Quadrants of a Graph Quadrants of a Graph In the real life mathematics helps in performing the various kinds of tasks. At the administration level mathematics helps in handling of data. In mathematics we study about the graphs, which is very basic concept in mathematics. Graph is a way to represent the relationships between various kinds of values like parameters, different kinds of quantities or any type of measurable variables that are related to the nature in the form of pictorial representation. It means to say that through the graph we can represent the several kinds of values in the form of picture that helps in better understanding of flow of data. In the real life, the basic reason behind of using a graph is that graph is an important tool that helps in representing the changes in one quantity which is based on the other quantity. This is the best way to represent the relationship between the two or more values in the real life. The basic reason behind the popularity of the graph is that they are able to represent the lots of summarized information into a single picture.

It has the wide area to use, like in the field of scientist which wants to represent the collected data into a pictorial form. In the graph data values are represented in the form of points. It means to say that the data values are represented between two standard lines. In the graph these lines are considered as x- axis and y – axis. The x – axis represent the horizontal lines and y – axis represents the vertical line of the graph. A Quadrants of a Graph is the most important concept of graph. In graph quadrant can be consider as a portion which are formed by the dividing the graph into four equal portions. It means to say that four equal areas which is made by dividing a plane by an x – axis and y – axis. This portion of the graph generally refers as quadrants of the graph. In the practical these portions are named by the number like first quadrant, second quadrant, third quadrant and fourth quadrant. The first portion of the graph has positive x and y coordinates in the graph. The second portion has positive y values and negative x values. In the same aspect the third quadrant has both negative x and negative y values. In the last fourth quadrants which has positive x values and negative y values. In the below we show you some of the properties that help in understanding the concept of quadrant: ( a) The first and fourth quadrants always having a positive x coordinates. ( b) The second and third quadrants always having a negative x coordinates. ( c) The first and second having a positive y coordinated. ( d) The third and fourth quadrants having a negative y coordinates.

Now we show you some of the example that using a concept of quadrants for representing the data values: Example: In which quadrants the following given coordinate points exists? A ( 3 , 2) Solution: In the above given coordinate points both values of x – axis and y – axis are positive then we can say that the coordinate value A (3 , 2) are put in the first quadrants. If in case the value of coordinate point given as A (-3 , 2) then there is the negative value of x coordinate and positive value of y axis exists. These coordinates’ points must be located in the second quadrants.
