethren Brewing is also kid friendly. They offer craft soda as well as offering two waters “on tap” guests can access by themselves in the
tasting room including one that is distilled. They also offer candy pairings such as gummy bears that are suitable for their beers.

Manteca is rapidly emerging as an epicenter for staging events and weddings.
It’s because there’s plenty of places to meet in Manteca to be merry — and to do serious gatherings too.
There are halls designed for everything from weddings to celebrations to business gatherings that have an overall capacity of more than 3,500.
And there are more banquet and wedding facilities on the drawing board to take advantage of Manteca’s central location. There’s also a second brewery under construction.
The owners of the elegant Veranda Banquet & Events Center in downtown transformed the structure that once housed the El Rey Theatre that was dubbed the “Grand Dame” of Manteca when it opened in 1937.
The Veranda caters extensively to weddings, parties, banquets, as well as special events such as niche concerts that draw attendees from throughout Northern California.
It has three distinctive areas:
►The Ballroom with a grand staircase that can seat between 300 and 500 people.
►The Veranda with a capacity of 250.
►The Rooftop with a capacity of 300.
It also has a commercial kitchen specializing in authentic Indian food as well as Hispanic American, Italian, and Persian cuisines.
There is also a second Veranda hall on Moffat Boulevard with indoor seating for 200 as well as an outdoor garden area.
That’s just the start.
There’s the Emory Hall and Conference Center that can accommodate up to 200.
Chez Shari offers a second floor venue that works well for reunions, weddings, and more on the second floor of the clubhouse overlooking the Manteca golf course.
The 500-room Great Wolf Resort & Indoor Waterpark offers 5,652 square feet of adaptable meeting spaces and conference rooms as well as a 2,057-square-foot covered outdoor terrace.

STATE OF THE CITY MANTECA
Mayor Singh credits City’s success to total Team Manteca effort
Manteca Mayor Gary Singh made it clear.
There is no “I” in Team Manteca.
Singh doubled down on the moniker he helped coin before the pandemic as he delivered his State of the City message in March at Great Wolf Resort.
In doing so, he made it clear Manteca’s success isn’t because of him but everyone on the “team” from street crews and IT staff to senior management and each council member working together.
Singh made it a point to stress at least one behind-thescenes effort of his fellow elected council members that most of the public never sees.
That included:
*Dave Breitenbucher for his weekly hands-on effort to make the emergency homeless shelter works. He has played a key role in keeping efforts moving forward to improve homeless issues.
*Charlie Halford for his work to get a new police facility. Singh noted the existing facility was built in the 1970s when Manteca had 30,000 residents, a third of its current population.
*Jose Nuno for lending his extensive knowledge to help the city pursue new affordable housing projects.
*Mike Moroit in going door-to-door in downtown to secure support for an effort to take the central district to the next level.
Singh also repeatedly stressed how city staff — almost 500 fulltime employee equivalent strong — has been stepping up Manteca’s game.
“They are Team Manteca,” Singh said.
And while Singh rolled off a long list of city achievements from cleaning up the financial bookkeeping mess the current council inherited to establishing an in-house program to address a backlog of street pavement issues, there was one that he didn’t verbalize.
And that is a distinct change in culture at city hall.
But then again, the selection of the theme for the State of the City event hosted by the Manteca Chamber of Commerce said it all — “Level Up”, inspired by Ciara’s 2017 song of the same name.
Ciara wrote the song to celebrate empower-
ment and growth.
The city’s accomplishments — as well as major endeavors that have been put in motion that will come to fruition in the next few years — are the result of municipal staff being empowered.
Team Manteca has essentially almost completely dug out from under the collateral damage of burning through four city managers in 3 years and 3 months.
Singh will tell you it’s the result of dedicated employees being empowered to do their best, elected leaders that don’t allow differences to get in the way of “doing the right thing for the city”, and everyone working together as a team
Toss in the city’s growth and “Level Up” could be adopted as an official city song.
“Manteca remains on the move,” Singh said, “and we are leveling up.”

