Positive Rational Number Positive Rational Number We know that rational numbers are expressed in form of p/q where ‘p’ and ‘q’ are integers and q <> 0. Rational numbers can be all positive numbers and the negative numbers including zero. They all can be expressed on a number line. If we need to draw the rational numbers on a number line, we must remember that positive numbers exist in the right side of the number line and the negative numbers appear on the negative side of the number line. All rational numbers can be expressed on number line. We must remember that if the rational number is in the form of proper positive rational number, it always lies between ‘0’ and ‘1’. On other hand if the rational number is in the form of improper rational number, it is first converted into mixed fraction and then a point is located on the number line. If we find a negative rational number, then all the above rules apply but in the left side of zero. Know More About Geometric Probability Examples

Additive inverse of the given number is at equal distance from ‘0’ appearing in the opposite direction. Zero is the additive inverse of itself and it is neither positive nor negative. Every Rational number has its Additive inverse, which exist on the equal distance in the opposite direction. It means inverse of a positive rational number is a negative rational number and the additive inverse of a negative rational number is a positive rational number. Now we will study in detail about: "Additive Inverse of Rational Numbers": We know that natural numbers are the numbers beginning with 1. To this family, a new member,0, was added & thename changed to whole numbers. So all natural numbers form part of whole numbers but not vice versa. Then some negative numbers were introduced keeping in mind the opposite nature of a few concepts,e.g., for the height of a tree of length 5m, we say +5m; but what could we use for the depth of sea. Thus negative numbers came into being & all negative 7& positive numbers with 0 are called integers. Same problem was faced with fractions as the depth of sea could be a fraction also. Thus to resolve this problem, a new concept was introduced which includes all +ve & -ve fractions along with 0. Since all integers can be written in the form of fractions with denominator 1, so they are also the members of this group. Read More About Fourier Transform Sine

This group of numbers is given the name, rational numbers. rational numbers worksheet will help you to get confidence in solving rational number problems. We can define rational numbers as the numbers which are in the form p/q, where p & q are integers & q <> 0. A standard form for such numbers is also prescribed which says that a rational number is said to be in its standard form if q is a positive number & both, p & q have 1 as the GCF.
