Why the Diesel Engine Loses its Power During Acceleration When you are driving the car, if you found that you are losing power during acceleration, then either you don't have enough fuel in the car or don't have enough power. There are several reasons which are responsible for the loss of the diesel engine's power in acceleration. Here are the points which define all the causes of power loss during acceleration and way to overcome it.

Damaged fuel filter The fuel filter is the essential part of your car which is used for screening out the impurities from the diesel engine. As it is located between the fuel injectors and fuel pump and define as a barrier between the contaminants in the gasoline and engine of the car. If the fuel filter of your car is damaged, then the contaminated find their way to the engine. As a result, the engine eventually loses its power and overall functionality of the car will be impaired.

Low compression The combustion process of the engine has a cylinder compression which will maintain functions of the engine properly and provide adequate power to the car. When the compression of the combustion process is low, then the power of the engine will be lowered automatically. As a result, the diesel engine car is not functioning properly.

Malfunctioned oxygen sensor The amount of exhaust gases leaves the car engine are generally measured by the oxygen sensor which is located inside the exhaust system. Then the mechanic can use the electronic control module for figuring out the real-time of air to fuel ratio which is consequently exist's the car engine. As it can balance the engine timing as well as fuel injection system and help them to perform their job efficiently. In general, it can control the emission system very efficiently. If the oxygen sensor is malfunctioned, then it is unable to provide accurate information regarding the air to fuel ratio in the electronic control module.

Clogged air filter The internal combustion chamber of your car is used for mixing the diesel and air together to generate the power needed for running the car. But before the process, the air first enters the chamber and pass through the air filter to clean the impurities. If the air filter of your car is clogged, then these impurities enter into the engine and damage it immensely. It will negatively impact the functions of the car because the engine will not able to generate the power to run the car.

Worn out the exhaust system The exhaust pipe contains two filter one is the muffler and another one is the catalyst converter. The catalyst converter is responsible for cut down the pollution generated from the exhaust gases and the muffle used to decrease the amount of noise made by the exhaust pipe as well. If the exhaust pipe or any of its filter is damaged or worn out, then it will reduce the functionality of the engine. As a result, it will automatically reduce the power and make the car slower when you are trying to accelerate.

Break down camshaft sensor For gathering the information of your car related to the camshaft speed and send it to the electronic control module, the camshaft position sensor plays a vital role. Thus, it contains a computer in which the camshaft speed of the car is sent to the electronic control module which is mostly found in the modern cars. Then the computer of camshaft sensor manages the timing of fuel injection and ignition as per the information is given. But the break down of the camshaft sensor unable to send the information to the ECM and reduce the engine performance ultimately.

Failed fuel injector The fuel injector is located within the fuel system and used to spray fuel inside the engine. As it controls by the computer of the engine and sprays the fuel into the engine in a specific time, interval and pattern. If the fuel injection system of your car is damaged or failed, then the engine unable to generate enough power to run the car. As a result, you will face engine performance problems in your car as well as in the fuel system.

Conclusion The above points help you to determine the causes behind the power loss in the engine during acceleration. Whenever you find that the diesel engine of your car loses its power during acceleration, take it to your mechanic as soon as possible.