The primary mission of the Manteca Chamber of Commerce is to promote businesses in the community while also enriching the local economy and the quality of life for Manteca’s residents. The chamber provides support to businesses by offering resources and opportunities to network, helping businesses increase visibility and customer base. Our efforts aim to build a stronger, more prosperous economy in Manteca, making it an attractive place for both new businesses and residents.
To support local businesses, the chamber employs various strategies. One key approach is to list businesses on our website, providing online visibility.
Additionally, the chamber uses social media to promote businesses through videos and posts, highlighting the services and products available within the community.
Network events, such as mixers, provide opportunities for businesses to connect and collaborate. Members also benefit from being included in a business directory, which serves as a resource for referrals and helps facilitate connections among local businesses.
The chamber organizes events like street fairs, which provide opportunities for businesses to promote their products directly to residents and visitors. These events not only generate foot traffic but also create a lively, engaging atmosphere that draws people to Manteca, thus supporting the local economy.
The Manteca Chamber of Commerce also acts as a strong advocate for businesses at the governmental level. The chamber has a government relations committee that engages directly with local government officials, discussing policies and regulations that affect the business community. We actively communicate with government leaders, writing letters of support to advocate for the needs and interests of the local business community.

Valley Strong Credit Union
Our mission is to turn people’s financial possibilities into financial realities! We help people and communities prosper.
In 1938, a small group of dedicated and concerned teachers met for the purpose of forming a financial cooperative for school employees and their families. From these very humble beginnings, Valley Strong Credit Union was founded and formed.
The first Valley Strong “office” was actually a small room located in the library of a local high school. A single volunteer conducted all the operations, with transaction receipts kept in a shoe box. By the end of our first year, Valley Strong had 141 individuals banking with us and approximately $1,300 in assets.
Simply stated, a lot has changed over the last three-quarters of a century. However, our commitment to serving all of California remains the same. That’s why more than 360,000 individuals representing nearly $4 billion in assets choose to bank with us.
Our mission is to turn people’s financial possibilities into financial realities. We work every day to create a better tomorrow for our children and families. We are here to stay and grow together. And, here to discover the best financial possibilities for the best possible outcomes.

But the star attraction are the pumpkin blasters. It’s the only place on earth that you can find the answer to the question: How far can you lob a mini-pumpkin using a 6-foot barrel with sights? The answer is about 200 yards. Farmer Ron Dell’Osso has designed and had six “pumpkin blasters” welded from steel.. For more information on the Dell’Osso Farms Corn Maze go to www.pumpkinmaze.com.

GREAT WOLF RESORT MANTECA
The coolest place on a 105-degree day in the Northern San Joaquin Valley is the same place it will be the warmest on the drabbest day of lingering Tule fog that keeps the temperatures in the 40s round the clock.
The place is the Great Wolf Lodge Water Park in Manteca.
Describing Great Wolf a “just a water park” is about as accurate as describing the imposing El Capitan overlooking Yosemite Valley a “just a rock.”
Everything about the Great Wolf in Manteca from the 95,000-square-foot indoor waterpark — the second largest in the 20-location operation being the Anaheim Great Wolf with the largest in Mayland— is tailored so both parents and kids can enjoy their stay at true resort location.
Unlike with outdoor water park where you have to deal with wind, scorching sun, chilly weather, oppressive heat, or rain and have a limited mid-spring to late summer window to enjoy it’s always a pleasant 82 degrees with the water two degrees warmer. Extensive skylights keep the water park bright without having to worry about sun burn.
But if you want to work on your tan there is a massive outdoor guest pool complete with underwater shelves you can partially submerse yourself in water on a lounge.
If you opt to eschew the outdoor pool to cram in as much slide and water play time as possible, Great Wolf will more than accommodate you. They use a green/red light system that allows personnel to move guests quickly — and safely — onto the slides. Conveyors take the tubes to the start of the slides.
A visit to Great Wolf is designed as a staycation. Accessing the 13 indoor waterpark attractions that are open 365 days a year from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily comes with the booking of a room overnight that gives guests two full days of waterpark access.
If you opt to access every possible hour you can in the water park, there is a guest luggage storage area and locker rooms to change and shower so before and after your check in and out times you can splash around without packing up your vehicle.
And these are not just your average hotel rooms. For starters there are 500 rooms making the Great Wolf located along the 120 Bypass in Manteca and accessed by the Airport Way exit the largest hotel ever built in the Great Central Valley stretching from Bakersfield to Redding. Many of the rooms are theme suites with “Wolf Dens” and “Kids Cabins” for children with their own bunk beds and TVs. That way mom and dad can watch Netflix and even opt for in-room alcoholic beverages while the kids can watch cartoons and such in their own suite within a suite.
There are also eight dining options ranging from traditional sit down and casual dining to fast food as well as grab
and go options.
The 55,000-square-foot family entertainment center features eight attractions including a rope course, candy store, miniature golf, bowling, an arcade, and the second most popular Great Wolf attraction for kids — MagiQuest.
Great Wolf can teach Harry Potter a thing or two about magical fun thanks to MagiQuest.
Young and old can use ‘magic wands’ to embark on a magical quest throughout the lodge. You determine the play time that can range from 30 minutes to three hours. You can take a break and come back hours later or the next day. You can even return with your wand months later to finish games or purchase new ones.
The dining options and games area are open to the general public - meaning you do not need to be resort guests to access them.
Besides story time, kids that are hotel guests can access yoga classes, interactive science experiments, a high energy dance party, and a crafts area dubbed “Paw Projects” and more at no additional charge.

