What is a Quadrilateral What is a Quadrilateral In the mathematics we are going to discuss What is a Quadrilateral. Quadrilateral having two dimensional closed shape which is having four straight. Any four sided shape is a quadrilateral, but the sides have to be straight and it must be two dimensional. The word Quadrilateral is made up of two words which are quad and lateral. “Quad” - “four” and “lateral” - “of sides”. And the word Quadrilateral is originating from the two word quadri and latus. Here also meaning of both the word is different i.e. the meaning of quadri is a variant of four. And the meaning of latus is sides. The-interior angles of a simple quadrilateral making up to 360 degree of arc. In the quadrilateral it is the special case of n – gon interior angle where it gives the sum formula (n – 2) * 180 degree. And in case of crossed quadrilateral the interior angles are on either side of the crossing and make the angle up to 720 degree. And the quadrilateral is also having the geometric shape which is consists of four points.

It is sequentially joined by the straight line segments sides. In the quadrilateral when we use the word pentagon and polygon, the term in the quadrilateral has completely changed or replaced by the word tetragon. And the geometry shapes of a quadrilateral are invariably convex. It is starting with the most regular quadrilateral which is named as the square. We can also define its other shapes by its properties. In case of square we can say that a square is a quadrilateral which is having all sides equal and all angles also equal. And angle in a quadrilateral makes up to 360 degree. All the angles of a square are of 90 degree. And another type of quadrilateral which is equiangular quadrilateral having all the angle equal is a rectangle. In case of square, rectangle or rhombus, the opposite of that given quadrilateral are parallel. A quadrilateral which is having opposite side lines are parallel is known as a parallelogram. Out of these only one pair is required to be parallel which is known as trapezoid. And in the trapezoid the non – parallel sides are equal in length is called isosceles. A quadrilateral which is having two separate pairs of equal adjacent sides is known as kite. It is a example of Ortho-diagonal quadrilateral in which the quadrilateral with perpendicular diagonals. The four vertices of a quadrilateral can be Con-cyclic which is lie on the same circle. In such case the quadrilateral is known as simpler and cyclic. There are some special types of quadrilateral which are parallelogram, rectangle, rhombus, square, trapezoid (trapezium and kite. Out of that quadrilateral, kite having new type which has two pair of sides and these pair is made up of adjacent sides that are of same length.

Diagonal of the kite quadrilateral meet at a right angle, one diagonal bisect the other. Example: - Find the area (in cm2) of a quadrilateral whose diagonals intersect at right angles given that the lengths of its diagonals are 15 cm and 20 cm. Solution: - Area of a quadrilateral when diagonals intersect at right angles = ½ × Product of diagonals = ½ × 15 × 20 = 150 cm2.
