Providing housing for a community which could function such that the people’s living and working space is together under one roof. The idea was to support local artists around the place .Art is encouraged and bought by people but how is it made and the lifestyle which evolves around an artist during the making of art is very important and it has to be known. The public (the buyers) could witness it here. This way the space is offering a common interaction between the public and artists. Site is located in Ashok Nagar,Bengaluru.

UP-CYCLING CENTER

The intent was to integrate sustainability, climatic study and vernacular study of the place to generate the design. The approach to the project was done by exploring waste materials to reuse. The orientation of the building was based on climatic response. Derivation of program and the space making was based on vernacular study of the place.

Ground Floor

Vernacular Selected site area is called as Pete area(market)and it was part of Bangalore fort before. The fort was designed in such way where fort was surrounded by markets(acts like transition space before entering fort). Similarly in the design the site periphery is a market which acts like a transition space between road and design space.

Response To Climate Wind flow is from south-west,also wind flows from east to west during summers(i.e for 3-4 months). Building is oriented in such way that 3 faces of the building faces road. The block is oriented to SE direction to avoid direct sunlight and provides shade to central open space.

Sustainability Here take on sustainability is, instead of using new or taking something from nature, using materials which are already getting wasted /disturbing nature -REUSING those materials makes my definition of sustainability. Hence through design trying to save up natural system and environment .

INTERIOR DESIGN

The intent was to create a quarantine home for a client, ‘Ratan Tata’ in an existing hotel - The grand Budapest hotel. The challenge was to plug-in the design by understanding the nature and interest of the client and study the existing hotel without destroying any elements of it.

Concept

The space making started with a working, living and an entertainment space. How these spaces changed to one during quarantine?Considering the above, the space and circulation of the space was divided into Public-Semi and Public-Private. The space within was divided with the temporary system so that the space has that ability to transform into various functions at the time of necessity.

Space located in Budapest Hotel