Manteca’s murals are designed to give visitors, newcomers and longtime residents alike an insight into the community’s culture, history, and economy.
The Manteca Mural Society has finished more than 30 murals in the downtown area. Among the murals are:
Veterans Mural Wall
The collection of five murals honoring the sacrifice and service of Americans in five wars — World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, and the Global War on Terror — is considered the latest mural effort west of the Mississippi River honoring those who served America
Sierra’s Crown
The first mural on your tour is part of the Veterans Plaza in front of the Legion Hall in the 200 block of East Yosemite Avenue. Ripon artist Dave Peterson’s original transparent watercolor of Half Dome is blended with images of Yosemite Valley and Merced River.
The front of the Legion Hall in the 200 block of East Yosemite is a compilation of details such as a rainbow arching above the granite cap, as well as, trout in the Merced River. The mural is particularly dramatic just after sunset where ground lighting creates the feel of nightfall coming to Yosemite Valley.
Crossroads 1918
The mural gracing the Main Street wall of Century Furniture located at Yosemite and Main is Manteca’s largest. It covers 4,000 square feet and was created by Dave Gordon.
“Crossroads” depicts what Manteca’s business district looked like in 1917. That is when the community was incorporated as a city. It offers the same vantage point you would see standing across the street next to the Bank of America parking lot, but 90 years later.
Cruising
Arguably the most popular of all murals, people who didn’t even grow up in Manteca and experience the cruise down Yosemite Avenue in the 1950s and 1960s find themselves reminiscing about bygone days. It is in the 100 block of North Main Street on the Accent Carpets building and is the one of the largest — and most realistic — of all the murals.
Pitching Pumpkins
Across Main Street from the “Cruising” creation resides the “Pitching Pump-
kins” mural.
It pays homage to Manteca’s most famous crops — pumpkins. Seventy percent of California’s jack-o’-lantern pumpkins are grown in the Manteca countryside.
Rotary Mural
From the “Pitching Pumpkins” mural you can head west through the parking lot. You will reach the “Rotary Mural” and a mini-plaza. Take a minute to rest on one of the benches and enjoy the water fountain and garden. That way you can appreciate the detail of artist Don Gray’s salute to the worldwide service efforts of Rotary International.
San Francisco
The next mural is reached by heading south on Maple Avenue. Stay on the east side of the street when you reach Yosemite Avenue. Look upward to the west and you’ll see the “San Francisco” mural.
Free-for-All
This is in the 100 block of South Maple Avenue and shows a Manteca barn scene with children playing.
Cow-munity Mural
The society’s 96 by 12 foot salute to Manteca’s dairy industry is on a wall in the 200 block of West Yosemite Avenue
facing the El Forastero Mexican restaurant parking lot.
Bounty of the Valley
The salute to the richness of Central Valley farmland can be found on the alley off the 100 block of Sycamore Avenue.
Manteca Snow
This whimsical mural on Manteca Avenue across from Library Park offers a vantage point out of a window looking into an orchard where children are frolicking in “Manteca snow” — gently falling almond blossoms.
The Family City
Located in the 200 block of North Main Street on the side of Lucy Moreno’s State Farm Insurance Agency, the mural is a salute to the different cultures and people that make up Manteca. The City of Manteca’s official motto is “The Family City.”
Mossdale Crossing
The mural depicts the actual final link of the Transcontinental Railroad being completed on Sept. 8, 1869 at nearby Mossdale Crossing on the San Joaquin River located on the side of The Spin Cycle Laundromat in the 100 block of East Yosemite Avenue.
Five Library Park murals
There are multiple murals at Library Park in addition to a Kids Mural. The murals are “Water Brings Abundance” focused on the region’s agriculture, “Pioneer Spirit” on the settling of the area known as Manteca, “Last at Bat” celebrating the community baseball field that once stood where Library Park is today, “Early Industry” saluting Spreckels Sugar as well as other endeavors, and “Beginnings” honoring the original habitants of the sandy plains of Manteca.
