AB OUT: Show off your band's musicality with this shi mmering new work from Jason K. Ni tsch! Delicate textures and rich harmonies come together in an intricately crafted package that will exhibit your ensemble's restraint and balance. FROM THE COMPOSER: This piece was perhaps one of the most difficult that I had to write - not because of subject matter, but because i t just came very slowly. I find in my creative life that I tend to compose in spurts where I might write constantly for several weeks, and then not write anything for a month. This piece was one that I started and languished for a while in a little bit of a creative purgatory. I had a lot of the main ideas sketched out, but their larger connection eluded me for some time. In a way, the title i s very unironically taken from the process that went into creating this piece. One day that fog lifted and I had it all figured out. The section that begins at measure 12 should be approached with great care and treated as calmly and reserved as the maturity of the ensemble will allow. All harmonic dissonances should be emphasi zed and great care must be taken to avoid hesitation. The chord shift at measure 39 is my absolute favorite…and you have no idea how many chords once appeared there before I found just the right one. The great tendency will be to over-play the arrival moment at measure 44…resist that urge and instead find a place of tonal clari ty. DURATION: 5'10" Scan to let the composer
